Louw-Nida Keylinking to Volume 2 instead of Volume 1

Hello, all - I searched the forums and couldn't find anything on this and am hoping you can help.

It used to be (Logos 3, not sure about 4) that when I right-click on a Greek word in the NT and select Louw-Nida from my preferred Keylink options, that it would take me to the entry of the word in VOLUME 2 of Louw-Nida. I liked this, since it gives you the various "senses" that the word can have, and you can click on the appropriate entries as they are found in Volume 1.

However, some time in the last couple years, this all changed so that when I click LN from the preferred resources list, it takes me to the entry in Volume 1. While I can see some people might appreciate this, I don't, especially because there is no quick way to go back to the entry in Volume 2.

Can anyone help me "fix" my Logos 5 so that it key links to VOLUME 2 of LN?

Apologies: not know how to link to Volume 2 of LN.

An alternative is prioritizing "The Lexham Analytical Lexicon to the Greek New Testament" so right click using lemma opens resource, which has Louw-Nida links plus New Testament and Apostolic Father reference links:

I think that seeing the choices of meaning that were relevant for the editors is a desirable thing. Using the Lexham Greek Analytical Lexicon as an index to Louw Nida seems like a nifty workaround (for those who own it). However, I found that the editorial choices may not be 100% the same:

 

Basically, when we come from LN-tagged NT, LN is informed what choice the translators took/makes sense in this context and goes directly there. That's not too bad. However, digging deeper one might want to look at the various meanings existing in LN (in the other thread user Beloved pointed out that we know theyre there due tp the small characters a, b, c following the Greek lemma in Vol 1 in such cases). So all that was needed was a link from Vol 1 to Vol 2 (not automatically provided by Logos).

This is a showcase for advanced prioritization: if we query LN not with a LN range but with a Greek lemma (such as from a non-LN-tagged bible, e.g. a Septuagint), it will go to Vol 2 - this holds true also from LN itself:

 

I made this my very first entry for Greek Lexicons - voila, when I double-click the Greek lemma in Vol 1, this takes me to the headword in Vol 2 where I can see the choices and their domains.

Thanks for the shoutout! Mick your arguments and assertions are flawless except one, Logos does provide easy access to vol 2 and they are of two kinds

1.) If you right click on your word and select the lemma with Louw-Nida  anywhere prioritized within the top 5 it will take you to vol 1, if you then right click on the superscript letter that will take you to vol 2.

2.)If you give Louw-Nida first prioritization (do not use advanced prioritization as this will exclude it from the priority list) you may now select lemma as before and this will take you to vol 1 again, but now when you double click (that's a left click to be clear) on your lemma within Louw-Nida it will take you to vol 2.

Also, if I may point out, it is not necessary to prioritize The Lexham Analytical Greek Lexicon or the Analytical Lexicon of the Greek NT for works such as the Texts of the Earliest NT Greek MSS as they will default to these resources. Finally, I may be wrong, but I don't see the need for a work around. With which type of resources do you find yourself using this tact?

well, on my system it works like this:

• LN needs to be in top five prio. To get from Vol 1 to Vol 2 means:
• right click on the superscript letter or rather on the lemma (if I manage to hit the superscript char, it will try to open English dictionaries like Merriam Webster; if your systems works as mine, you probably missed the superscript by a pixel or so), which gives me the list of highest prioritized Greek lexicons that cover the lemma as entry,
• find Louw-Nida (I now changed the title since otherwise I need to scroll right in the box to see the differentiation "based on semantic domains"),
• left click.

This is considerably more effort and more error-prone than simply double click.

Yes, that's right - but there are several reasons not to give LN first prio. Some may insist they want a "real" i.e. classically organized lexicon with strong definitions and info first (BDAG if one can afford it, LSJ [ditto, I don't have either] or M-M or TDNT ["Big Kittel"]). I personally think TLNT (Spicq) is great - even more so since this resource links to all relevant classic lexicon - but since it covers only a select range of words, I need to prioritize it before full lexica like M-M or TDNT. I also tend to change prioritization sometimes.

So if LN is not first prio, double-click will lead me to e.g. TDNT - if it is, it will lead me to LN Vol 2. However, advanced priorization means double click on lemma from inside LN will always lead me to LN Vol 2, which is what I want from here.

Mick, 

Your criticisms have I think clarified the subject for everyone so they can choose which system best suits their needs.

As for us, I will just say we can just agree to disagree on this one. Great post!
