BUG: Remove multiple notes icons at chapter headings

I don't know if this was changed recently but I have noticed it more as of late:

I don't believe this has changed recently but it does vary depending on the resources you are looking at (it will be to do with how the resources have been tagged)

In the example below - showing Psalm 2 the WBC volume shows what you are seeing but the Baker one does not

I don't know wow feasible it would be to change this - or whether changing it might break something else.

MJ, the notes you display in your example seem to be text-based, not reference-based. If so, that would explain why they would not show up at the top. Moreover, you have no icons there, only highlights. Pretty cool set you have there though. I like the labels.

For clarification: Notes by "selection" appear at the beginning of the selection (word or phrase). Notes by "reference" appear at the beginning of the reference (verse or chapter). Since title headings are tied to the chapter, any note indicators tied to either the first verse (or the entire chapter) will appear at the very beginning.

It appears that you have the note file turned off in Psalm 2...Otherwise there should be a red circle note indicator at verse 4....

My understanding: note indicators will move up a level when needed. For example: if a note is attached to a verse but there is no note for that verse in the commentary, the indicator will go to the chapter heading. Likewise, it could go to the beggining of the biblical book as well (under similar circumstances).

Can you verify Francis that there are actually duplicate note indicators? I haven't seen that.

I wonder if it is something specific to the notes you have - number of notes, combination etc that I don't see when I try a simple test. While I see this sort of thing in some commentaries (as above) I don't remember seeing it in Bibles.

How feasible would it be to share the notesfile you are using (or section of it) in a Faithlife group so that we can download it and see if we get the same results?

Did you get the "27th" from the same place as Graham, or did you use the updated column in the library? If the later, that just tells you when the resource was updated on that computer.

I removed the resource files: nasb95.logos4, nasbnt.lbsrvi, nasbot.lbsrvi. Then of course the resource was no longer found in Logos. Then I ran resource update which downloaded it afresh. But the problem remains.

I think this is understandable - as it would be linked to notes which have been created which would be maintained through this process.

Do you know where the various notes are stored? Are they all in a single notesfile associated with NASB or have you created notes on this passage in a range of versified resources? As above I am trying to understand whether there is a particular combination of things which is causing this

I am not sure I understand your reasoning above; perhaps you can clarify.

In answer to your question regarding association of the note file with NASB, the latter is my preferred Bible. Thus many notes have been created from it, but I don't see why that should be a problem when the note is based on a reference and not text. As an experiment, I changed my default Bible to see whether it would affect that behaviour but the deal was the same. NASB does have the notes at the heading, ESV and NIV do not.

I did make an interesting discovery however: the NASB is not the only Bible affected: KJV, ASV, AV, Scrivener's TR (1881), Byz textform 2005 and NIRV do the same while all the other (many) versions I have do not. I cannot identify any pattern. Of course, I did acquire my resources from various packages over time (some of which from Thomas Nelson) and I have migrated from 2.2 to 3 to 4 to now Logos 5. I don't know if differences in formatting in previous versions could be part of the story.

Another experiment seems to show that note age is a factor. I created a new note with a distinctive icon to see if it would show in the heading. I synced, closed, reopened Logos and checked it and it did NOT appear in the heading...

Sorry I wasn't very clear.

What I was trying to say was that as notes are linked to references in the text the act of removing / restoring the resource wouldn't actually affect the notes themselves. Thus, once the resource was restored the notes would simply appear again.

Agreed - and it doesn't need to be the "default Bible" to see this.

And I have just been able to reproduce this effect but only when creating notes in a particular way.

If I create a note by reference from within NASB I just get the single icon associated with the verse

If I create a note by reference from within a commentary (I was using NICNT Revelation) then I get the single icon associated with the verse as well as an icon being added to the set before "Chapter 13" in your original example.

You may be up to something here: the phenomenon may indeed be linked from whether the note was created from the corresponding verse reference in a versified resource such as a commentary (as opposed to directly from a Bible). If so, it is still a bug and inconsistent since it appears in some Bibles but not others.
