Clipping vs. Notes

OK, so I've been happily adding notes left and right to various passages when I finally read the wiki page on clipping and that it is used similarly to notes but can be exported. One thing that I like to take a note and have the little sticky right next to the verse for whenever I come back to a particular passage. HOWEVER, what I am currently needing to do is a verse by verse study of a chapter which makes it very convenient to just clip each verse and then add notes TO that verse. Unfortunately, I then lose the nice sticky attached to the verse doing it this way.

I'm sure I'm making it way more complicated than it needs to be but I wanted to find out from anyone how they use both: 1. the regular notes feature and 2. Clippings and the notes in clippings.

Thoughts?

I like the original source "tagged". So I use notes. However, I tend to treat it like a clipping.

First, let me point out that I make most notes from my iPad. My technique is to highlight close to a full paragraph of material to copy to the clipboard. I want the context to be preserved in the note. I may, or may not, choose to highlight this large swath. Then I select a relatively small portion of the text which will comprise the note title. If I am lucky I won't need to edit the title after the note is created. With the note pop-up window visible, I paste the copied text into the note and then add my own comments. Before I save, I verify that the highlight type is appropriate and that the target note file is correct.

My result is a note file similar to a clipping since it can be read without referring to the original resource. I have considered separating the pure highlighting from the actual notes by using a separate notes file, but so far, I just keep them together.

Following the advice of others on this forum, I create one notes file per resource unless I have a particular project in mind. Fortunately, Logos has made it really easy to create notes files on the iPad. Right now I am doing research to teach a N.T. overview class next year. All those notes from various resources are being dumped into a single file.

You can do both, of course. but I think notes are better for verse by verse study whilst I use clippings for topics & message preparation.
