Can someone please help me gain a better understanding of the practical differences (the effects) of using the topic and tag fields when creating a personal book for sermons? Does it matter, for example, whether I enter a word/phrase as (1) a topic, (2) a tag, or (3) both? From what I can tell, an entry in either field results in an index being created when the personal book is compiled, and either field can be searched for future reference (ie, searching specifically through topics or specifically through tags). The only information I have found so far regarding the advantages of one over the other came from this link, https://wiki.logos.com/Sermon_and_Illustration_Support, which says, "The compiler will also automatically generate headwords for the topics, which will be used by the Topics section (for Sermons) and Illustrations section (for Illustrations) of the Passage Guide." If I am understanding this correctly, then there is at least one distinct advantage of placing something in the topic field instead of the tag field. Is there any corresponding distinct advantage to using the tag field? Perhaps those of you with more experience can help me better differentiate the effects of using these two fields.
On a somewhat related note, if you use both the topic and tag fields extensively, how do you remain consistent in what words/phrases you use over time as the volume of sermons increases? Put another way, if I start using both fields, how do I remember that Word/Phrase X should only be used as a tag but that Word/Phrase Y should only be used as a topic? If you have a particular system, please describe it!
I apologize in advance if there is clear documentation somewhere that I overlooked regaring my questions. I tried doing my homework prior to posting, but all I found was the single link cited above. Thanks in advance for the help and clarification!
