Suggestion: Multiple License Holding

Scenario 1: someone buys a number of books which are latered offered in a bundle without dynamic pricing. He would like to buy the bundle, even though there's no dynamic pricing.

Scenario 2: someone buys two large packages/bundles with overlapping titles.

These scenarios (which are not hypothetical) got me thinking: can Logos recognise that in these situations, the customer really holds two (or more) licenses of the overlapping titles? This is analagous to someone holding multiple licenses of a software application, or multiple copies of a physical book. With this system, customers can take comfort that they are able to dispose of the extra titles, without losing them to the aether.

Normally a call to Customer Service/sales will take care of the "dynamic pricing". In my experience Logos has always done this. This may not happen all the time on the web because of tagging or some other technical details I cannot answer to.

But Logos has a longstanding policy that you do not pay twice for the same resource.

Scenario 2: someone buys two large packages/bundles with overlapping titles

Dynamic pricing, afaik, is baked into bundles so this becomes a non issue.

If you've bought a few books twice per scenario 1, give CS a call and ask if they can remedy that.

With the glaring exception of academic pricing. If a product has academic pricing that is cheaper than the dynamic price on the bundle/base package/whatever then you pay for the same titles twice. Logos seems reluctant to fix this.

Since resources were bought over time, I don't think this could be fixed by CS. Which is fine, but couldn't someone have two titles?

Hmm. AFAIK you only hold one license for a title. I'm not sure about how all this works on the backend though.

With academic pricing, I assume that the academic license supersedes the original one. Which may be the point (likely not logos doing, probably the publisher) of not allowing dynamic + academic - this way your normal license is superseded by a more restrictive and thus cheaper one. This is mostly a wild guess. So don't take it to be gospel truth.

I think this is a case of Logos not letting you know what it thinks you own, what rights you actually do own (vs Logos being nice), and whether Logos even knows. I'd bet they don't, absent a detailed review. And all contingent on Bob's continuing health.

For me, I assume there must be a number of resources and datasets that evolved out of my Libronix mixed purchasing (this CD vs that CD), which sort of morphed into L4 > L5. Whether I 'own' the rights? I doubt it. Or rights to upgrade pieces that Logos hasn't delivered? I suspect the HTML pages are long gone.

This probably sounds negative, but Logos is superior in this department to another Bible software company (not A-Company). When a platform became unsupported, all of its platform specific books died (rights) with it. Shrug of the shoulders from the Bible company .... see ya.

I respect your wisdom and tact for not saying this was Zondervan, someone less mature may have foolishly done so.

I do not think Accordance or Logo are going anywhere anytime soon... If something ever did happen to Accordance I could happily use my resources in my 9.0 emulator sheeepshaver... And in all i have been very fortunate I did own QuickVerse and even back in the early 90s BRS word search. They still had my records of what i owned when WORDSEARCH released their mac version... as well as all the info to what package I owned in QV when they bought it. The only real orphan i had in Bible software was thompson chain reference HyperBible. even my old MacBible became Accordance.

EDIT:PS: There was my New Oxford Annotated Bible Reference Library CDROM, that got left behind but still use that in sheepshaver too.... Since the Folio products are still sold I did not think of them as officially abandoned, and Accordance even allowed courtesy cross grading for them (only 30% off but still nice of them).

Actually (and correct me if I'm wrong), Zondervan's product continued to operate for a time, even though Zondervan walked away?

That would be the theory of Logos (assuming it chose to re-invest in coal shipping to China).

The nameless company I'm referring to didn't even make it past a change in system versions. It bit the dust pretty quick. But luckily the company got picked up by the mother of Zondervan. A good fit.
