What kind of font issue is going on here? This is BHS apparatus in the popup, and one particular symbol is consistently replaced by an icon of an alien.

It looks to me like you are missing an installed font that is required.

BHS is downloaded, but the apparatus (accessed through superscripted letters) is not, and only resides on the Logos servers.

I'm not aware of a way to install new fonts on an ipad nor what font might be missing.

If you download the apparatus, you'll get the correct characters.

I found those same aliens in NIB in one of its 1st NT articles about early mss etc. Now I've missed my chance to be first to write about the aliens but I can at least confirm they are not limited to the resource Ben posted about. In NIB they are also footnote related.

Downloading the apparatus did fix it for me, but unless the notes in the NIB are a separate resource, I don't see how to apply the fix.

I have the NIB downloaded, and the footnote is built in to that resource, not something pulled from offline or some other resource. I expect the aliens will therefore be invading many other resources too. I don't imagine it will be limited to the two titles of the above posts.

They are cute, but really out of place and unexpected. Clearly a font matter, but something Logos might wish to review and understand.

EDIT: On PC, v5.3 Beta 1, I get a square instead of an alien, using main resource font=default or default(Logos 4). I've just changed to Georgia as its considered good for ebooks, and its now a fancy script B thing, as it is in most other fonts I tried.

So, now to find how to change fonts on the iPad ...

I think it should be something like a blackletter P, since those are numbered Papyri (I think I remember from another thread that there are resources which use a right one and a wrong one, sometimes in the same paragraph).
