It seems to be the common consensus that the Lexham Bible Guides are overpriced, I would agree. To pay the price of a top flight commentary is hard to justify. With that said they are far better than the Exegetical Summary Series. It is not just a collection of links but there is also some good commentary, both on the biblical text and the books it is linking to. As an added bonus there are some very nice Power Point slides that I have found useful for teaching. So if you compare the $37.50 cost of both volumes of An Exegetical Summary of Luke to the $50 community price for the Lexham Guide to Luke I would say that the $50 price is very competitive.
Just to give you an idea of the difference between the two, last year I taught a series on Ephesians and used the Lexham Guide extensively, I think I didn’t even bother opening the Exegetical Summary based on how unhelpful I have found it in the past.
The one thing I wish Logos would add to these is a basic slide with just the background. Obviously I needed some custom slides. What I was forced to do was cut a section of background out of one of the Logos slides. Paste this into Paint repeatedly until I created a background the size of a Power Point slide, save it and us this as my background. A lot of unnecessary work.
