Lost Resoruces Issue on new computer

I just bought a new computer to better run Logos 4. On my old computer Logos 4 has 1764 resources. On my new computer Logos 4 has only 1752 resources. I have tried doing a sync license in Logos 3 as well as an update in Logos 4. Nothing works.

I have not yet gone done a through search to see what specific resources are missing. One seems to be the pre-1995 NAS Bible. I will try to discover all the differences.

What would cause this, and how do I fix it?

I'm not sure Michael, I'm seeing this kind of error in several places on this forum.

The hint about the pre-95 NASB could be a part of the issue though. Logos no longer has the pre-95 NASB on its FTP site, as this is a pre-Logos3 resource and is no longer allowed to sell it. If you have other pre-Logos3 only resources (there are a few), updating to L4 on a new computer wouldn't download those for you either.

You've got a couple of options, but I'm not sure which will work best, since I'm not sure how Logos handles the licenses for those files.

Under the assumption that Logos3 synchronized your licenses to use these files (which were present and unlocked in Logos3), the licenses for those files should be on the Logos server. That being the case all you're missing are the files themselves. Did you back them up anywhere? If so scan that location from L4 using the command scan [resource location] in the L4 command bar. That should find them for you, and copy them to your L4 resource folder, and open them up for your use (if the licenses for those files were uploaded via Logos3's synchronize licenses feature).

If that doesn't work, things could get a little more complicated. But for now, keep the hard drive from your previous computer in case we need it for the Logos2 license files.

At the moment, I still have both computers. I have removed Logos 4 from the old, but not Logos 3.

I actually copied my Logos 3 resource folder to my new computer, so I should have all the files. I do have some pre-logos 3 books. That may be an issue.

I guess I need to figure out just what is missing.

Michael, I'm having a similar problem with a new computer. Do you see the Biblical People/Places/Things greyed out on your new PC?

That's what I was trying to explain in my first response to you. You are likely missing your Logos2 (and 1?) resources that are no longer offered by Logos.

Your old computer was able to pick them up because when it installed, it scanned your L3 resource folder for resources and saw those earlier resources. Your new installation doesn't have a way of putting the old resources on your new computer, because they aren't on your new computer yet (or are they?), and Logos can't download them, because they aren't on their servers.

In File Explorer, you could sort by date on both computers & look for the oldest ones... they're the ones most likely to be an issue.

An easy fix could be to just copy them to a USB drive & then scan that drive using the process Rich gave you to pick up the missing files.

I had coped my resource file from my old computer to the new one. However, I had not done a scan of the resource folder. That did it. Thanks for the suggestion.

That seems odd that because Logos cannot sell it, that a person who has already purchased it cannot put it on a new computer install from the FTP site. Since I cannot get my old laptop to boot up again, I may not be able to recover these resources that I had already purchased, and thought would be available via download from the Logos servers.

Some of these may be available on the Logos servers. If they don't have them anymore it's probably because they can't legally have them there anymore.

But if you have a license to a file that you have lost, you could ask if someone else has it and you could then have Logos4 find it (with the scan command) on a USB drive of some kind. If you have the license, and logos.com knows that you do, Logos4 should open it.

Also, you may be able to recover data from your laptop hard drive, even if you can't boot it up. But that's a computer tech question and exactly how depends on your model of computer, and probably a few other things.

There's almost always a way.

Thanks Richard. I might get a HD caddy for my old laptop HD since it doesn't seem to be the defective part (due to the process of elimintation I think it might be circuit board related?), and then I could connect it via USB for the scan.
