Sermon on the Mount

I am looking for something fresh on the Sermon on the Mount. Any ideas?

Not sure what you already have in your library, but I have found great value in the Hermeneia commentary on the Sermon on the Mount. All kinds of solid literary criticism.

John Stott's The Message of the Sermon on the Mount is very good. It is only available in the Bible Speaks Today set, but it is on sale right now: http://blog.logos.com/2014/08/30-off-the-bible-speaks-today/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+LogosBibleSoftwareBlog+%28Logos+Bible+Software+Blog%29
I've also enjoyed D.A. Carson's volume: https://www.logos.com/product/30963/jesus-sermon-on-the-mount-and-his-confrontation-with-the-world-an-exposition-of-matthew-5-10
Sadly, my favorite treatments from Martyn Lloyd-Jones and Robert Guelich aren't in Logos (at least last time I checked).

I would greatly second what Erik suggested. I also have Boice's commentaries which include a series on the sermon on the mount. I haven't read it yet, but I do like much of his other work.

I would also add the volumes by James M. Boice and Kent Hughes- both in Logos.

I have always been amazed that the sermon started with his disciples:
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:.. I take it that Jesus began the sermon speaking to the Disciples....when Jesus finished the Sermon the crowds were amazed...28 Now when Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were astounded at his teaching, 29 for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
This is an important theme in Matthew... Start with Jesus...through the Disciples then to the crowds...
this is one way at looking at Matt28:18,19.

John G Butler's Studies of the Savior has a volume dedicated to the Sermon on the Mount. Great alliteration and sermon ideas. Also Preaching the Word Series Sermon on the Mount and John Stott's volume included in the Bible Speaks Today currently on sale. Awesome fresh material!

Scot McKnight, Sermon on the Mount, Story of God Bible Commentary series (Zondervan, 2013):

For a taste of what's there, John Frye has been reviewing this commentary on Scot McKnight's blog. See:

Thank you. I have looked on it at Google Books. It is good. Just a little rich. So, it can be bought as a single.

I have Stott's book and am aware of Carson's. So you like Carson's treatment? Yes, Martyn Lloyd-Jones' book is the standard. Thanks!

Yes, I agree with him too. I have Boice and like it. Thanks.

I have both of those and use them regularly. Thanks!

I have Butler in my wish list. I will give it another look upon your recommendation. Thanks!

Nothing compares to Martyn Lloyd-Jones' "Studies on the Sermon on the Mount". But it is not in Logos.

Agreed. I still am hoping that it will be available one day.
