I have created custom highlights ,so as to be able to identfy with the vistual filter  on my Bible ttext, could some one tell me how I can make them show up automatically?

I'd need to see a screen shot of your Visual Filter to answer you. The basic pattern is:

1. create a palette with your custom highlights
2. create a visual filter with the criteria under which the custom highlights are used
3. turn the filter on in the resource you wish to show them in
