I am trying to get Logos started on an iPad, and have some queries.

In a previous post I asked whether an iPad or a Laptop is preferable for Logos. The answer I understand is that the laptop is better (in general) for detailed study. Is this the consensus view?
I note there are many apps available for Logos Bible Software. I use Logos Bible (= Bible!) and Verbum (= Verbum Catholic Bible Study). As a Catholic interested in the Bible and Church Fathers should I get other apps?
I believe Layouts are not available for iPads. What replaces them?
Is it correct to assume syncing is automatic?
Which (in general) is faster an iPad or a laptop?

Noel, using a laptop you will be using the Logos 5 Desktop Software for your computer. Using an iPad you will be using the Logos Bible app and I am android and cannot speak for the iPad; but in my experience the desktop software is much faster than the apps on our mobiles devices. Therefore, I would say the laptop will be faster. As far as Layouts for the iPad, on my android tablet and cell there is nothing to replace them and they are not available. Syncing across platforms is automatic, but recently my apps are not syncing and this is very new.

Quick run down of some of the apps:

Bible! Is the primary app with the most features.
Faithlife is a social based app. Geared towards groups (i.e. sunday school).
Verbum combines the first two apps, primarily for Catholic users.
Vyrso is a bare bones, eBook reader.

I would not keep Verbum and Bible! installed together. It's redundant. In your case, keep Verbum and ditch the Bible! app (I have done the opposite). Some users find its nice to have a second app... Vyrso is good as just a plain reader.

I dont understand. Nothing "replaces" layouts. There is a split screen, which another user directed you to in your other post.

Basically, yes.

What do you mean "faster"? What are you trying to do? Opening up the mobile app and starting to read is much faster on the mobile app.

I will have to respectfully disagree with Alabama's 'ditching'. And this illustrates a major difference between the Logos5 app and the mobile apps.

* The mobile apps do not support layouts. That means everytime you switch or check a resource, you have to fiddle to get back to square one.

* Similarly mobile apps do not have the major links that the Logos5 has. You get to link 2. Done.

This is why the mobile apps benefit from multiple instances .... Bible!, Verbum, Vyrso, Noet, etc. On an iPad you can keep several open, which effectively become 'layouts'. Read on one, study the Bible on another, devotions on a third, and so on. Typically libraries aren't duplicated, plus since the mobiles have very poor library support, each mobile app can specialize in a portion of your library.

Now, admitedly, this would be different, if mobiles supported layouts.

It's hard to say without knowing which iPad you have. If it's an iPad 1, support will soon be dropped.
