Feedback on Chaplain's Library

Hi,

I own the Silver Logos 5.x version of the software and wondered if adding Chaplain's Library is a good idea or not? I thought the June Hunt counseling resources looked plentiful and useful?

My apology if I overlooked a similar post somewhere - but anyone have this package and find it useful in everyday ministry or as an assistant pastor who occasionally does some counseling? Is it a good foundation for useful lookups and Biblical helps please?

If no, what do you recommend instead that is broad, accessible, and very Biblical - in short, for the laymen who wants to help others and is not a medical or Pastoral Counselor?

I can't give you much feedback on the specific counseling resources since I just purchased it last Wednesday, but I bought it primarily due to the Pastorum Collection, Baker Encyclopedia of Psychology and Counseling, Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics, and the additional Opening Up volumes (37 vols.).

My cost for these resources alone would have been significantly higher than purchasing CL, so it was a fantastic deal with dynamic pricing at slightly over "two Benjamins".

So far the June Hunt resources also look very promising. I don't think you will find better breadth in another collection or resource. If you want a sample from any specific resource let me know.

Josh, I would recommend it. Great resources. June Hunt collection is also very nice for a quick peek reference in short time through my phone sometimes. (in fact, I bought June Hunt's collection way before the package)

I think the package has the best "applications" resources. Laymen loves "application" resources.

My second recommendation would be the Pentecostal & Charismatic package if you can afford it.

I have personally found the Hunt collection to be wonderfully broad (it covers a tremendous amount of topics) but typically shallow (it's really a collection of "Bible bandaids" rather than a robust counseling resource for any given topic).

So it depends on what you're looking for. If you need quick points on a huge number of items, grab Hunt. If you want penetrating heart-change go with a more robust resource like the Journal of Biblical Counseling.
