I'd like to have this in Logos:
Knowing God by Name: A Conversation between Elizabeth A. Johnson and Karl Barth (Issues in Systematic Theology, Vol. 13) by Cherith Fee Nordling - she's the daughter of Gordon Fee and a fine theologian in her own right, and I happen to know her; this is an examination of an important female Catholic theologian who is at the center of controversy in the RC Church. I would like to learn more about her from someone who is an expert. Cherith posted about her book on Facebook today:
"To this day, no one, not myself or the theological community, the media, or the general public, knows what doctrinal issue is at stake,' [sister Elizabeth Johnson] told the assembly of about 900 sisters representing 80 percent of the nation’s nuns."
She quips that the bishops clearly didn't read her book. I did, along with everything else she ever wrote up to the printing of that book.
Clearly she hasn't read my book. If anyone is actually interested, including sister Beth, in understanding what some of those doctrinal issues are, I address them in "Knowing God by Name: A Conversation Between Elizabeth A. Johnson and Karl Barth." http://www.amazon.com/Knowing-God-Name-Conversation-Systematic/dp/0820478636.
Johnson speaks to us prophetically about the Church's call to the issues. She gives up the very hope she longs for, however, in her reconstruction, by dropping the Incarnation, the Triune Persons, and a few other key aspects of the faith along the way.
My book's not a quick read (the fate of most dissertation books). It adds another voice - non-Catholic and female - to the dialogue regarding her theology, however; a voice that has tried to take her very seriously.
Have fun!
