I do not know if anyone has discovered or reported this work around ..
If you need to increase the font in a tab, which will either not increase or which leads to a crash, I attempted and succeeded with a simple work around until the problem is addressed in a future alpha release.
Float the pane, then increase the font. The font will increase and the program will not crash.
