Second Temple literature

I'm looking, not for primary sources, I have enough, but resources that deal with how second temple literature affect both Judiaism and early Christian world views.

If you want, go ahead and suggest primary sources - I may not have everything I need and it will give me a good excuse to buy more books.

A good starting point could be "The Eerdmans Dictionary of Early Judaism, Collins, John J., and Daniel C. Harlow, eds" as it will help put the literature in its cultural and theological context. The bibliography for the articles on literature is recent (2010) and highlights major works.

There is also

I have Nickelsburg, and while I find it good, it likely overlaps some resources you probably already have. I felt like I got more out of a few other resources. I found the study guide very useful though in context with his book.

There is Helyer's "Exploring Jewish Literature of the Second Temple Period", but I haven't read it yet.

You might check out authors like: Geza Vermes and Joseph Klausner.

Also newer perspectives specific to the era of Jesus from David Flusser, David Bivin, Robert Lindsey, Marvin Wilson.. though I wouldn't necessarily agree with some of their conclusions.

I have Lester L. Grabbe's, "An Introduction to Second Temple Judaism" in print that has been pretty good. He has a couple of other works, but they are all very historical in nature.

I would NOT put to much focus on any work before the mid 1960's.

Seconded. The articles that constitute the 290 page introduction before the A-Z of the dictionary are invaluable summaries.

Looking at your suggestions, very helpful by the way, I came across this interview with Dr. Charlesworth on his book The Tomb of Jesus and His Family?: Exploring Ancient Jewish Tombs near Jerusalem’s Walls which is part of the Eerdmans Early Judaism Collection (7 vols.). This may be a possible winner here.

There are only two books that you all suggested that I do not have. One being, The Eerdmans Dictionary of Early Judaism. However, in the 7 vol collection here is a "comprehensive overview" of the Dictionary of Early Judaism.

The interview with Dr. Charlesworth is twenty-two minutes long. Very interesting if you're into archeology and such.

Eerdmans is a good publishing house but I don't want to study as deeply as You, Milkman, especially not this decade.

I have a pre-pub order for:

... what do You think of it? I'm thinking of perhaps canceling the order as I yet again have too many pre-pub orders.
If it's too basic for You, Milkman, I would not recommend it to You.
