Will Logos be compatible with Windows 10? :)

So will it?!?! Perhaps the next Logos will be L7. The number of completion and all that LOL

To answer the heading question, I need to know the date when Win 10 launches and when it is deprecated. It would also be useful to know the distribution of operating systems/devices during the timeframe that Win 10 is considered a major Microsoft product. Give me that information and I'll give you an educated guess on Logos with Win 10. [:P]
Okay I read the news and get the joke [:$] [:D]
I would expect Logos to get into the beta relatively early. So yes, I guess yes.

I hear that MSFT wanted to use "Windows OSX," but their lawyers put the kibosh on that. [:P]

We will support all major versions of Windows and Mac OS X when they're released.
We do not support beta or preview versions of operating systems; if you install Logos on a pre-release version of an OS, it may not work.
There may also be a (short) delay in full support for a new OS right after it is released. Apple, in particular, is notorious for introducing breaking changes between the final preview version of the OS (that they release to developers for testing) and the actual version they ship to consumers. We recommend not updating to a new OS version the day it's released, but instead waiting a few days to see if others report compatibility issues. (This is a safe strategy for all the applications you have installed, not just Logos.)

I'm pretty sure the internal version number will be Window 6.4. So much for the "jump"...

Will logos reconsider to develop app for windows since w10 will have 1 App Store with same framework?

I don't think you are being very clear... You are meaning to ask "will Logos reconsider to develop a MOBILE app for windows", right? Because of course, Logos already has developed an "app" for windows... it is called "Logos 5."
I think the answer is still: we will have to wait and see. There are too many unknowns. Presumably there will still be a dichotomy between a mobile version and a full desktop version (similar to RT/Pro now).

Unlike my good friend from the middle east (Alabama , Georgia is the far east), I am a Windows person at heart. My computer / tablet of choice is my Surface Pro 2. However, since the Surface Pro 2 does run the full Logos 5 so well, I am not sure if I would use a Windows app or not. Maybe I would use it for just reading my library, but I have no problem doing that by just floating the book in separate screen. There is a basic Windows app in the Windows store, but it is certainly not comparable to the IOS AP. I have not bothered to download it and try it yet - after almost a year of using Logos on my Surface Pro 2. I keep saying that I am going to out of curiosity. But obviously, I have not needed it, and I use Logos hours every day on my Surface Pro.
However, those who use Windows RT do need the Windows AP. But apparently, Logos does not believe the market is big enough to make it worth the development costs to produce a full blown Windows AP. You are really only taking about the Windows RT customers (and Windows phone customers), which a totally different animal that Windows 8 customers (Surface pro). So it only a small segment of even the Windows market that would need it.

installing logos beta on windows beta as we speak... will let you know the results after class.

Still downloading resources, but it installed with no little trouble. First try failed, but the second time I told it to install in compatibility mode for windows 8, and it went right in.
Should point out that I used the wrong install file - I installed the production version not the beta, the beta may or may not require compatibility mode.L2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,

On my machine, Logos 5 worked fine with the original Windows 10 technical preview. However, on the updated 9860 build, Logos 5 will not even start. It comes up with the Logos encountered an error window and closes. I'm sure this will be resolved before long, I just wanted to warn anyone who might try this on their main machine.

I can't reproduce this crash.
Can you post logs? It's possible this is a problem isolated to your installation, and not with build 9860 in general.

I've attached the error log. I've tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling and it made no difference. I also made sure I installed all updates to Windows.

You need to enable logging. Make sure to include the logos.log file. You might want to zip the log files. See this wiki link:

I am sure Bradley will chime in with something much more useful... Right from the get go, you logs indicate an error that the "compatibility mode" for L5 is set to "~ WIN8RTM ".
Does that mean anything to you?

After the first several crashes I ran the Windows compatibility tool to see if that would help, but it didn't. I'm guessing that's why it sees Windows 8 RTM

Did you grab the last log AFTER Logos crashed and BEFORE you restarted?

Yes. I held control, and launched the program. After it crashed on the logo screen (same place as always) I found and uploaded the new log.

Have you tried loading to a blank layout?

Does Logos have some kind of 'safe mode' to accomplish this? Are there files I should remove from the appdata/logos directory? I'm new to logos so have never dealt with troubleshooting it.

Never mind. I figured out where the blank layout is when using the logging mode. It still crashed. I even tried loading offline and it still crashed.

That's OK. [:)]
I just ran down some of the more common "fixes" in case the issue was simpler. I think we will need someone who REALLY knows how to read logs. Hopefully Bradley will pop in at some point.

No problem. I do understand that running a beta OS does put me in the 'grace' support category, but it would be nice to get it running here.

It looks like a problem with the framework or something that Logos depends on. You might find some information about the crash in the event viewer that would indicate where the problem is:
https://wiki.logos.com/Windows_Troubleshooting#Logos_.28or_the_Logos_Indexer.29_crashes
You might try a Repair on the Logos Prerequisites from Control Panel -> Programs. I'm not familiar with Win10 but I imagine it includes updated versions of some of the prereqs, so I'm a little unsure on this point...

For what its worth, my system hasn't had any real problem with Logos and 10 - running the beta now and it works as well as you'd expect.
I even shut windows 10 down improperly to try and force something, but it continued to work.L2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,

I would definitely recommend disabling "Compatibility Mode". (We log it as an "Error" because it typically creates more problems than it solves for Logos 5.)
This crash appears to be the type that (for technical reasons) we're unable to log in our standard log files. You should be able to find details in Event Viewer (search the Start Screen for "view event logs"), under Windows Logs > Application (look for an "Error" from "Application Error" or ".NET Runtime").
Pasting the details from that may help us troubleshoot.
Is network/web access from your Windows Technical Preview machine working normally? You're logging a few web service errors, and I'm wondering if that might be related.

As part of troubleshooting. I uninstalled both the prerequisites, and the logos program and then reinstalled everything. What I did not do was check to make sure everything was removed from the appdata/logos directory. Would it be worth repeating the uninstalls, delete this folder, and then reinstall?

There seem to be 2 event lots that appear when Logos crashes. I have attached them both.0572.error1.txt
0 -
Ok.
Upon further investigation I found the problem is wider spread than just Logos. Visual Studio and my deployment kit exhibit the same behavior. At this point I will conclude something went wrong in the update and I will blow away the machine and rebuild it with the WTP and report back the results.

Well, after a complete rebuild of the system, everything is now working. I think there were some deep level issues on the system beyond even the graphics drivers. I had uninstalled the drivers and installed the latest versions several times trying to resolve some other issues that had persisted so something must have broken along the way.

I still cannot believe that Logos will not run on a Windows phone. How sad is that?
Sigh.

Can you post logs? There are no known incompatibilities with any Windows 10 Preview build.
