Notes v. Clippings,

Greetings,
This may seem like a rather simple question, but I'm curious...when do you use notes, and when do you use clippings? I can see advantages for each, in the end they are places and ways to store info, so I'd like to know your preference and why?

Clippings, for me at least, are for keeping direct quotes from what I've read - kind of like the note cards we used to make in prep for a major paper at school.
Notes are for my comments on something, or if I want to remind myself later to check a certain commentary, Bible dictionary, etc., for a passage. Notes are designed to be attached to text somewhere (in a Bible or other book), though they don't need to be.
Others use these two things differently, or use one but not the other.

I use Clippings because they are useful for my personal study and home group when presenting a topic. You can add your own notes/comment to each clip. I'm not one to comment on or highlight passages so i don't use Notes.

Hey Dave I am also a big fan of clippings, but I have one more thing I would like to add to clippings. And that is to be able to copy something I found on the internet or some other source besides logos and put it in to a clipping, is their a way to do it?

You can't create a clipping from the internet (clippings isn't "evernote,"), but you can always paste content from the internet into an existing clipping... I actually prefer using evernote... but it depends upon what you are trying to do with the clipping.

I don't see any use for clippings. I use notes exclusively.

Thanks for the response alabama24 so how do you put something that you have copied from another resource besides logos in to a clipping?

You can paste it to the Notes area of a clipping, assuming it complements the clipping subject. Or you can create a clipping from a Logos resource, strip out the content & headings and then paste the internet content into the clipping content area, modifying the headings appropriately.

Great idea Dave, works great except for one part it won't let you delete the book title that came with the first clipping. But thumbs up for you great idea, I didn't even think of that.

Good day Dave I have been reading a lot on the clippings and notes and would like to get your thoughts on this. I like to follow a reading plan that makes use of Old and New Testament reading for the day. I would like to keep what stand out for me in that year to be able to refer back and compare it with the following years. What would you recommend doing here. I have tried making a clipping of the reading plan but then it is one giant clipping in a year. And please keep in mind I am using IPad not desktop so that have all the functions a desktop user has. I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

I'm not familiar with IPad, except that it seems closer to Desktop than Android hardware. So I'll relate concepts from Desktop and you can hopefully adapt them to iPad.
Clippings is not a good tool for referencing passages where content will grow over time.
I suggest you create Notes by reference in a single Notebook which means they will be available to you in any bible and you could access previous notes for a reading and possibly have them side by side with your bible. Creating a new note from your bible should be straightforward, but you need to keep the readings the same (ideally) from year to year e.g. just regenerate the Plan for each year. Date would have to be part of your note for each year.
EDIT: If there is an overlap/expansion of readings next time, you could use Add Anchor to avoid multiple notes/icons.
