Bible Reading Plans

Bible Reading Plans can be very creative. Plans vary. Grant H's 10 Chapters in 10 different areas of the Bible, Read thru the Bible in 90 Days. Reading a "per chapter" approach. OT matching NT approach, etc, etc, etc. Our current Bible Reading program is completely unable to work with these plans. All that is needed is some more control.

The first thing to add is the ability to add another line ("Add another Reading") button.

Add whether that reading will happen Daily, weekly, on only certain days, or upon each session.

Add the ability to break readings at Chapters.

Allow a reading plan that is variable for the books based on a unique plan. Such as 10 Chapters a day in these (narrative?) books 20 chapters a session in Psalms, etc.

Thanks. These rules are easy for a computer to keep up with, and will help people consider reading on their PC's instead of print materials more and more.

While I have my own favorites with slightly different quirks, I say YES - the current limitations make the current feature of little use to me.

I like where you two were going with this thread. Sorry to jump in so late. I did a little research before creating a new thread and found this...

The generic reading plan options... yeah, I'd like to see something fully customizable. The International Sunday School lessons go thru the Bible in six years, and I think for starters, Logos should allow users to pick timeframes up to three, four, five or six--okay, hey, even seven or eight years! Reading thru in one year is not something I would recommend to anyone, having jumped in at other times myself--and been warned afterwards by others. Small chunks can be Good, less can be more, and reading too much just to complete a schedule is an awkward treatment for the Holy Scriptures, which often need digestion--and not training oneself to quench the Spirit by Pharisaically trudging on when it is time to stop, pray, reflect, and even dig deeper.

Following the ISS plan could also be an option for completing the reading, Logos could either offer this or offer more customizeable features, as JJ Miller discussed--and even today in another thread, one user asked why all readings start at January 1, and how can we change this. Alternatively, I'd like to see a responsive feature that can recalculate on-the-fly, if a reader desires, instead of building up a "backlog" of "duties" a reader is "behind" on.

I once began to build my own plan, using spreadsheets and all--but finally found a plan on the web it looked VERY much like, I guess we'd heard some of the same points (like start in Mark, for instance), it is NAV Press's "Book at a Time" plan, which intersperses OT and NT readings.

The only thing I might advise as an upgrade to it is to increase the ratio of NT readings, like 3 or 4 NT completions for every one pass through the OT. (i.e.: another user-customizeable feature!). Incidentally, another plan very similiar to this suggestion is their new 5x5x5 plan--short five minute readings, five days a week, taking a reader through the New Testament (in a year).

Of course, there are also Chronological reading plans (like The Narrated Bible, etc.) but these often leave the New Testament wholly untouched for such LONG stretches of time (hence the love of the interspersed readings with increased ratios in the New Testament.

Hi, Just a quick note to say how much I appreciate the thought gone into the pre-determined reading plans. I particularly like the one on work - which is a much under considered topic in churches. Can I please encourage you to provide some more, perhaps exploring the nature of Covenant throughout the Scriptures. [:D]

I would love to see the Life Journal Reading plan. Because it has daily readings from both the OT and NT (you read the OT 1x and NT 2x) it's not something the current settings would allow us to create on our own. Since it was originally designed for a church to go through the Bible in a year it seems like it would be a great addition with the group reading plans for Faithlife.
