Determining Duplicate Mobile Devices

I just noticed today that I now have two iPads listed in my mobile devices when I thought I had one. (See photo below) I'm not sure how this happened. Since they both have the same name I have two questions.

Is there a way to determine why there are two?

and...
Which one I can safely delete without losing the books associated to the one I have been using?

I, too, have multiple iPads listed and want to delete the correct ones. I would love to know how to identify them.

Change the name of your device and wait for the webpage to update to it. Once it does, delete the device with the old name. That's how I figured it out.

That's sort of a backward way of doing it but I guess it would work. But why would each of us (and presumable others too) have multiple devices listed? Was that something done by us or by Logos?

It is a known issue, and most often happens when you update your OS.

By the way, how long does this normally take? I've changed the name, synced and waited for about a half hour now but it hasn't changed yet.

I've updated often but have never experienced this before.

It happened to me when I switched from iOS 6 to iOS 7 and again to iOS 8.

I hope it can be resolved.

In defense of Logos, I <think> it is related to Apple changing the way devices are "recognized." In defense of Apple, they continue to work to provide great new features while helping to maintain users privacy.

I <think> this is what you need to do, but I can't verify with the site down... Rename the devices on the "devices" page on the website.

I went to my iPad, chose "setting" then "about" then "name" and then changed it there.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I could only post from my phone while I was at work.

Here is what I ::think:: I remember doing, as I did it about a month ago. I renamed my iOS device from the Logos website, in my profile, as Alabama mentions. I didn't do anything to my actual iOS device. So you can undo what you did. Sorry for the confusion.

Once you change the webpage name, open up Logos and go to your library. You can sort the columns in such a way where you can see what resources are on what device. Once the changes you made on the webpage sync with your desktop Logos (mine took a few minutes), figure out which device you want everything on and change them over to it. Once you're done with that, go back to the webpage and delete whichever ever listed device is the one you don't want anymore. If you change the names to something distinctive, like "iPad Yes" and "iPad No", you can easily tell which one to delete.

Thanks Greg and Alabama. I am only getting around to trying this now since the website was pretty much unavailable yesterday. Your solution was pretty simple in the end. I was just doing it from my device and not the website.

When I renamed my device on the website I called it Bruce's iPad Mini. As a longer term solution I decided to go to my device and call it the same so that, if this happens in the future, I can easily tell which one to delete. I think that solution should work. Can you see any issues with that?

Only if the same glitch that initially happened happens again. Unless you have a regular iPad and an iPad mini, I don't see why naming it "Bruce's iPad Mini" would help if it doubles the devices again. It would just say "Bruce's iPad Mini" twice.

That's how it seems to me though! Maybe with Logos 6, this glitch was taken care of!

You open up your library on your computer. See the column labels at the top? Title, Author, Rating, etc? Right click on that row and you'll see a list of options you can check to display. Make sure "Devices" is checked and then it should display what resource is on what device. Just scroll over in your list until you see your devices listed. When you do that, you can sort them by device.

Right click on the bar at the top of your Library window—The one what has "Type, Title" etc. Then select the fields you want displayed in the dropdown list. In this case, chose "Devices"
