Upgrade or wait?

Is Logos 6 out of Alpha yet or should I wait a couple of years for it to be almost complete and ready for logos 7's Alpha release? Sorry but though Bob has been fair and upright towards unhappy customers like myself, I still have low confidence in their product releases since the days of Logos 4 for Mac. Add to that the continuing development of Logos 5 with it's bug fixes and constant updates I can only wonder again why another new version when the old wasn't completed yet. On the flip side I'd love for them to give me a reason to trust again. Logos 3 and before were such great products with no wiki front page to patiently wait to load just a nice fast interface.

Logos does not publicly release Alpha's and the Beta cycle for L6 was a private one. The release of Logos 6 you can buy today is the first stable release after going through extensive Alpha and Beta testing. That is not to say there are no bugs, nor is it to say there will not be improvements and new features in future releases of L6.

First of all, Mt 6:14-15 and Luke 17:4-5.

It would seem as though the buggy code was tested on the beta testers for 5.3 first. I am running the production version of 6, and it seems to be working just fine.

    L2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,

Bug fixes and constant updates are any software, not just Logos....  Apple, Microsoft, Accordance, Office, Quicken, Quickbooks, etc... That is standard for the software field.

And not all of the updates are bug fixes, some are feature additions or enhancements.  I would highly recommend upgrading.  AND the frontpage is VERY snappy now, so please don't let that deter you just because it is dreadfully slow in L4 and L5.

Dennis the decision to when to upgrade is totally up to you.

I have been using Logos since version 4. I love Logos. There is no other program (I do own other programs) that offers what Logos do and has enhance my Bible study immensely.

But Logos, as any other program is not perfect, will have bugs, and will always have room for improvement. The next one will always be better and just when the new one comes out, the previous one will be the most stable. That is the nature of software.

I choose what I use and what I upgrade based on how it will help me do what is design to do. Contrary to other programs that just search information, Logos works for me as a personal research assistant. The new version of Logos 6 has many improvement in the way it does that job.

Will the new version has more bugs that Logos 5 or even Logos 6 if you wait a whole year? Of course yes. It is, after all, a new program and spite all the testings, the designers and testers are human beings.

    I have upgraded already.

Yes, I agree with David, specially in the front or home page. I was surprise how much snappier is compared to Logos 5.

FWIW Dennis as a beta tester. I (we) really did try to break this as many ways as we could so that things would get fixed before they got to you.

If I go back and look at the list, there is a very substantial drop off in bug reports as we left beta and hit RC.

I know that nothing is perfect. Microsoft has a patch tuesday for a reason. But we did our best to help you all get a rock solid product. The programmers complied with rapid fixes.  So while I may have reported my first regression bug this morning, but I also expect it to be sorted quickly.

There are some significant improvements IMHO in L6 over L5. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like, I and the others will try to answer them to the best of our ability.

Last of all, don't fret about hanging back for a week to watch and wait. It sounds like that might be what you feel comfortable with. In the mean time, check my sig for a link to a video stream from Logos on many of the new features and weigh if it's for you.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

TCBlack, I checked out some of the features videos and I have to agree some of the new stuff is quite impressive if it works as advertised but when Investigating the upgrade paths I think the upgrade prices are just nuts. They appear to be offering little to nothing significant in the starter package which jumps an L5 user with an already significant library to have to spend upwards of $300+ to get a package with usable datasets to make all the new features worthwhile. That's asking a little bit to much from established users who have already invested in the previous product.

I completely understand where you're coming from.

While the engine is free (in February) The question I (we)  have to ask is "are the datasets worth the money?"  After using them for a month, I believe they are. So for me it's a question of L6 Gold or just the Feature Crossgrade because both of them give the datasets. Neither is cheap - and I already own a rather robust library. But I do want the datasets.
