It took me awhile to figure out how to get my Bible verse numbers back, but I've got them and that's fine. But, I really only want the Bible text (including verse numbers) and none of the headings.

I've clicked Bible text only, and that gets rid of the extraneous "stuff" but I loose my verse numbers. If I uncheck that box, I get my verses but I also get the junk. e.g.

Crying over Jerusalem
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem! You who kill the prophets and stone those who were sent to you. How often I wanted to gather your people together, just as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. But you didn’t want that. 38 Look, your house is left to you deserted. 39 I tell you, you won’t see me until you say, Blessings on the one who comes in the Lord’s name.”

The temple’s fate
24 Now Jesus left the temple and was going away. His disciples came to point out to him the temple buildings. 2 He responded, “Do you see all these things? I assure that no stone will be left on another. Everything will be demolished.”

Beginning of troubles

I want my text in paragraphs, but I don't want to see "Crying over Jerusalem" or "The temple's fate" or "Beginning of troubles" -- those aren't part of the text. But, I do want the verse numbers and this was a feature we had available in earlier versions of Logos that we seem to have lost this time.

Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance and blessings

Blessings,

Dale Durnell

What version of the bible are you using? It is possible we have not published an updated version that supports the new visual filter. Looking at the text you posted my guess is CEB, which looks like it has not been updated. I'm not sure if it is on our queue, but will pass this note along to our text team.

You can check multiple boxes. In your case, check "Bible Text Only", "Bible Text Formatting" and "Bible/Verse Numbers".

Most (but not all) Bibles have those options.

I've just checked on 5.2b and setting "Bible text only" gave verse numbers but one verse per line.

You can get the same effect in Logos 6 by checking the "one verse per line" option but I don't think there is anyway of getting verses in paragraphs in this format.

You can get this using the CBV tool but that's not probably what you are looking for here.

EDIT: Apologies - my response was for the NIV (84) but other versions (such as NIV2011) support the capabiltiies which you are looking for and that Mark outlines above.

  • Todd, I am indeed using the CEB as my preferred bible. I noticed when I moved over to the ESV that I had an option for Chapter and Verse numbers but that option was not available in the CEB, nor is it available in the MSG.

As long as I know it's just a matter of time before the resource gets updated (didn't expect all of them to be updated at the same time -- moving from LLS to Libronix, to Logos 4 was a similar matter of waiting for the new resources.

    Thanks ever so much

  • Thanks Mark -- the CEB and MSG neither one have the option for Chapter and Verse -- the ESV and others do. So, I'll just have to wait and see if the updated resource solves the problem.

  • Graham, the "Simple Paragraph" format in CBV is actually what I prefer for my text -- it's nice to know that option is there when I export -- it's just too bad that my preferred CEB translation doesn't offer that feature at this time.

    Thanks -- Dale

As you have guessed, the CEB has not been updated to include these new visual filters.

With some known exceptions, we focused our updating efforts on Bibles that were included in Logos 6 base packages. (The notable exceptions would be Dead Sea Scrolls documents and Talmudic literature. These are classified as Bibles but are still on our "to update" list.)

Ultimately, we hope to update all Bibles and the CEB is certainly on the list.

(Selfishly, this visual filter is one of my favorite new features of L6 and I have motivation to get as many Bibles as possible updated as quickly as possible.)

Dale--I missed your comment about MSG.

Is MSG the Message? That was included in our updates and should be working. (It is on my machine.) If it's not working for you, I'd like to figure out what is happening.

  • Good Afternoon Kyle,

I double checked the Message (MSG) this morning and all is well. Don't know whether I just missed it, or whether it was an update that came in after I checked it against the CEB behavior.

I do look forward to an update on the CEB resource however [:)]

Thats great news Dale. Thanks for the update.

Even better news: I made the necessary updates to the CEB. It'll go out with the next big batch of updates.

At this point I'm not sure what day that will be but most likely within the next two weeks.

When you say all Bibles, does that include the Swedish Bibles that aren't produced directly by you?

    Mea culpa!

Ultimately, yes, we would like to update all Bibles. Realistically, certain Bibles such as those we didn't produce will take longer. (Conceivably much, much, much longer).

My general point is that we will continue to update Bibles with these fields.

What Bible did you have in mind?
