Steps:

No hits are found. But this Sense was listed in the flyout and also in the Interlinear panel in the resource [4] so it is there.

Am I missing something or is something wrong here?

If it works in ESV and NIV I know why that would be. I don't know anything specific about the NIV but in beta testing the ESV was the only English version that worked for several iterations.

UPDATE: based on your update. The underlying coding is on the Greek not on the English. I believe that a reverse interlinear must be present for it to work. Perhaps the Logos 6 forum post introducing the feature stated which translations it works with.

For me, Bible Search (All Passages; Top Bibles) on <Sense = dependability> returns the same three verses in ESV, LEB, AV 1873, and NRSV. I suspect we haven't yet shipped the updated NIV with the embedded data to make this search work. I'll check on this.

Hi Richard.

When you say 'NIV', do you mean the 1984 NIV or the 2011 NIV? Regardless of whether I do it inline or in the search dialog, when I do what you specify in the 2011 NIV I get 4 hits in 3 verses: Rom 5:4 (2x); 2Co 2:9; Phil 2:22.

When I do it with the 1984 NIV, I get no results. My guess is that the 1984 NIV has not been rebuilt for L6 yet. It may have slipped under the radar due to it being essentially deprecated, but we'll see what can be done to get it (and its NT Reverse Interlinear) rebuilt so that the resource can take advantage of the new search functionality.

I meant the 2011, but i realize now i was fooled by only looking at Top Bibles: i hadn't prioritized the NIV2011, so it wasn't included.

If i search <Sense to weep> for All Bibles, i get a much longer list (which Rick correctly notes doesn't include the 1984 NIV):

Sense tagging is on the original-language texts (SBL Greek NT and Lexham Hebrew Bible) and shows up in your English Bibles whenever you have a reverse interlinear resource that connects those English Bibles to the sense-tagged texts. However, there could be gaps in some English Bibles if they are based on different versions of the Greek or Hebrew for specific verses.

I don't know why the search is failing for NIV84.

The method by which senses are displayed in the interlinear ribbon is different than the method by which senses are actually indexed against the text. The latter is Logos 6 and requires the resource to be rebuilt with updated tooling so that the feature can be taken advantage of in L6.

I think all your questions about NIV84 search results with L6 search features will be resolved once we're able to put out a new build of it. Our initial list to complete by launch date was "Reverse Interlinear Bibles that are included in L6 packages." The NIV84 is not one of those. I've requested that it be rebuilt, so I think it'll happen soon unless there is something else constraining us from so doing.

Rick - that would be fantastic, thanks for putting in a request!

NIV84 is one of my key study resources, for historical reasons as much as anything, so if it can be brought up to date that would be ideal. I am using the ESV and LEB alongside for the detailed study, but I have so many annotations in the NIV that I need to have it around somewhere. I know it's a bit of a dinosaur these days but it has its uses, and for all its faults it's the one I've memorised the most.
