I have a fresh copy of windiows installed. I have installed a fresh copy of Logos 4.

I get a runtime error thus it never is able to start/complete Stage One.

Anyone else experiencing this problem.

Kirk

    Depends on the error.....

Some of these errors and I have a hunch yours might be one of them is caused from an incomplete or faulty install of the .NET framework.

If that's the case, a reinstall of the .NET framework followed by a fresh install of L4 should fix it.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

I've got L4 running on my laptop fine, but have had major problems getting it to load on my desktop. What I finally figured out was that it was a faulty .Net installation. The problem with this is that with some installs of .Net, you can't just uninstall and start over. I finally had to track down a program by a Microsoft MVP that cleans out faulty .Net installations and allows you to reinstall. L4 installed and is now in the process of indexing so hopefully this is going to solve my problem.

I think this might be an instance where a link would be nice.  Do you remember where you got said program?

Ok. Sorry not to think of that. Here's the link I used.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100/.

The page gives two methods to uninstall .Net and reinstall it -- I had to use the second method. And everything seems to be working fine with mine now.

WHY DOES THIS WORK?  RUNNING MSI FILE MANUALLY WORKED FOR ME:  I've had the MS Visual C ++ Runtime Library Runtime Error with 4.0, 4.0a, and each SR.  Each time on the phone with a tech, the answer 'seemed' to be different .  With 4.0, the tech found the new msi file and just out of curiosity double clicked it and walla - the installation ran.  Today, after downloading 800+ mg for SR 3, I got the Runtime Error again.  Rather than get on the phone, I tried the same approach (extremely unscientific).  I did a search on Logos4 files and found the new batch of files.  There was a new Logos4.msi file with the same new date as the batch.  I double clicked and walla again.  Installation kicked off and all ran smoothly.  Upon completion, I closed L4 and restarted and the stage 1 to 3 processes kicked off automatically and all ran smooth.  Check 'help', I now have SR-3.  This solution may only apply to me and it is certainly not an elegant way to install but I can't get on the phone everytime there is an update.  Hope this at least helps point to a solution.

Thanks for that James. It is an elegant workaround until Logos can find an elegant solution.

Can you confirm that you found the file in ...\Logos4\Install\Installers?

    Hi Dave,

Here is the path as it now looks (after install):  C:\Documents and Settings\James L. Powell\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4\Data\2gi41qoo.pl5\UpdateManager\Installers.  Now, there are no contents in this directory.

After download and prior to successful install is when I searched and found the new msi file.  I'm sure it was under the same path above with one exception.  After \Installers, there was another sub directory called '24', i.e.,  ... \2gi4iqoo.pl5\updatemanager\installers\24.  I wrote this down during the 'debug' process.  That directory and contents must have been deleted as part of the install.

Next time when a new SR patch is released.  I'll document all this more closely.

I don't mean this as snotty as it sounds (!) but does it strike anyone else that we seem to be moving backwards in time, and that we all need to learn DOS or BASIC again?

    Okay, I feel better.

I reconnected yesterday and ran 'Update' to see if any new updates were out there.  I usually keep 'use internet' in 'settings' turned off.  Yes there were updates that required me to run Logos install again.  I receive the same error mentioned in this thread.  This has plagued me since moving to Logos 4.  But, as before, I used the solution I described above and double clicked the msi file in the new installer directory.  This ran the install and all is once again fine.  I don't understand why I need to continue using this work around but it's quicker than spending a lot of time on the phone everytime I am required to run the Logos install program.
