If I switch to Logos 6 Chaplain's - what do I gain but still miss out on?

Greetings in Christ Jesus....

Anyone switch to Logos 6.0 Chaplains Library from their Logos Silver 5.0 and find they like the switch?

Do I miss out on any functionality by only going with this version of 6.0?

I hate to give up my Newspaper style front page (which as many of you know I think Logos should not have tampered with).

With my student discount the transfer above would be less than $300 for me but I wonder what i lose in the process.

Blessings,

Joshua

For clarification: You don't "lose" anything. You only GAIN the new resources and datasets that are in this package that you don't already own. On the product page: https://www.logos.com/product/43565/chaplains-library

Change the box to "new to you" to see what you would gain.

That is a different question... I don't know if there is a feature comparison sheet showing all the new features vs. the various base packages.

If by this you mean "Are there features of the full L6 that don't come in the Chaplain's Package, there are a few. Below are screen shots from the Feature Crossgrade showing the features you need for full L6 functionality. I've pointed to the ones you will not get in the Chaplain's Library:

There is other content in the Feature Crossgrade that you will not have, but I think this addresses the primary features of L6.

Logos 5 Silver also lacked some of teh full Logos 5 features so I don't know if you want them all.

To get all of these you can purchase the Chaplain's Libraray and then purchase the Feature Crossgrade, which at that point will show you dynamic pricing, charging you just for the features you don't have.

Hurray, Bible Word Senses is missing at (Anglican) Silver level as well!! Was that the same as L5 Bible Sense Lexicon? I would hate Bible Sense Lexicon.

Strange comment.  Did you know you do not have to use a feature unless you want to?

Unix aproach to life seems to be to streamline everything. Maximal efficiency by limiting his exposure to things he doesn't like in logos.

Not using something he's paid for would violate that paradigm.

    L2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,

Joshua - I added the "Features Crossgrade" and the Chaplains package (note - my cost was less than yours, I already had the "Chaplains" package in LOGOS 5).  It got me all the datasets in LOGOS 6 and got me some books that were of more interest to me than some of the other packages with a minimal cost.  I am also looking at a small Baptist package before the sales end - but I am a Wesleyan (i.e. Methodist) and would not want to ruin my reputation.

The "Extended Upgrade" had too many Greek and Hebrew resources that I would not use as a pastor/chaplain of a small group of senior citizens.  I started seminary 40 years ago and have forgotten most of the Greek and Hebrew I did know.  As for languages, I would get more use out of resources in Java, Python, or C++ having taught Computer Science for most of my career. [:)]

Good luck on making your choices.

Thanks Mr. Johnson...I wonder what your seniors would think of all those datasets?  I tried to speak with sales but I think they gave up on me.

Even a Cross Feature upgrade for me would cost ~$175.  I too do not need in-depth Greek and Hebrew resources (all those Bibles we get in earlier packages I will never get to read as I do not know or study Greek or Hebrew assuming Logos could help me if I needed to double-click something for further word studies, etc)

Maybe I will wait for the free core upgrade and silently read all those posts in here until then.

I find the Chaplain's resources very useful and geared for us commoners.

God willing I will use my Christmas bonus from work on the Chaplain's library one day (unless of course Jesus comes back before I make sense of all these packages and variants or some compassionate wealthy soul alerts Logos they want to pay them for a Silver Baptist 6.0 with Feature Crossgrade upgrade for me, though lets face facts, the underlined part will happen first.)

p.s. Note to wealthy giving upgrader out there....I am blessed to own Silver 5.0 currently. [G]  Syrian refugees, African nations devastated by Ebola, Those on any Christian missionary frontlines, and the Homeless/hungry need the help more than I do - in all humility though.

JoshinRI, you never "lose" anything - it is yours forever. I HAVE the chaplain's library and I think it is a very nice package. I currently have the Portfolio, but a while back, right after it was initially offered, I went ahead and purchased CHAPLAIN'S. The reason I got CHAPLAIN'S is because of the huge depth of professional counseling resources offered with this package that would cost a small fortune if I purchased them separately. As a pastor, chaplain, or elder, deacon, church leader, etc., one has to have these types of resources available to them when they are called upon to provide advice or counsel in this day and age. Of course, one still needs prayer. Nevertheless, when counseling, one needs resources that are provided in the CHAPLAIN'S package.

Do you mean seniors by age? In my experiences, seniors have more time to learn the ins-and-outs of the datasets. And you really wouldn't want to know the number of MVP's in the senior category [:P]

Yes. I am a senior. No I do not read Greek or Hebrew. But I can tell you considerably more about Central Asian Christian documents than you care to know. [;)]
