Sophocles Collection Comparison

I know there have been several discussion regarding the Sophocles Collection, but I was not able to find one that discussed the relative merits of having this versus some of the other Greek resources in my library; BDAG, LSJ, and others.

What would be the specific value of the content in Sophocles?

Others on the forum are more knowledgable than me. But in the period that followed the early-early church (apostolic fathers/NT), the language broke out into latin and greek. It's the latter that Sophicles deals with most (Byzantine greek). So, if you do much work for the church fathers that wrote in greek, you will enjoy this lexicon.

But in general, certainly BDAG and LSJ for earlier is perfectly fine.

Now, if we can get more depth on the latin side of the house; I'm hoping L7 will be the winner there (interlinears, BWS, etc).

Thanks. I saw in another recent thread where a user noticed they already had the lexicon portion of the Sophocles bundle in their library. I did a quick check and noticed that it was already in my library as well. Seems kind of odd how that works. Regardless, I guess the question is whether I want the other three volumes in the set.

I am in for Sophocles and am looking forward to its release later this month, precisely for its coverage of the nuances of Byzantine Greek. I have BADG and LSJ and very useful they are too.

Now, without trying to hi-jack the thread …

Since Lewis & Short was released by Logos in April, I am quite happy, so far, with its coverage of ecclesiastical and mediaeval Latin. I have used the print version for many years and find having it in Logos very useful.

Very true, Alan. L&S (sounds like a cafeteria in Texas) is excellent. I was referring, not too clearly, to the Logos toolset (since my latin never really got started).

Steve, I got caught on your text and missed your thread title. I don't know what the dynamic price is (since you have Sophicles lexicon), but the one that I'd go for is https://www.logos.com/product/8513/e-a-sophocles-collection#003 (the verb list). I don't doubt there's probably more modern versions (since Sophicles is before some of the major papyri finds). But I always like to have lists that stretch going back to the classics. Especially with the Logos search.
