Series name and Authors name for commentaries in passage guide
Is it possible to get the name of the commentary series in passage guide without manually changing the titles on every resource? When you have a lot of commentaries it is not easy to see which commentary is listed. A screenshot of my passage guide illustrates my point:
I don't like the thought of messing up the original titles. That's why I have been reluctant to change the titles (And that would also be a lot of work).
I would like to have the possibility to customize the list with Series, Author, and Title. Is that possible?
I know that more information pops up when you hover the cursor over the tile.

No its not possible but it is a reasonable suggestion.
BTW your screen shot did not come through. I assume you know to use the paper clip icon not just copy & paste?

I understand that it is not possible to show series and author in the passage guide.

I don't particularly find it a problem
I have created a custom Passage Guide with commentaries in different sections and this gives me enough separation for me to work with - not easily being able to see the series title etc isn't an issue for me but appreciate it will be for others.

My approach is similar to Graham's ... a little difference in how I categorize my commentaries

The ways I try and minimise the problem this sometimes causes is:
- Prioritise my series so the series I like most come first.
- Create separate sections for different commentary types (like Graham). (Get collection rules here.)
This way, I rarely, if ever, have to hunt through the list for a particular title/series. When I do, hovering over the titles makes this easier.

But still, I find it annoying that I am not able to see the series or authors in the list...
I think I saw in a screenshot you published that you had changed some of the titles (NICOT, Ancient Christin Commentary on Scripture). Is that correct? Are you not afraid to mess up in your library?

I checked, and I've changed a very small number of titles in my library (including NICOT/NICNT, but not ACCS), usually to add series information as you say. To be honest, I'd forgotten that I'd done it, as I must have done it years ago when I first bought NICNT/NICOT.
I'm not worried about messing up my library, as I'm only making small changes. And, if you delete a custom title, Logos will replace it with the official title.
I don't change many titles, because lots of commentaries have titles or subtitles that I've learned to associate with that series. For example, I know that commentaries that say "An Introduction and Commentary" are part of the Tyndale series, commentaries that say "The Message of xxx" are part of the Bible Speaks Today series, and commentaries that say "a critical and exegetical commentary" are part of ICC.

I organize my commentaries a little differently from Mark and Graham. I gave them all star ratings and then created collections: Primary—5, secondary—4, tertiary—3, Don't bother—1. Most of my primary group would also be technical under Mark's system.
I do agree with your original idea, however, especially as related to authors' names.

I do a combination of all the above. I prioritize and have collections, ratings, and tags, but I also add a "Tyndale: " or a "NICOT: " or whatever to the front of each title to make quick identification easier.
I don't find that it messes up the library...quite the opposite in fact. For one, I'm not generally deleting information from the title, except where I'm shortening it (i.e. I shorten "The Pillar New Testament Commentary: " to "Pillar: "). Secondly, by putting a short title or abbreviation at the front of each series title, it organizes the titles in the library so that series are always grouped together. It makes a nice presentation, especially in cover view.
Did it take some time and work? Yes, but so did prioritizing, tagging, and creating collections. I believe it was time well spent and after doing the initial work, keeping it up-to-date when new resources are purchased doesn't take much time at all.

Thanks for sharing, Ron. I can see that this could be a good solution as long as the option is missing in the program. Maybe I just have to do the work...
But this is not a solution when it comes to authors of individual volumes. I would like Logos to implement this in the program.

Definitely...it would be nice to be able to minimize some of the manual organization and "bookkeeping"

I have now changed the titles of some of the commentary sets that did not have the name of the series in the book titles, by adding "NICOT:" or "NICNT:". That solved the challenge with series name (for authors name I think I have to wait for changed Logos functionality), and my passage guide is easier to read.

I like that the set is grouped together in the library. That also happens on the iPad/iPhone app. Helpful!
But the new titles does not show up in the passage guide on the iPad/iPhone app. The original titles appear in the passage guide, but when you open the resource the new title shows up. Someone that could explain this?

The guide runs on Logos' servers and then is piped to your phone. I guess it would be too complex to take into account personalised titles. (The mobile PG doesn't take prioritisation into account either, which is even more frustrating.)

You keep your custom title.
Let's imagine a resource is called Commentary with no series and an anoying typo. You update the title to Series: Commentary without annoying typo. Later, Logos then correct the typo, and add a subtitle with a metadata update.
You'll receive the new subtitle, but retain your custom title. If, in the future, you delete you custom title, it will revert to the current Logos title (without the typo).

This is really, really great news. I had similarly avoiding using the mobile PG for this very reason. I am very glad it has been fixed (even though I was utterly unaware of this until just now [:$] ).

I had always wondered about that as well, but had never asked. I had just assumed that there was still some sync v.2 stuff to be implemented.

Actually, as far as I can tell, the iPad app still doesn't respect advanced prioritization limits. It does account for priorities aside from that however.
