Search queries and sections

I just watched a video about inline search and they showed someone's (on this forum) query to show an example of the search power.

{Speaker <Person Jesus>} WITHIN {Section <LiteraryType Quotation, Old Testament>}. This will show every instance where Jesus quoted the OT.

First, I get zero results with this searching in my Bible. Can anyone point to what I did wrong?

Second, the power sparked my curiosity. I want to learn more on all the sections and other query operators. I'm aware of the the standard search operators like AND, WITHIN, OR, nesting, etc. I'm referring to sections like what's in this search query. Apparently there's a lot more power than the search help indicates.

Third, does anyone know if there's a way to restrict inline search to show only results from a given range of the book? For example, this week I have to read the first four chapters of Augustine's De Trinitate (On The Trinity). It's a very big writing so I only want to search for the terms related to this weeks reading assignment.

The string you quoted is correct.

    Couple of questions:

    • Are you sure you are using exactly that string in the search?
    • In which Bible are you doing the search?

There is some work going on to document some of these - one example is the Logos 6 section of https://wiki.logos.com/Search_HELP (please note this is work in progress)

Sorry but I don't know of any way (inline search or regular search) of restricting the range for non-Bible books.

To get Literary Type data you need a Logos 6 Bronze/Verbum Study or higher package, and If you previously didn't have Logos 5 Silver or higher you now need Logos 6 Silver. Alternatively the Logos 6 Feature or Extended Crossgrade will give you all you need.

Then you need to run the search on a Reverse Interlinear bible.

I'm using the string exactly as displayed here. I just copied it from this post and pasted it into a search of the following bibles, with these results/hits:

    RSV2CE       0
    RSVCE     112
    NRSV       169
    NABRE         0
    ESV          100
    KJV 1900   169
    LEB           111

How odd is that? Especially the 2 top ones which are essentially the same Bible with only a few language tweaks. All I did was repeatedly paste the string I copied from this post into the search box of each Bible.

I own Capstone 6, the highest Catholic edition, equivalent to the highest non-Catholic edition.

Thanks a lot for the link to the info on search queries. Just looked at it. It has a LOT of great info on query operators and sections. Excellent. Appreciate all this help. Happy Thanksgiving, and praise the Lord of all good gifts!

The search only works in (most) Reverse Interlinear bibles.

The two for which you get zero results don't have the necessary reverse Imterlinear capability.

The significantly different results in the others suggest different levels of tagging but I'm not at my computer at the moment to check

Thanks, Dave. I'll give that a try. They should say that in the video demo.

Until quite recently you would have gotten 0 on the top 2 as the RI on the Catholic edition is quite new.[:)] But yes, a reverse interlinear is required for many of the specialized Bible searches.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."
