Not sure how I end up being the first to respond to many of your posts, but there it is. I also hesitate to be first because I'm sure you want upbeat, forward-looking ideas. Sorry...decidedly retrograde here. (Ah. good...others snuck in while I was typing.)

Despite Bradley's "It is finished!" pronouncement for notes, I don't see what I'm looking for. Granted, I don't have L6 yet, and I will certainly take a look when I have the chance, but I'm pretty sure the things I want aren't baked into the pie. And User Voice is broken for me--has been for a while. On top of that, I also realize I am beating a very dead horse...even the flies have flown the coop. You've already shot down most of the things I find critical for daily use. But I will go ahead and take the time to screenshot as many of the issues and reasons for them as I can one last time. But it will have to wait until tomorrow, it's too late tonight.

I will say this. While there are a few nifty things you have come out with since L3, I would permanently trade every single feature and data set and search option Logos has created since then in order to get notes to work like they do in L3 (with some minor additional tweaks thrown in). I realize I can't say that notes are more important than search ability, since search abilities generate note fodder, but at least for me, not having a highly utilitarian note function makes the search function nearly worthless. I will attempt to show why and how L3 gets the job done so well tomorrow.

You are probably right ... but I'm not feeling terribly generous at the moment. If a user doesn't care enough to use uservoice, should their voice count for much? I say that as someone who encouraged uservoice because I saw it used well with a different company. I use it when I care intensely about a feature; I ignore it when I don't have an axe to grind. At the moment not all my votes are used because I am deliberately thinking I have no particular vested interests and my votes would be split among several worthy suggestions based upon my whim of the day ... I'd rather not vote.

I agrree with your sentiments, but I, for one, care passionately about Logos wanting it to become the best software and best user experience to enable users to study God's Word and makle preparation of sermons, personal and academic study as easy as possible.

However, I stopped using UserVoice as it was clear that it was not being used by Logos employees. (evidence: rare comment from employees / very little marked as started and a few comments explaining why they won't be doing them - over the last 3 years).

However, I was heartened by Bob's emboldened statement that they are now going to start using it again.

I would like to see evidence for this by Logos putting a 'started' for (say) the top 10 user requests! [I still don't have the confdence yet that that will actually happen - if it doesn't then I still have to wonder whether they really want customers opinions!]

I would then hope after the first 10 are implemented, they then move on to the next 10, and so on! That would show real commitment to 'User Voice'.

You are probably right ... but I'm not feeling terribly generous at the moment.

I am not (only) talking about generosity. I think there are serious users with serious opinion worth listening to, that are just not aware of the existence of uservoice. I, for one, accidentally ran into it while roaming the forums, but if I weren't into reading forumposts I'd never have known of its existence...

So a one time promotion could increase the amount of users at uservoice and a bigger group of users attracts more users, and (probably) more attention from Logos. So uservoice would actually be a more interesting place for your thoughts than the forums (because at the moment I would launch an idea at the forums and not at uservoice).

I've mentioned it in previous forums and on user voice but since you asked I guess I can re-post it here (I thought Ask the Author was going to fill this need but as far as I can tell it only provides a way to dialogue with the author and doesn't give me the information I'm looking for):

Almost every reference book I buy has a brief author bio on either the back cover or inner jacket. This info may contain the titles of other books written by the author, their education, hobbies, etc. This info is especially helpful when reading a work by an author you aren't familiar with. I assume that almost every book Logos publishes (at least that's been written in the last 50 years or so) would have this excerpt.

Why not include it as a section in the Resource Information window for each book? For older works you could have a general bio for well known authors like Plato, Anselm, etc. This would be especially helpful as I read through things like commentaries which have different volumes written by different authors. Some authors I know, some I don't. I'd like to be able to read the same bio I can see on the back of the print edition.

On most of the product pages I look at I can see that Logos already has this author information. It usually appears in the "About" section on the product page when you are ordering a new book. (For example, scroll to the bottom of this page to read about author Wayne Grudem.)

The information is already there and Logos already has it, I'd just like to see that same information applied to the resource information window in my resources. In my personal opinion that would be more helpful than say "Search Fields" and "Indexes" which already appear there (at least for non-power users.)

I don't think that my suggestion should be on user voice because it has already been planned (or at least discussed) by Faithlife. But I would love to see the PBB store that was at one time in the rumor mill implemented.

1. A super-intelligent and super-intuitive unified Search box that will understand what I'm looking for in plain English, and decide for me what type of search (Basic, Bible, Everything, Morph, etc) will best satisfy what answer the user is looking for. Basically a super-Fuzzy search on steroids, as smart as Google search. Maybe even combine the generic Search box with the Command box (relax the strict syntax needed for the Command box to recognize more human language-like commands) e.g "stop receiving beta updates" "open my top 3 bibles to Jn 3:16" "define ectypal" "what are the Greek words that translate to love in English" "what's an omer". In other words, build a Google-style single search box for the non-technical lay user to direct them to the right resources, guides, tools that are currently powerfully built into Logos 6 but are overwhelming and daunting to discover, learn, and use effectively.

2. Make the Windows desktop app as touch friendly as the iOS apps, especially fix scrolling problems and make highlighting as easy and intuitive with finger without a mouse or stylus. (I hope this will be in the 6.x roadmap and we don't have to wait till Logos 7).

3. Massively migrate useful new features from Logos 6 to the mobile apps And make the mobile apps more functional offline.

4. Rethink the Faithlife Groups platform and make it more useful to yhe broader Logos user base beyond the minority who currently use it for private small Bible study groups. Thinking along he lines of the YouVersion / Facebook worldwide connectivity paradigm rather than the church small group usage.

5. Radical rethink of the constant download / reindexing paradigm. I know I can turn off automatic downloads but can the reindexing be rethought through so that it happens so quickly (a few seconds) for most machines in most cases (e.g. after downloading a couple of Vyrso books) that it can simply be done in the background without notifying the user or slowing down the machine.

Yes, I think the latin support should be 'next'. In my quest to reduce the massive update downloading, I deleted my english Perseus, and kept the greek and latin texts, the latter with the assumption Logos would eventually get around to it (if not already). Even yesterday, in the Muratorian book, they were referencing the old latin texts.

Relative to MJ's comment about using UserVoice, I've used it maybe once for something fgh wanted. Maybe it works for Logos. My thinking is that their development should follow their strategies. In the latin example, if it plugs into Noet or Verbum sufficiently (market growth), then there's the answer. If their observations on L3 were correct (many features not used), then I'd also wonder about the actual user base ... what do they actually use?

I think many of 'us' have mentioned a more easy-to-use version (or same engine, just thin it down) for entry level in the churches, but that will never happen.

Most of my whining hasn't been on new features (I'm coming around on Sense Lexicon), but implementation of 'fixes'. I still don't understand how the designer(s) think. Sort of 'our way or the highway ... options just cause a lot of phone calls'. The iOS scroll option was just the opposite, this week. Refreshing.

Anyway, I'm not a good source. I'm still on L5 and of course .... Libby!!

We already support 95+ 'canonical referencing schemes' that are book independent, like Bible verses, references to Shakespeare, Dead Sea Scrolls, Josephus, Philo, etc.

Do you just want more / better tagging with these, or are there some schemes we're missing?

(Dramatically improved 'biblio' links -- from bibliographies to editions of the resource in our library or on the web -- are planned for the future. We're working on that now.)

I'm sorry it looks this way -- it actually gets a lot of attention, and I think Logos 6 shows that we were reading it closely. (Unfortunately 400 million notes suggestions were wrapped up in one entry, and so a huge amount of work went into knocking off just one UserVoice item... ;-) )

We may need to upgrade our account so that more than one person can give official answers. Right now you'll see many of the top items do have some feedback; the ones that don't are because we don't have a plan yet, but are continuing to monitor the item to gauge user interest. (We really don't see how/why to import/export notes to EverNote, for example. It seems like a massive amount of complexity, given he inherent difficulties of sync and the fact that EverNote doesn't feature attachment points like we do, which means it would be incredibly fragile /e asy to break a Logos note by editing in EverNote. But it has lots of votes so we keep watching it.)

Exegetical Guide Improvements:

If a Lexicon lists a certain definition for a certain passage, have that definition listed as a link or highlighted in the exegetical guide.

For Example Romans 1:20 the word world (kosmos) is listed under the defination orderly universe in BDAG. Show the link in the exegetical guide to that passage in BDAG.

It would also be nice to have a compare all lexicons in context. Sort of like a sense lexicon for all lexicons. I know that all passages are not listed in the lexicons but if a certain passage is listed have that definition show up in the Exegetical Guide.

I run Logos on a Macbook Pro 2.3 GHz i5 with 16 GB RAM and SSD drive. Logos is the only thing I run on this machine that I would characterize as really slow. Really slow.

Integrate Vyrso in the accounting loop. I use credits to keep from having a large number of small charges. It works well with the Logos site, but all Vyrso transactions charge my credit card regardless of whether I have credit.

Here are some ideas.

Information Pane

I would like to see a pretty major overhaul of the information pane. Here are the more important ones:

The “definition” feature should have the option to show the glosses from the “Lemma” section of the Bible Word Study Guide of the dictionary you have chosen defines the terms. Currently it just shows the beginning of the definition as it appears in the dictionary, which in most cases is useless, as you can’t actually see the definition. This is especially the case with Hebrew lexicons, which tend to begin each definition with information etymology and related ANE words. Note that this is different from the already present option to show a "Gloss", as that Gloss is not taken from your highest prioritized lexicon.
For Hebrew verbs summary information (again, according to the dictionary you chose) should include brief definitions for the Qal, Piel, Hiphil, etc. forms, indicating QAL: definition; PIEL: definition, etc. For a great example of what I'm talking about, cf. BibleWorks.
I would like to choose the order of elements in the information pane. For example, I like having the “Translated” section, but don’t want it to be on top.
Let me turn off the “Clause” database information in the Information pane.
I would like to see “root” information in the information pane (i.e., a brief summary of the root(s), with the words from that root and their glosses).
Please give an option in Hebrew to stop looking up attached definite articles, prepositions, pronouns, etc. Logos already knows which word is the primary word, because when you double click on a word with attached articles, prepositions or pronouns it always looks up the main word. I don’t EVER want to see attached definite articles, prepositions, or pronouns in the information pane, they just make it so that you can’t actually see the definition and information you are interested in.
Add Syriac as a supported language for the Info pane!

Each Lemma should have a column which says how many times that Lemma appears in the OT / NT respectively. If you want to, make it personalized for every version (e.g. NA27, NA28, , or just pick one version and go with it (such as the NA28 and BHS), but this information has to be there for this option to be useful.
It should be easy to filter by how many times the Lemma appears (for example, if I know that I have memorized all the words in the NT that appear 25x or more, and now I am studying Luke chapter 10, I should easily be able to filter the vocabulary of Luke 10 by words that appear in the NT 24x or fewer).
Each lemma should include the form that is actually studied in universities. For example, the form that is learned of the word λογος is λογος, ου (well… with the accents added in), with the nominative and genitive forms both included, the genitive form being shortened. Similarly, adjectives are learned with the nominative masculine, feminine, and neuter form. Verbs in Hebrew are learned (at least optionally) with the more common of the QAL, PIEL, HIPHIL, etc. definitions, while verbs in Greek (at least optionally for the more common irregular verbs) should include the 6 principle parts.

Search

Most importantly, create an advanced search builder. I would imagine this working with "columns" that are connected by search operators like AND / OR / WITHIN, etc. Each column could begin with a dropdown that lets you choose the type of info (text, Milestone, PassageList, Morph, Clause, greek word, hebrew word, etc.). After choosing from the dropdown, depending on the option chosen, other boxes would appear to the right that would correspond to the options of that particular option / search extension.
Create search extensions for Morph and Clause to make this possible.
New search operator, “IGNORE” – Recently I wrote a 250+ page index of the Liturgy of the Hours, Roman Missal, etc., using Logos to run searches. I oftentimes found that I wanted to exclude certain phrases from my search… phrases that included words that I was searching for! For example, I am searching for the term “Christ” but I want to exclude the common phrase “Christ Our Lord”. If I run the search for Christ ANDNOT “Christ Our Lord” it would ruin my search results. I might have 100 hits for “Christ” in an article, but with just 1 “Christ our Lord” hit that entire article would disappear, along with the 100 true hits that I was interested in. What I would like to see is an operator that allows me to “IGNORE” the hits for “Christ Our Lord”, without disqualifying an article that has those hits. Note that this problem does not normally arise when searching the Bible, as the biblical verse are so short that ANDNOT almost never is problematic. But once Logos is used to start systematically searching resources with longer articles this “IGNORE” feature becomes important.
An easier way to include accents in searching (could be taken care of in an advanced search builder).
After running a search, you can navigate through the search results by pressing Alt+Down or by clicking the up and down arrows, having selected “Search Result” from the dropdown on the locator bar. When you navigate to the next search hit, Logos scrolls the resource so that the search hit is on the top line of the screen. This does not allow you to see any context of the search result. I would like Logos to navigate instead to the hit result, but with about 2 lines of text above it. (Note: as I have been creating the book “Fulfilled in Christ” I have gone through literally 100s of thousands of search results using this method. I can’t tell you how many thousands of times I have had to scroll up just to see a line or two of text about the search hit and see what it was saying)

Universal Passage Guide

The Passage Guide is limited to just the Bible. We need a universal Passage Guide, that doesn't care if you are searching in the Bible or elsewhere. Think Noet, just make sure the new features for Noet make it into Logos and Verbum!

Cited By Tool

This is already a mini-universal Passage Guide. Hopefully this will be done before Logos 7, but this tool needs a major overhall. This has already been discussed so much on here I don't think I need to go into details.

Bible Words Study Guide

Link Set – I want to be able to add the Bible Word Study Guide to a link set. The reason is very simple. I find the “root” report of the BWS to be extremely useful for understanding the semantic range of a word. I have created a custom BWS with only the root report. I would like to add that BWS to a link set together with my Hebrew / Greek dictionaries. When I double click on a word, the dictionary navigates to it, and so would the BWS root report if it could be linked to the dictionary.
Send Hyperlinks Here – When I right click on a word and generate a BWS, normally I want it to generate in the same BWS window I already have open. I want to be able to indicate that with the “Send hyperlinks here” option on the BWS, so as to avoid having to close every BWS window I open.

Scientific Commentaries and Link Sets

Anyone who tries to use scientific commentaries such as Word or Anchor or Hermeneia together with a “Link Set” in Logos quickly gets quite frustrated. There are numerous comments about this all over the forums. The reason is that the scientific commentaries comment the same passage in three or four different places – first they present a translation, then they comment the textual criticism problems, then they comment on the structure, then they comment on the meaning, etc. The “Link Set” tends to navigate to the first of these, which is oftentimes (maybe even normally) not what you are interested in…

I suggest that you create a dataset that marks up the different types of sections in the Commentary, and then, when multiple types of sections are available, allow us to prioritize those sections, so that the Link Set will go to the "Notes" section by default, or the "Textual Criticism" section, or whatever section we prefer.

Print / Export

When selecting the options to export to Word, include footnotes when they are displayed in Logos.

Copy and Paste

Add the “Setting” to “Copy Abbreviations” (or simply stop copying them when copying and pasting with the setting “Copy Footnotes”) – It is extremely irritating when copying scientific words that you copy into Word and you have, in addition to the footnotes which you wanted to copy, a repeating list of about 20 abbreviations per page, each one taking up one line as if they were footnotes!!

Address bar of Greek and Hebrew Dictionaries

When typing in the address bar of Greek and Hebrew Dictionaries, it should transliterate by default for you into the respective language. Ideally it would search for both the transliterated and the non-transliterated results, so that you could type in something like “Introduction” and it would find it, but you could also type in something like “dbr” and it would find דבר. Note that currently not even typing h: or g: works!! You have to actually change your keyboard layout to type in a word in the address bar of a Hebrew or Greek dictionary!

New Tab

The improvements in 5.2 of the New Tab are nice. I suggest that above the icons which display your favorite resources, or above the list of similar resources, there by a little text box. When you begin typing it in, it begins filtering your Library + all other things you might want to open (like search pane, information pane, etc.).

Library Columns

I would like to see the original date of publication of every work, and be able to easily filter, create collections by it, etc. Useful for creating collections of Church Fathers, Medieval Writings, Commentaries from 1900-1950, Commentaries from 1950-Present Day, etc. I am particularly interested in the date the original work was originally published, but it would be nice to also see the date that the particular edition was also published (current publishing date indicates the date the reprint was published).

Free Books inside of Books and Articles inside of Journals

I would like to see books which are inside of books (such as the books which are inside of Schaff's Church Father Series) treated as books. Logos should know that such and such a book is inside of a larger book, and that info should be available for citation purposes, but for things like creating collections, search results, etc., it would be MUCH more useful to normally just see the book. For example, if I want to create a collection of books by "Justin Martyr" that is impossible currently, because his works are included in Schaff's volumes together with other works.

Similarly, for articles normally what one is interested in is the article, the author, etc. Treating the article as a seperate book (with the info about the journal of course also available, even for the purpose of creating collections, etc.), would allow one to create a collection of articles by a certain author, etc.

Search results would also become much more relevant. Try running searches on Schaff's Church Father series. The results are something like "Chapter 3 from NPNFFE2". Totally irrelevant and not helpful. If the books were treated as real books, you would get results like "Chapter 2 of City of God by Augustine" etc.

So many Bibles in these languages are morphologically tagged, but for whatever reason don't have the Glosses included, so you have to have the Info pane open. Add Glosses to all morph tagged Bibles.

Redesigned Guides and Files Menu

The "New" document or Guide should ideally just filter the right hand pane, which could include folders. Then, the right hand pane would offer contextually relevant options, based on the type of document or guide selected. So, a Passage List selection would offer the possibility to select a passage list in the right hand pane, and then run a search for it - allowing Logos to show off all these fancy new features.

Morphology Charts

These are a great idea, that I have long hoped for, but which I think were poorly implemented. They should display the Morph chart according to the standard textbook format (which would put, for example, the Nominative, Genitive, Dative, Accusative, and Vocative in a single column, and not in a single row). As well, they should indicate the "type" of morphological "pattern" that such and such a word follows, with a link to seeing that pattern with a word that is typically used by textbooks to illustrate the pattern.

Maps

Add data layers, such as altitude, cities, etc. that can be turned on or off.

Ideally include a 3D view.

Allow exporting custom maps

Online Media

All online media should have local resources with the thumbnails and metadata, to allow for integrated and quick searching and browsing. They should be placeholders for the downloadable media. When feasible, they should include low res versions for offline use. From a user interface point of view, it should be transparent to the user whether the image they are interacting with is online or offline, even if that difference is somehow indicated visually, or with different options, etc.

Documentation of Academic Resources

The sources, authors, and methodology used in the creation of all inhouse resources should be clearly marked, and easily available. This has generally been well done in the new stuff you have been producing, but older resources need to have the same treatment. Here I am thinking of things like the Morph databases, and other older resources that have little or no documentation.

First, thanks for a great product. Second, I'm not a programmer, nor do I play one on TV. Third, I have been involved in the design of a few financial systems from a user standpoint. Perhaps what I'm about to say is in place, and I just don't see it. From my experience as a user, I know there were many times when we would ask for something (Logos UserVoice) and the programers would come back with one of 4 replies, (1) that feature is going to cost $$$$$, and I would reply, "its only worth $$ to me, so forget it, (2) you are asking for XX, have you considered doing YY instead, and I would, yes or no, (3) it just can't be done, or (4) here is your request.

I don't see this type of interaction. My concern is you may be spending too much time ($$$$$$$) on taking care of the squeaky wheels in the user community, when it may not be worth it for the rest of the user community, nor for your company. Just my thoughts.

In addition to the other PBB requests, a more robust PBB editor would be really helpful. The macros that I've borrowed from other users, as well as additional that I've made myself, have been very helpful for creating PBB's in Word. But I also know that Logos has the ability to pick out non-milestoned scripture references. So I picture an editor that automatically scans for potential milestones and makes suggestions, allowing users to create the best PBB available.

For example, if I'm working on importing a public domain commentary on Luke, I might "ask" the new, more robust PBB editor to find all references to passages in Luke, and allow me to select which ones to add milestone references to (and of course, I'd click "yes" or "no" and it would add the milestone automatically).

The PBB is such an important feature - especially for the few of us who are still saving just for the starter base package and have no realistic hope of purchasing something larger in the near future. (Though I do make several smaller purchases on a semi-frequent basis). I would really like to see time spent on it to make it more valuable.

This would be a high priority for me. The tool is virtually unusable for those like me who have a lot of collections. Make it easier to choose collections. The "Show collections" section on the panel menu (which only shows 6 at a time) is a major bottleneck, IMO. When you have a long list of them, it's impossible to efficiently find the ones you want to include, and "drag to change order" is a joke. It's also slow to display the panel menu.

I have assumed that Logos uses inverted indexes to allow for fast full-text searches. I have also assumed that each resource comes with its own forward index that has been pre-built and that only this forward index is being added to the local inverted index during the indexing process. In other words, I have assumed that each new resource is not being sequentially scanned to build a words/document file when this could be done at a one time cost on Logos servers. If this is not how it is currently being done, Logos is missing a major opportunity to improve performance.

Thank you for the opportunity to share these suggestions. I request Logos prioritize any update which would help reduce eye strain and benefit the healthy vision of its users. Such updates would include but not be limited to the following:

Logos 6:

Allow users the option of decreasing the brightness level and adjusting the color shade of any current Bible book cover icon. Several Bible cover icons that were recently changed for Logos 6 (especially the ESV and LEB) are now so bright they are preventing me from comfortably focusing on the Bible text and are causing eye strain. If it would be easier for Logos to accomplish, please simply restore all Bible icons that were recently changed back to their original Logos 5 appearance (design, color, and brightness level). A third option would be to allow users to hide or "turn off" Bible book cover icons when the resource is opened. (In addition to Bibles, there are several other resource icons to which this issue applies, but Bibles are a higher priority.)
Allow users the option of customizing the background color of individual resource panels and the font color that appears within them. In my opinion, the current “White” background color is uncomfortably bright. Among potential color options, I recommend various darker shades of white, a lighter shade of “Paper”, and a night mode with black background and green font.
Allow users to customize the background color within the pop-up window which appears when the mouse hovers over a cross reference within Bible text as well as the color, style, and size of the font used within the window. Also, please include the option of increasing the overall size of this window.
Allow users to customize the panel background color and font color, style, and size within the Power Lookup Tool.
Allow users to set a highlighter color of their choice to display Search engine results. I realize these highlights are intended to stand out within the text, but the current solid yellow/orange color is irritating for my eyes (especially when there are multiple hits in close proximity). This issue is most evident with Search results for the “Library Results” section within “Factbook” searches which highlight nearly the entire first paragraph of the article. This is visually overwhelming and in my opinion, unnecessary.
Allow users to set a highlighter color of their choice to display the “Links to Open Panels” visual filter. Currently this visual filter is defaulted to a solid dark pink color which at times can be visually overwhelming.
When using “Print/Export”, please allow users to increase or decrease the font size and customize the font style of any resource (especially Bibles). In Logos 5, I used Print/Export often to avoid hours of staring at a desktop computer screen. This feature also allowed me to get up and walk around while reading printed text rather than setting for prolonged periods; however, I am no longer able to do this because the default font size in Logos 6 is uncomfortably small for my eyes and is unable to be changed. Please also restore the option of adding Bible notes (literal renderings, alternate translations, or explanations), without cross references, to the footnotes section at the bottom of the printed page.
For the Copy Bible Verses tool, please allow users to add Bible notes without cross references to the footnotes section at the bottom of the page when exporting Bible chapters/passages to an MS Word document.

Logos Android App:

Please increase the font size for Bibles and all resources within the Logos Android App. I have attempted to use this app on my Samsung Galaxy S-4, but the font scale slider will only adjust the font from microscopic to tiny to small. The font would have to be significantly larger for this app to be of practical use for me. Also, please provide font style options and increase the page turning speed of all resources within this app.

Logos 7 Proposed Feature:

Please create an option to use a soft highlighter color of one’s choice which will highlight a particular Bible verse and scroll down (verse by verse) as one reads through the Bible. This verse highlighter would be controlled up or down by the keyboard arrow keys or the mouse wheel. (I have previously used this feature within WORDsearch and it significantly helped in reading text.)

I would really like it if Logos 40 could refill my cup with fresh, hot coffee whenever it empties (with a options for tea, cream, milk, sugar, sweetener in the settings). Also reading my thoughts (selectively) and arranging them neatly in paper format (with thesis statement, outline and SBL formatting) would be great. In fact a neural interface would be even better: think of something you want to do in Logos and it does it, without you having to remember syntax, commands and the likes. Something like the Star Trek computer or Jarvis in Ironman. Lastly, I want special 3D glasses and sensory gloves that take me into Atlases and infographics, allowing me to visit Israel, ancient lands and virtually manipulate ancient artifacts. Flashcards should also be upgraded for direct brain download [:D]

Logos crashes perhaps once per week for me, which is too much.

9: Improve Performance
Startup times of several minutes are too long, Logos seems to spend time synchronising my library every startup, then downloads and indexes. The orange circles that appear when navigating through a bible are very time-wasting in my workflow where I have a list of verses that I want to look up and copy – a couple of seconds each time to display orange circles is annoying. This also makes it slow to quickly move between passages if wanting to check something.

8: Improved Organisation of Library
Scrolling through a list of several thousand resources is almost impossible to do fruitfully. Collections help a little but I’d really like to see resources organised into expandable hierarchical folders like Windows Explorer that are put there by drag and drop. Ideally, this would be a view rather than a physical location so that I could have multiple logical organisations of resources (e.g. I might want to organise my commentaries by series, book, etc. There should be a way to choose the size of icon or list details much like windows explorer gives.

7: Improve Searching
Find better ways to get me the results I want and deprioritise those I don’t. Google seems to do a much better job at general searching with many more documents to cater for. LCV and the everything search are a good step forward but I’m concerned that they rely on Logos tagging and this may not be perfect. One thing in particular I would like is the automatic translation between British and American English in search so that, e.g. if I search for honour it would also find honor and vice versa.

6: Improvements to Android and Apple Apps
They are too difficult to use. I'd like to be able to read a bible with linked commentary easily or to read greek and have it look up in lexicons easily or show interlinears easily, much the same as in the desktop. Some of these are partly possible but don't work too well. I noticed that much less costly bible software can find things a lot quicker on mobile platforms.

A couple ideas would be:

1) A way to "lock" a panel so that Logos cannot automatically add any resources to it. Perhaps you have a library window or a set of Bibles that you don't want Logos adding more resources to, just click a "lock" button and Logos has to ignore them.

2) I am a user who has a separate highlight document for each resource I use. It would be nice to "tie" my highlight document to that resource so that I don't have to open the document each time I want to highlight in that resource.

Bible translations embedded in commentaries need to function like a full-fledged Bible translation re: highlighting, comparison, etc.
Commentaries in which have a multipart structure for each pericope, e.g. text, notes, commentary, need to be able to be open in multiple panes with the sections behaving as a link set; one should also have the option of tabbing through the sections.
Study/discussion questions should be tagged and have their own PG section
Prioritization should have sub-headings, a readable chart of how your priorities apply to the categories used in the program, and a quick way to view resources not prioritized.
Metadata should contain the primary translation used by the resource and one should be able to easily default to that translation
Metadata should indicate the tagging of the resource so that one can easily create collections of resource that do/don't appear in a tag-driver guide section

I am not sure I understand why it is so at times. For instance, to have a zillion 'resources' each corresponding to a single manuscript (usually one page) clutters the library list. Since we can duplicate resource tabs (and so put side by side different manuscripts from the same resource), I am not sure I understand what the idea/use is. This is all the more puzzling that this is not true of similar resources. Examples: targumic fragments, the biblical scrolls from Qumran and the text of the earliest New Testament Greek manuscripts.

There is seriously no reason why I should be forced to go to Google to find what verse in the Bible says something like "do not stop meeting together" as I had to the other day. Logos found no hits in all of my Bibles.

Google found it as the first hit.

That is just embarrassing, and unacceptable IMO. Logos is a Bible Search program par excellence. That it can't do this (especially when Logos 3 could) is beyond unbelievable to me. I unfortunately do not have a full installation of Libronix on my computer anymore with all my resources to test this, but if anyone who does would like to confirm that it could find this particular phrase, I'd be glad for extra support to my frustration. Anyway, even if Logos had never been able to do this in the past, I'd be frustrated that it can't.

I know you'll say "but Google has so many more employees and money to index so many pages, and this is such a hard problem, and we don't want to do it at all if we can't do it well [no wait, you wouldn't say that latter thing; that isn't usually how you operate [:)] ], and..." However you run a Bible software company and searching in the Bible is Logos's specialty. So no excuses anymore, OK? Just do it!

Francis, the only thing "search while typing" does for you is lets you get the results while you type instead of typing the whole search string, hitting Enter, and then getting the results. I never use search while typing because the Search speed is fast enough for me and I don't care to be distracted by partial results or slow things down before I've finished typing what I'm searching for.

The significant difference between what you searched for and what I searched for was that I searched for a quoted phrase and you searched for two words without quotes. Sometimes that can help instead of doing a fuzzy search. I'm not sure how you managed to find Heb 10:25 so quickly with it though, because in my case it finds too much to be useful. Maybe I have many more Bibles than you have:

I could remove the quotes from around the phrase I was searching for to open up more possibilities, but unfortunately it still finds nothing:

I know that Google does not do a fuzzy search. But the fact that I can find something I'm looking for in Google when I can't find it in Logos means I'm turning to Google more often when I ought to be able to stay in Logos to do such searches. And if Logos brought back its fuzzy search from L3 then I wouldn't have to resort to Google. I don't mind going to Google. I have my browser up and running all the time anyway. But it's just kind of silly that Logos can't do a search like this.

What "fuzzy search" in Logos 3 did was not what you're talking about with "search while typing". It was smart enough to try leaving out certain words if your memory was only approximate, use different word forms (which we do already have the ability to do, but sometimes that can find way too much), use synonyms of words in your search criteria, etc. So it was really good at nailing what you were thinking of if you could only come up with some approximation of it. Basically it could save you taking multiples stabs at the search, using lots of different possible word orders, spellings, synonyms, combinations of keywords, and weeding out extraneous hits that were not likely to be what you were looking for based on the percentage of keywords. I really don't know what algorithm it used, and I'm sure it could have been improved upon, and I understand that it would have to be entirely rewrittenn now for the post L4 engine days where they now use a different sort of index for searching. But still it was quite impressive how often it was able to find what I was looking for when I couldn't remember enough of the verse to do a better search for it myself, and I miss that. I feel that in L4, 5, 6, the user has to do more work to find what they're looking for. And the response when people complain that they can't find what they're looking for is usually something along the lines of "do a better job of constructing your search and you'll be able to find it." I simply want Logos to be smarter.

I know that Google does not do a fuzzy search. But the fact that I can find something I'm looking for in Google when I can't find it in Logos means I'm turning to Google more often when I ought to be able to stay in Logos to do such searches. And if Logos brought back its fuzzy search from L3 then I wouldn't have to resort to Google. I don't mind going to Google. I have my browser up and running all the time anyway. But it's just kind of silly that Logos can't do a search like this.

I have the same problem, and my reaction is the same - it's just silly. I remember a verse, but either don't have the wording exactly right, or don't remember which version I have memorized. Google almost always gives me what I want immediately, but Logos far too often doesn't.

The orange circles that appear when navigating through a bible are very time-wasting in my workflow where I have a list of verses that I want to look up and copy – a couple of seconds each time to display orange circles is annoying. This also makes it slow to quickly move between passages if wanting to check something.

These are called "Visual Cues" and can be turned off in the General section of Program Settings.

Suggestion: auto-prompt user to turn [luxury, bling...] feature off if it is timed at >x seconds.

Agree on Fuzzy search per Rosie's comment - I too go first to Google to search for phrases I may or may not exactly remember - whether it's Bible or a non-Bible resource.

I mention phrases etc. outside of the Bible - for me recently, I was trying to remember which saint prayed something to God like, "If this is how you treat your friends, it's no wonder you have so few of them". It would be a very useful reference for a homily - yet I couldn't remember.

So I go to Verbum:

Verbum gave me SO MANY hits, but none of them helpful. And I don't think any quotes would have helped, as it was not an exact search. I just didn't know what to do with this!

So then I went to Google - you see the difference - so easy! I also get some info to read to support the quote too.

I also laugh thinking about how I go to Google for search instead of Logos/Verbum for search, what is wrong with this picture. Topic search is very nice and useful but it is NOT fuzzy search.

By the way, if you search "if this is how you treat your friends it's no wonder you have so few of them" with the quotes, you get 0 hits in Verbum.

I also second Fr. Roza's idea of a preacher's toolbox and better clipping tool, I would add Notes too. I use Notes exactly for this - to grab, categorize, and "file" interesting thoughts that I would never think to search for again. I would then be able to easily search there and find things, but that is very hard to do in Notes of course because it does not highlight search results, which is another absurd thing in a software program that specializes in search. If Notes, Clippings, and other tools had better ways to manage and organize information we want to get back to it would be a great supplement to the resources and engine Logos offers today.

Not funny. I joined Logos at v4 and upgraded to 5 and 6 immediately they were released. After my experience of upgrading to L6 (blame it on Apple etc), I will not be upgrading to L7 for at leat 6 months to a year after its release.

Since you like to sell packages and addons lately - why not a very inexpensive mix of useful commentaries - call it Baptist Bible/Commentary or something. I predict it would sell like hotcakes. I haven't checked how its geared or authored yet but the OPENING UP series I used for Luke last night in Bible study was really a blessing.

I continue to feel that Logos is not gearing things for us...well...lowbrow still-getting-educated types. You would all clean up with a set of background commentaries and real simple expositional commentaries. Partner inexpensively with those writing them please. Better yet saddle up to Zondervan and please get the Ilustrated Background Commentary reduced in cost so more people can buy and use it please.

Sermon starter needs work too....most of us do NOT want/need to do topical sermons and this feature seems to assume we do. Please imagine a first time seminarian getting up in the pulpit when you redesign this feature please.

You can actually get rid of most of the adverts on the Home Page by clicking on the wheel on the top right corner of the Home Page (next to the update information). Most adverts tell you where they come from (things like My Logos Messages) and you can uncheck these. These were a feature of the L5 Home Page as well. You can also check here to get devotionals displayed on the Home Page and "From Your Library" extracts so I think all the things you are asking for on the Home Page are actually already available in L6 simply by tweaking the settings. It is possible more of them are "on" by default on theL6 Home Page but I am certainly not seeing any more advertising on L6 than I did on L5.

Also, the sort of commentary series you are asking for are already available - as well as the "Opening up ..." series, the Bible Speaks Today and the Tyndale commentaries would be good examples, as would Tom Wright and John Goldingay's "For Everyone" commentaries (in fact, I am not sure I'd necessarily regard them as commentaries). Maybe they should be incorporated into Base Packages or bundles (in fact I think BST is in one of the Anglican BPs). BST comes up on sales at various times at very good prices. The two IVP background commentaries also fill the gap you are talking about - the New Testament one is currently on sale at over 30% off. In fact the IVP Essential Reference Collection is something I used before I had any theological education, but still find useful now.

I'd love to see a worship elements feature that would aid in worship planning. Although we don't use Proclaim, I'd expect this to be tightly integrated with it, but be located in the Logos environment and take advantage of Logos resources.

More teaching material? A cuneiform word processor? Scanned images of original manuscripts? Manual categorization of theologians?

The answer to all of those questions from me is "No."

Bible words tagged by emotive impact?

Could be interesting, depending on how "emotive impact" is defined and tagged. I suppose this would have to be done with respect to original language texts, and original cultural setting, rather than translations, since too often the emotive impact is lost in translation, or added by the translation. I would hope that many of the parables of Jesus would include "humor" as the emotive impact. But this gets complicated very quickly by both linguistic and cultural differences. It would almost become a kind of Bible background commentary, or rely heavily upon them.

In addition to what you brought up:

I'd love to see what you did with Psalms and Proverbs extended to Isaiah (for starters), and other poetic Biblical literature.

I would love to see the Topical stuff in all the guides be able to handle synonyms, and group by synonymous meaning. IMHO, I find the topical stuff to be the least helpful of all the stuff in the guides.

I would love to see Logos develop a base package or robust collection of material on Christian social justice, as well as something that targets some of the other remaining, as yet under-served streams of Christianity (Mennonites, e.g.).

I would love to see Logos develop a library management system that would allow us to manage our libraries in ways that parallel academic libraries (i.e., Library of Congress catalog system, Dewey Decimal, etc.). This would mean tagging all resources with these cataloging features, or developing an easy way for users to do so (based on downloadable, or cloud-based catalogs?).

[I did not read every post on this thread before posting this. So, if there is overlap, or a better way of stating some of these things, I defer.]

Good suggestion! I was thinking about this as well. Perhaps something like a "Biblical Poetry Explorer." There are substantial sections of poetry embedded even in the Torah and the Former Prophets / historical books (e.g., Gen 49; Exod 15; Num 23, 24; Deut 32, 33; Judges 5; 1 Sam 2; 2 Sam 1, 22, 23). There are many short poetical passages as well (e.g., Gen 2:23; 4:23–24; 9:25–27; Gen 27:27–29).

On a related note, although in some cases it may be too much to ask, it would be great to have some of these data sets and "interactive media" tools integrated together better so that they could be easily viewed, used, or accessed (by toggling between them or any other means) from the same biblical text (e.g., discourse databases, propositional outlines, psalms/proverbs explorers, along w/ other tagging, etc.). I don't necessarily mean displaying all that data at one time because obviously many data sets and tools may be focused on different aspects, features, or levels of the text, which may make such integration impractical and undesirable. I do hope, however, that the content team continues to keep integration in mind with respect to content, tools, and the user-interface—just as they have done so well with many data sets and features already. That said, if better integration meant not having, for example, the Psalms Explorer, I would sacrifice better integration (e.g., displaying morphology, sense data, etc.).

Logos is a high-powered piece of software. And I am not a total idiot, usually. But I am still only using a fraction of the capabilities of the program.

I think Logos should pay someone "like" Morris Proctor to do Morris-Proctor level videos for free. We've already invested so much in the program.

I agree with Adam! Better integration means better accessibility. But Logos 6 has already implemented some of it. The inline search would be one example. Or the Information tool showing Literary Typing, Cultural Concepts, Semantic Feature etc. But I still have a few things I'd like to be able to access with one or two clicks, especially from within a Bible resource. This would include syntactic force, semantic roles etc.

Another suggestion concerns the notes. I know that many have commented on the note system that is within Logos already. And it seems that many are not happy with the way it is and functions right now. Maybe two things could be improved and implemented. One, it would be nice if we could stack notes documents together. To compare it with Evernote, in Evernote you have your notebooks with individual note files in it. This would be the note documents with its notes in Logos. But in Evernote you have the option to stack notebooks together. In Logos something like this would help us to better organize our notes. They could be stacked by topic, Bible reference, Bible books etc. And two, it would be really nice if we from within the right click menu could choose the correct note document to attach a note or highlighting to. So often I find myself wanting to add a note or highlighting but usually the right note document is not open. Or a particular note goes to another note document than the one I'm working with. If Logos would add the option to open the correct note document to the right click menu that would be a great help.
Also, it appears that if you set a style as a default, it becomes the default for every note document. This should be saved as a default for just that one note document. Because naturally each note document will have a different style, so as to separate and distinguish different kinds of notes. But maybe this is already possible.

I don't know that this applies to Logos 7 or just the catalog of resources in general. The only real frustration I have with the software is when I go to cite a book and the Logos edition does not have page numbers. I cannot understand why some of the books do not include page numbers. One resource that I use often, I have to go get the print volume off of the shelf and find the place in the print volume to get the page number for citation. Could we please get page numbers included on all the resources?

I've already asked for the following navigational changes in Logos 6 and very much want to see them made there, but if hopes are dashed, then no later than Logos 7.

1) Allow for a larger temporary pop-up window for scripture reference links. When hovering the mouse over a scripture reference link that has a range of verses, make the temporary pop-up window large enough to display all the verses in the link provided there is room on the screen to do so. As it currently works, the size of the temporary pop-up window generally limits the display to just 3-5 verses (depending on verse length) even though there is plenty of room on the screen to display a temporary pop-up window large enough to display all the verses in the link.

2) Provide a larger pop-up window when right-clicking on a word in a resource. When right-clicking on a word, make the pop-up window large enough to eliminate the need to scroll through options in the pop-up window, provided there is room on the screen to do so. As it currently works, every time I right-click on a word to get a definition, the option to get a definition is not visible in the pop-up window and requires scrolling to reach it, even though there is plenty of room on the screen for the pop-up window to display all options without having to scroll to see them.

3) Add "Highlight" and "Erase Highlight" options to the pop-up window displayed when right clicking on a word or a selected range of text. The highlighter used would default to your most recently selected highlighter, same as the current "Alt + K" keystroke shortcut does. The erase highlight option would work the same as the "Ctrl + Shift + K" keystroke shortcut does.

4) Add "Undo" & "Redo" icons in the screen header area where you see Documents, Guides, and Tools. These would work like the "Ctrl + Z" and "Ctrl + Y" keystroke shortcuts do, although I would like to see them apply to highlighting which they don't currently do.

5) When doing a search from the "Help" panel, have all occurrences of the search term highlighted in the search results.

Noticed a new feature in a competitor's product is dynamic interlinear. The idea of choosing manuscripts and/or translations for interlinear lines is intriguing, especially when combined with highlighting, including visual filters. Other lines could show tagging: speaker labels, literary type, ...

Related is expanding Personal Book Builder to allow interlinear resource creation.

Edit: competitor also has flex search so phrase “build houses” will yield results for “build houses,” “building a house,” and “the house that King Solomon built.” Seems flex search is a kind of fuzzy search. Extending original language root search metaphor to English synonyms would be appreciated so "build home" includes "construct house" results.

Regarding reverse interlinears,

One thing I've noticed infrequently, is that sometimes a translation uses a non-standard manuscript (chooses a text variant), however the rev. int. doesn't always reflect the translation choice. It would be cool if those variants were taken into account in the rev. int. text for each specific translation. I realize this gets complicated when an OT translation chooses to follow the LXX, rather than a Hebrew text. There would have to be some way of noting that in the rev. int. for those translations as well.

It would also be pretty interesting then, to be able to compare the textual variants between translations.

It makes searches slow, indexing long, (at least, I assume that this contributes to these issues) and I find it hard to find the stuff I am actually looking for. I have been thinking about buying a new base package in L6, but in the package I am considering, I am only interested in about 20% of the resources in the package. Another 30% I am indifferent to, but the remain 50% I would really rather not even have on my machine, and it is such a pain to hide each resource I don't want to show up. I shudder to think how many unwanted resources I will have on my machine by L12. It would be nice if I had more control over what I buy in a base package.

Also, while I'm at it, how about pulling apart more of the commentary series? I find that when I am working on a particular portion of scripture, I will go to bestcommentaries.com and find a couple I would like to buy. At this point, I am willing to drop $50-$100. But then I find that I can only get that particular volume I would really like by buying the whole set for $500-$1500, and there is just no way that I can just drop that kind of cash. So I end up not buying anything.

I like that. A custom base package or a build your own base package. Sort of like a buffet where you can add what you want on your plate instead of going through a menu and pick one single thing.

I haven't read the many posts in this thread so forgive me if this is redundant.

I'd like to see more search features. Such as a more advanced search interface for journals. If you search in an online database like ATLA you can limit the search to certain years, article type, etc...

Also, I'd like searches to be more intuitive. This may be a big request, I don't know enough about programming to know how big of a task this would be. However, if I search for a verse on Google the search engine can figure out what verse I'm looking for if I get any where close to the wording, Logos cannot. Sometimes I search for words NEAR each other and later find that results fell just outside of the word limit for NEAR.

We've had an international focus for the last two years. We're working to localize and build comprehensive libraries in the following languages (in addition to English and Spanish):

After we successfully get these off the ground, we'll continue expansion into other languages as well.

Sorry for joining in the discussion so late. Here are a few ideas that I think could be useful.

3 new Logos Ideas

1] Domain categories: What if our SEARCH RESULTS could be returned within various domain ranges of a sort? Just like L-N has domain categories, any search (or perhaps select searches) would populate within certain [perhaps user defined?] categories. [Logos already has other such categories built into the software. These might be put to other uses.] It might be enormously helpful. Verse Searches in BASIC Searches, for example, might be returned in various domain categories which would be listed in order from greatest number of hits to least number of hits. The theological implications would be fairly apparent and the narrowing of search results in this way could be enormously helpful.

2] Whenever one uses the Right-mouse-click feature on a GREEK word it opens a Context Menu. If this could be linked to the Morphology Chart which is already available in Logos it would enable us to see ANY Greek word with its conjugations as found in the N.T. I am asking if there could be a Morphology Chart option on that menu when one selects LEMMA on the right side of the menu.

3] up - down arrows on the Text Comparison menu bar.

Logos 7? oh.... I am still recovering from recently buying Logos 6 and not understanding that not all levels had the same data sets - I thought the other levels just had more resources. My mistake entirely that I thought data sets could be added on without going up to other levels. My starter kind of became a dead end in a moment;=)
Don't get me wrong, I love Logos and am glad I was confused as I would never have gotten it had I realized. It was a lot of money as is and even more as I add commentaries etc.

I have bought a number of cross grades through the years. I've not ever seen/heard that rationale before.

Yes, it is true that Starter by itself will not have nor will it support all of the new features etc -- but the whole point of the most expensive FEATURE cross grade (with its extra resources) is that it should "light up" ALL the new L6 features.

Was someone trying to sell you a bigger Base package?

That answer pretty much goes against everything I have seen advertised about cross-grades.

Perhaps you should call a second salesperson? [:)] ie like getting a second opinion from a doctor, contractor or the IRS?

I just wanted to respond to the specific things you mentioned here:

Psalms Explorer - this is available in the Features Crossgrade and doesn't require any additional resources
Parables Explorer - there isn't any such resource. There is a "Parallel Gospels Reader" also available in Features. Did you mean that or something else?
The TImeline is included in Core Crossgrade and upwards - this is one where having more resources will give access to more detailed information about events on the timeline
A range of map / atlas -related resources are included in the Crossgrades

Core has Biblical Places Maps and Logos 6 Maps Volume 1 & 2 (these last two are being enhanced)
Features additionally has Logos 6 Maps Volume 3

Hope this helps in your decision-making process

I would recommend the Features Crossgrade if your budget permits. While the Starter base package does not contain as many resources as the features in the Crossgrade can and would utilize, those features absolutely will utilize the resources you do have. And the Features Crossgrade has all the features of the Gold package; that is, all of the features of Logos 6.

Also check the recently released Specialized Collections (Logos Blog post: https://blog.logos.com/2015/02/get-the-most-out-of-your-favorite-logos-6-features-with-specialized-collections/) for resources targeted to the different features. Note that the features do not come with these collections; the collections simply provide resources specific to the respective features.

And that answer was basically right; your library won't really utilize those tools properly because you're missing many of the resources required by them. It doesn't mean you can't use them, they just won't be the experience you're expecting.

ME: --->That is what I do not understand.Can you give me an example?If I use say Psalms Explorer or Proverbs explorer or atlas. What would happen?There really is not clear information on this anywhere on the site.

Agent:--->Mostly original language study. The tools you just mentioned will work fine. But you have none of the background datasets for hebrew and greek tools to function.

I would like to have different choices in what books I get. By that I mean, not all who have Logos are preachers, so having a multitude of books on ministering is a waist to many like myself who do not preach. Also those not familiar with the original languages and are not concerned with trying to learn them, many language books are also a waist for many. I am not suggesting we are given a long list of books that we can pick and choose from. But we could have alternative bundles such as Logos has now on OT and NT history, Bible history, church history, denominational history and so on. So instead of getting books that would be useless for some, others bundles could be chosen that would be more beneficial for suiting their needs. The different bundles would or could be priced together to meet the same prices as a Gold, Silver or Platinum base packages.

I have probably 2000 books I do not need nor wanted but they came with the packages I have bought over the years and these have to do with the ministry and sermon making. (I would be glad to give these away if I could and if anyone wanted them.

But my point is that it would be nice to have some sort of selection in Logos 7 without having to buy books we don’t want. I know what some will say. Don’t buy the higher priced packages. What is wrong with having some choice instead of getting books logos can’t sell?

I understand what you are saying, but can you give more details? What kind of base package do you want?

I would like to see the ability to show which books, etc. are already a part of one's collection when visiting the store. The dynamic pricing is much appreciated, but with well over 9,000 resources, it is difficult to detect which resources are owned and which resources I would be purchasing as a result of the dynamic pricing. This is especially true when there are over 100 resources included in a collection. It seems like an inconvenience to compare the lists of resources that are a part of the collection to the resources that are already in my library. Thank you for allowing me to voice this!

Finding products in the Logos and Vyrso shops is easy. Finding resources in your own library is hard. It should be as easy as browsing the shops:

Hierarchy by topic, especially for vyrso titles (Christian Living, bio, theology, fiction, children, teens and suitable sub categories.
Filtering by author, language, denomination etc.

I want just the same functions that I have in the various Faithlife stores already, just inside the application.

(I'll just put that request on uservoice as well...)

For example, in my print Bible I'll often underline a phrase, verse, or passage with multiple colors to signify different things/thoughts/etc. Could the Borders and Lines section add say just one or two more lines below the text. If that could be done on the bottom I would think that could be done on the top and sides as well. I understand I can do multiple highlights/underlines on a phrase, text, or passage but only one will display at a time if I've done multiple underlines. I'd like to see them all if possible so that is why I'd like to see some additional lines available.

I'll second that simple searches (Bibles, library, & forums) can be MUCH harder than they should be. I'll also second comments that existing help files don't really help on the cases they don't cover. (In this case, there was a way but "Help" wasn't help).

If I want a quick search of something and the search terms I'm using don't work the first three or four times (often because I'm remembering a verse from a different version), I just do a Google search and almost always find satisfaction. File in the "sad-but-true" folder.

8: Improved Organisation of Library
Scrolling through a list of several thousand resources is almost impossible to do fruitfully. Collections help a little but I’d really like to see resources organised into expandable hierarchical folders like Windows Explorer that are put there by drag and drop. Ideally, this would be a view rather than a physical location so that I could have multiple logical organisations of resources (e.g. I might want to organise my commentaries by series, book, etc. There should be a way to choose the size of icon or list details much like windows explorer gives.

I like this idea very much. It is really important that Faithlife always be thinking of library management and organization. As libraries get bigger, this becomes an ever bigger issue. Collections are wonderful, but more ways to organize is imperative. This suggestion above, I would really like to see. I have added it to uservoice

In browser favorites, if a website is in the favorites list, it is indicated by a filled in star (in firefox) that shows that it is in my favorites. I would like this ability also in Logos. What I have in my favorites should be noted in a similar way.

I have 5 boys, 3 of whom are teenagers and they have taken an interest in the Logos Bible program. I would like to see L7 have a base package that would tweak the interest of a young person in high school to begin to use Logos in their study of God's Word. I am considering introducing them to a free Bible Software in order to tweak their interest more. But I think it would be in the interest of Faithlife to think about offering a free package similar to esword, with resources that are in the public domain that could get a young person started on a lifetime of study. Once they have a package, they can then choose to build on that package as the years go on. Others could purchase resources for them and have the resources added to their libraries.

I propose and suggest that Logos 7 be a complete do-over for normal, regular, Bible-study, Church-attending users and not scientific, mathematically minded, programmer types that it is now.

In short...give people and option to dumb it down some - create a Bible study mode or offer a "gather all your devotionals and have them change daily mode on your front page" mode.

Imagine a common person sitting in a Bible study trying to quickly locate items on whatever operating system they are using and maybe just trying to open up to a one or two commentaries efficiently and swiftly.

Make word pronunciation easier and simpler so that when your turn comes to read The Word you are not struggling to say a word properly but just need to click on it or push it to pronounce it (seriously, something this user-friendly is sadly lacking in this software).

So to repeat myself - come up with an EASY MODE or call it BIBLE STUDY MODE if you like. You would be amazed how quickly I sadly abandon Logos to locate just about anything including say a Scriptures on Giving (for example) and just do a Google search instead. It pains me every time but Logos is slow and not easy to use still after all these years.

It always surprises and galls me some that we have to create our own layouts and do some programming to get simple devotionals to show up and update everyday. More control of what we want to see on our front page rather than what Faithlife is trying to sell would be great please.

JoshinRI - I agree that Logos could do more for the Sunday School teacher/religious education director/faith formation director/worship planner crowd. And I have reason to believe that they will make some additional moves in that direction. For the Verbum user, the lectionary default layout serves very much as a simple interface for the average member of the congregation. In many ways the simplicity or complexity of Logos/Verbum is a direct consequence of the resources one owns. It works well for religion classes in Catholic high schools which is obviously a controlled library ... so I don't believe the software is above the grasp of the average pew warmer. Could your "easy mode" be as simple as a limited resources/features mode? That could be extremely useful to the educational group as they could then tailor their presentations to what they expect their students/participants to have ... and quit spending so much time saying "you won't see this because ...."

Note also that "normal, regular, Bible-study, Church-attending users" will vary greatly through different theological strains e.g. the confessional based Bible study of Lutherans, the tradition-reason Anglican approach, the tradition-reason-experience Wesleyan/Catholic approach. the straight sola-scriptura inerrancy approach ....

I am the youth guy at my church and the kids have an intense interest in how I study the bible, I live in a very poor community and gearing them up with even the most basic package is simply not an option. It would be great if Faithlife developed a basic package available to students that could get them started down that path.

It seems to me that all of this would accomplish what is being asked. Besides the interest some parents or youth workers might have in such a product to encourage a younger generation, it is a good marketing strategy to hook so to speak a new generation to see the value of the software package. To have a simple program, where kids can read (they like reading on a Kindle more than a physical book) and where they can begin to see the value of commentaries, resources, but keeping it simple, affordable and potentially expandable.

While #2 WIVU analysis is missing from Logos (and people still are asking for it, as currently only AFAT syntactical search is available for the OT), the WIVU trees themselves (#1) are still part of the GBS-bundle that replaced SESB and can be seen in Logos 6. You actually posted in the old thread recently where some users who couldn't see them at first got them to work.

Well you said, “Dream big” so here goes…..

I am a Verbum user and what I would like to see this software become is my “Digital Hub for my Spiritual Life”.

With that said, Verbum is an outstanding research tool as is. But, I would like to see incorporated more of a “personal” touch to the software.

From within the Verbum environment I would like to be able to access the Blog posts that I subscribe to and easily turn the posts I want to keep into personal books. Likewise I would like to have the Verbum environment alert me when a You Tube channel I subscribe to has a new video posted. Ideally these can be played straight from the Verbum environment or at the least open a browser to that video.

I would like to be able to keep my own photographs and graphics within the Verbum environment. That way when I go on pilgrimages I can link those photos and graphics to my favorite Bible. Something like a Verbum photo album.

Speaking of dreaming big. Why not a “Build a Bible” feature kind of along the lines of Apple iBooks Builder. That way I can build a “dream” Bible with all my notes, pictures, graphic, charts, clippings, parallel passages, audio/video clips etc. incorporated within that Bible.

Also, why not some sort of widget builder so that individual web sites can build widgets that allow that website to interact with the Logos/Verbum environment. I’m thinking of websites like Formed, Augustine Institute, St. Paul Center for Biblical Studies (or any individual church) etc… This would allow these sites to turn Logos/Verbum into a customized teaching tool. By closer cooperation with these sites Logos/Verbum becomes a tool they can use, makes the software more valuable and desirable, and helps you market the product to a larger audience.

While I’m dreaming “big”. What about an App builder and App store. Where little Apps (That interact within the Logos/Verbum enviroment) can be posted and sold by users through this store. Prayer journals, Calendar programs, etc.. Who knows what clever little gems your users will come up with? This again makes the software more valuable and desirable, becomes a win-win-win situation for everyone and, truly helps create the “Digital Hub for the Spiritual Life”.

Logos/Verbum does not have to do everything on its own or reinvent the wheel. What I would like to see is tight integration with other software packages especially OneNote, Microsoft Office Suite, Mindmapping software like Inspiration etc….

Your software packages are truly amazing and I have been so blessed by Verbum. Truly, the possibilities for this software is endless.

I'd really like to be able to control the font size from the print dialogue.

I frequently use PDF snippets for classes. But because I'm on high res, large monitors, I keep my font size big. I end up opening the print dialogue, realizing it's going to use a huge font and take 40 pages, then must close it, shrink my font down, reopen, print the now 6-page excerpt, close the print dialogue, and make my fonts readable on the screen again.

Yes, no new features. Instead direct ALL the $$ to two things:

1) mobile development; and

2) adding more faith life products such as MobileED, Bible Guides, etc., into base packages. More included content means more people buying base packages and upgrading. I don't need fancy features which will be discontinued two years later. Plus, many lack the means to spend hundreds on say the Bible Guides only to learn they don't own 90% of the resouces cited therein. Flip it. Include such things in base packages which then encourages users to buy the cited resources.
