Beta Forum Suggestion
I haven't received my DVD copy of L4 yet but have been watching the growth of this forum over the past few days. It may just be my OCD showing, but one thing is very clear ... a single, giant shoebox approach containing half of a bazillion threads is a very unwieldy way to collects crash reports, suggestions, impressions, kudos, etc. Already, the forum has 5 or 6 pages of repetitive and overlapping threads. It also becomes a real challenge to try and find an earlier comment that you kinda/sorta remember. Once the DVD people start loading up their programs and commenting on the forums it will become even worse.
Why not set up several Beta forums - each dedicated to just one topic? Examples:
Beta - Can't figure where else to write about it
Beta - Indexing
Beta - Vent here and get it off your chest
Beta - Collections
Beta - Libraries
Beta - Video issues
Beta - UI
and so forth ...

Failing the sub-forum idea, or even in the meantime, we could start a series of threads under those and similar titles. Perhaps the first posts could include a plea to keep comments to a minimum, or at least to keep them on topic.

A bug tracking database would be ideal. [;)] That is, one that we can view.

You might have better luck making a plea to stop plate tectonics ... [;)]

I agree I am finding the forums impossible to keep up with - they are slow and unwieldy. Hope a solution can be found !Bert Barnes

I'm trying to read daily to keep up to date on what works and what doesn't, so I don't have to reinvent the wheel myself, but it's like trying to measure the output of a firehose with a bucket.

A perfect example: this thread is a duplication of a thread I posted a couple of days ago:
http://community.logos.com/forums/t/765.aspx
But since it took me 15 minutes of devoted searching by "hand" to find my own thread, I certainly can't blame anyone! [:)]

I think they are working on this, we can't make the forum searchable because it will cause it to be searchable by the public, from what I know it isn't a quick and easy fix. Let's hope we can set up a category system soon.0
