    Add:

The Greater Men and Women of the Bible (I think that's what it's called. Away from my book shelf as I type).

I would love to see this also in Logos. I am truly puzzled that this work of Hastings has escaped my attention until now. Mark a big thank you for drawing my attention to this.

Ted, I picked up only four of the six volumes years ago in seminary and have never a one since. I'd like to get those other two.

Hastings served his generation well, but is almost unknown today. His output was prodigious.

Actually, I'm appalled that Logos is publishing Hastings, Dictionary of Christ and the gospels. It's 100 years old...this does not make it a classic, it makes it a dinosaur. For example, according to Hastings, we have definite idea of where the city of Capernaum was. Well...they've been digging in Capernaum for over a century.

    Use something up-to-date!

Well, to be truthful, Logos is not publishing Hastings.  It will only do so if enough us bid sufficiently high enough to pay for its publication.  So, if it does get published, you should not blame Logos, but those of us that bid on the title.

Of course, it may end up being like Barnes, which I would also like to come to print, and not be published at all.

    Blessings,

Well...somebody had to first put it up on the auction block in order for people to bid in favor of it....

    Gary,

The Community pricing page is reserved for public domain works.    I would wager anyone looking at Hastings would recognize that it is dated.  And yet, I would not be surprised to discover that there were gems in there as well.

Though I admittedly know little about the resource.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

    Hi Thomas!

Well, you and I would recognize that it's dated. However, all one has to do is Google antique titles and realize that people constantly take them as absolutely authoritative - for example, Thayer's Lexicon; the old ISBE.

Interesting I think.  I was reading Plummer's Luke this morning (ICC) and he makes a point on the apocryphal stories of the boyhood of Jesus and then refers me to Hastings.  (Hastings, D.C.G. art. “Boyhood of Jesus.”)    Now I wish I had that link active so I could jump over to see what Hastings had collected on the topic.

Looking at the link (A Dictionary of Christ and the Gospels (2 Vols) It's a loooong way off.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Dictionary of the Bible has recently shown up in community pricing, in case you hadn't discovered it yet. And Dictionary of Christ and the Gospels has been there a bit longer.

Thanks Rosie for checking. I have placed my bid already and waiting for the rest of Hastings works to appear.

Now, if only i could persuade Rosie to write a review (like she did for Thomas Aquinas) on why one should have Hastings in their Logos library though dated[:D]. Then we would see these works quicker rather later in Logos.Hint, hint, PLEASE[:)].

I don't know Hastings from a hole in the wall and have not got the motivation. It takes someone who really wants to see a product (such as yourself) to do a good and passionate review.

I'm not familiar with some of his dictionaries, but his Dictionary of the Bible is a classic work of its time with signed articles by some of the great OT scholars of the period.
