How do I get the most out of HALOT using the Logos 5 engine?
David, you'll probably want to provide a little more info on why you're looking at hebrew, what period of writings, etc. Lexicons speak to need.
But just some thoughts. I typically prefer looking at Biblical hebrew in its context (Bible search), and then compare to the LXX, DSS, Syriac, etc, mainly because I view the text as fluid.
But once in the lexicons, then the question is opinions (eg HALOT vs Gesenius, etc) and then cross-references (external uses). Below is an example of the latter, where HALOT links to my Ugarit dictionary to at least show me the similarities and differences. In this case, the 'rabbit trail' began with early David vs Saul. The other thing HALOT provides, which many don't use, is the aramaic volume, relative to Jastrow, with both providing a wealth of info moving into the NT period.
