I just noticed that the International Critical Commentary (ICC) Upgrade (2 vols.) is scheduled to ship on December 19th. I must have missed this earlier for some reason.
Thank you for the reminder, Alex.
I'm almost tempted to get it for the Allison volume (he also did ICC-Mat).
Plus, I'm surprised the evangelicals have finally embraced ICC. Certainly about time.

Embraced? Perhaps that is too strong a term, so don't put your dancing shoes on yet.
I imagine every evangelical scholar of the Old or New Testaments owns or has consulted the ICC.
I buy selectively in this series as in many others. I'd probably add the James volume but am not interested in another multi-multi-volume set on Isaiah at this point.
Gee, Mark. I've already got one dancing shoe already laced up!
We all know that the major evangelical publishing house (Faithlife) has taken the reins for saying yea/nay on all things evangelical. This hasn't really been with Faithlife even being on the evangelical horse. It's just that other pastors (who shall remain nameless) keep falling off.
Now, when Faithlife says ICC is intended for the evangelical group, then I'm sold. Where's my other shoe? Faithlife doesn't intensionally mislead. Never has, never will.
Yavne? Bellingham? I think so.
The ICC has enough meat for those who do their homework. Doesn't matter if their conclusions and theories don't line up with mine. At least here. One minute after here does.

No but they do make mistakes in metadata sometimes.
However I frequently buy things that are not intended for evangelicals so that wouldn't bother me about ICC. Yikes, though. $100 for 2 volumes, even at the pre-pub price (more after it ships). That's a lot of moolah, even for someone who spends as much as I do on Logos resources. I got my initial collection of ICC (53 volumes) five years ago for $999.95, which is about $18.87 per volume. I'm having a really hard time justifying buying this upgrade, especially since I rarely use ICC. It isn't one of my top 5 prioritized commentaries for any book of the Bible except Romans, Matthew, and Pastoral Epistles.

The whole of the ICC is on my long-term wish list, but I really cannot justify the price. In fact, I probably will never be able to... But in some ways, I'd expect that. It's a majorly scholarly work, generally stocked by good theological libraries and so it probably should be costly due to the hours of scholarship. (You did well, Rosie, at $999 as it's currently listed for me at $1,899.
I hope that Faithlife doesn't produce commentaries that are /only/ for Evangelicals. I've noted the Evangelical bias (and find it irritating), but am hoping it will widen its focus in future to being a little more mainline.

I haven't embraced the theology of the liberal scholars who write in the ICC, but I can learn from them without buying into their conclusions or presuppositions. They are often worth consulting. (By the way, that is the same thing I do with all Calvinist writers as well, being a Wesleyan.)
But aren't you aware that several of the newer volumes of the ICC are by solid evangelicals, such as J. I. Packer? There is some good stuff in there. I am glad I was able to add the ICC to my library with the Logos 6 upgrade.
Yes, I have found the series helpful. I don't swallow everything I read in any category. I read and I think...
My introduction to the series was through the commentary on Romans. Really an very helpful resource.
Anytime you are looking at a major purchase like ICC, call your sales rep. If you don't have one, I recommend Dave Kaplan. If I remember correctly, I was going to get ICC in NT only, but it was a better deal for the full set.
FWIW, a big exegetical work represents years of labor after a lot more years of study in preparation to do that kind of work. By comparison, the price for it is chump change.

I totally agree. I didn't like the upgrade packages for Logos 6, and called. My sales rep was able to work out a great upgrade deal with resources I had long wanted, such as the ICC and Tim Keller Sermon archive. It is always worth calling.
Michael, I'd just assumed, with so many 'Packers' that J. I. Packer might be a liberal one. Thanks!
Actually my original comment was in reference to the propensity of the Logos web folks to assign works to the 'evangelical group' in the absence of 'coptic', 'southern romanian', 'Church of Christ' or similar large group. I get the feeling, it's an optional field with the default. Or conversely, they're trying to rack up evangelical points, after so many Catholic resources (which are needed).

Yep, that's a stiff price. But, I am a "sucker" for keeping my sets complete and upgraded. And, I will use it at some point.
Plus, look at the price increase out of pre-pub. Yikes! Glad I got it sooner.

I guess I'll just have to hope it's included in a base package upgrade someday.
