What are "Collections" and how do I use this feature?
Hello Scott, the "Collections" feature allows you to group resources. For example, rather than searching your entire library for a given topic, subject, etc., you may find it helpful to search only the books in your library that are related to "apologetics." You may find this wiki page helpful in understanding "Collections."
You may also want to browse the Logos Youtube channel (if internet access is not an issue).

Thanks...so think I have successfully created a collection. But now how do I use it? I'm not sure.
NM thanks for the explanation guys. Didn't know about this feature. Looks like it will become handy. God Bless you all always forever!

Scott, you can try a simple basic search of your new collection by following these steps:
1) Click the "search" icon.2) Select "basic" search.3) Click the phrase "entire library" and select the new collection you created. (e.g. "My Apologetics Books" in the screen shot below.)4) Enter the term for which you wish to search.
Logos will then return search results restricted to resources that are included in your newly-built collection.
This example is from Logos 5 for Mac, but will likely translate to your platform. Of course you can experiment with more complex searches, but this quick one should acquaint you how you can use your new collection.

Scott, I pasture and write a lot of sermons so here is a collection I have set up and I labeled it Preaching, give it a try
Subject:(Homiletics, Preaching, Sermons)
I also set up my own personal guide as you can see on the right so when I do searches with this guide it searches my Preaching collection
If you want to edit your guide click on guides right click the one you want to edit, click edit guide and when your done rename it. I also drag my named guide to the top so it is easily accessible.
Thanks...very helpful. I'm starting to get it now, but the one bit I still don't quite grasp is the "Start with resources matching" box, where you have to enter a "rule". How exactly does this feature work?
Great to have these questions. I think many people look at Logos mainly as a way to get digital books and miss the huge number of amazing features. When first introduced to Logos it is like being impressed at an iceberg floating in the sea. At first it looks impressive below the service is 90% more.
Collections are just one of those amazing features that don't first meet the eye. Here is a suggestion that will take your collections to the next level. I'm not sure if you know about Faithlife Groups but I would encourage you to consider joining this group - https://faithlife.com/logos-library-theology-denomination-tags/
Once you go to this page and choose to join the group you will have access to a database of collections that identify theologies and denominations. Then choose to download each of the documents and the collections that people have created will automatically be in your collections in Logos. Now when you want to search a particular view or denominational perspective it is easy to do. Try it and you will be amazed.
I continue to hang out on these forums because I learn something new about Logos almost every day. I continue to explore the iceberg below but there are times when I didn't fully realize what was above the surface.
Scott,
There are quite a few things you can do with collections. My two favorites are:
I think collections are the most important parts of Logos - they allow you to use your library faster, smarter... just better.
Enter this rule in the "Start with resources matching" box subject:(Homiletics, Preaching, Sermons) and you will see all the books you have relating to sermons, I'm still getting the hang of it as well, but there are many rules you can use.

The "Start with resources matching" is a filter for finding Library resources. The filter
subject:(Homiletics,Preaching,Sermons)
looks for parts of three words in the Subject field. The resource "Envisioning the Word: The Use of Visual Images in Preaching" is found by Preaching being in the Subject field.
This Preaching collection includes subjects containing Homiletic, which matches Homiletics and Homiletical so the collection resource count of 677 is more than 628 found by the Library filter.
subject:(Homiletic,Preaching,Sermons)
Wiki has => https://wiki.logos.com/Example_Collections with many Dynamic Rule examples. If join Faithlife group Logos Collections, can copy Collections by clicking Get Copy to the right of the desired document name followed by synchronizing Logos. Alternative is Select All then Action => Get Copies
Library can also be filtered to exclude resources:
title:preaching -subject:(Homiletic,Preaching,Sermons)
finds resources with Preaching in the Title, which do not have Homiletic, Preaching, and Sermons in the Subject:
The eBook "Preaching for God's Glory" does not have subject field metadata so modified Preaching collection rule:
Subject:(Homiletic,Preaching,Sermons), Title:Preaching
Note: the comma between Subject and Title is one way to specify OR (so subject or title matches)
An alternative to adding Title to collection rule is adding Mytag filter plus tagging resource(s). Every tag is a collection, which can be included or excluded from other collections. For Preaching, the resources found with Preaching in the Title appear to have preaching content.
For a "Counsel + Psychology collection", am using tagging to add seven resources:
Mytag:Counsel OR Subject:(Counsel, Emotion, Living, "Pastoral care", Psychology) OR Title:(Counsel, "Pastoral care", Psychology)
Alternate filter for OR conditions (using comma) finds same number of resources:
Mytag:Counsel, Subject:(Counsel, Emotion, Living, "Pastoral care", Psychology), Title:(Counsel, "Pastoral care", Psychology)

OT: Wow, Bruce. That's sounds like a nice theme for a sermon. [:)]
