Setting up a reading plan for Calvin's Institutes

Hello,

I would like to create a new reading plan for working through Calvin's Institutes, but I cannot figure out how to get it set up. The new reading plan module in Logos 6 is really frustrating to learn.

Clicking "Documents>Reading Plans" is the furthest I've gotten towards making this custom plan.

Also, how can I set the default edition of the Institutes? I would prefer the McNeil edition as default.

1. Click on Documents, and then on the left (in the New section), on Reading Plans.

2. In the new window that opens, click on the middle link: Generate Reading Plan.

3. In the new window click on each link to change the corresponding option to your liking. You could start by changing the "in" option by clicking on the title that follows it. It opens a library-like dialog. Type calvin institutes in there. McNeill's is the one that says volumes 1 & 2 (brownish cover). Unless you want to read less than the whole thing, leave "all passages" alone. Click on "every day" to indicate when you want to read in any given week. Then on the link following "starting" to decide your starting date and "finishing" to indicate by when you want to have it read or in how many sessions. The "by myself" option should be left alone unless you are part of a faithlife group that does it together.

4. Once done doing all this, click on the Start button to generate the plan. A schedule will appear. Voilà. If you are unhappy with it, you can click the Edit button to change options again.

You reading plan will be set for McNeill's only. But if besides this, if you also want links to the Institutes to point to McNeill's edition, you have two options: (1) prioritize McNeill's above the other editions in the library or (2) if you don't want to use the other editions at all, go to settings and drag them to hidden resources.

Hi Austin,

A number of Logos users are reading through Calvin's Institutes in 2015, and there is a Faithlife group set up for this purpose. Someone already went to all the work to set up a Reading Plan for it, so you might want to just get the four RP documents (Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, Book 4) which he shared with the group rather than reinventing the wheel. Unless you want to do it as a learning exercise for yourself to learn how to do reading plans. But it's an immense task with this particular book.

Tip -- I have found that reading the text and listening to an audio version is helpful when listening to the Institutes. I am using the Beveridge translation while listening to the same from Christianaudio (~$30).

Thanks for your help. I can't believe I didn't get this when I tinkered around with it for about 30 minutes when the answer was right in front of me.

I will definitely check out the Faithlife group as well
