Is My Academic Journal Bundle the Worst Pre-pub Ever?

OK, so I picked the academic master journal bundle.  I went to check how many more days before it'd be in development (surely every academic on the face of planet Earth and having Logos, signed up).

My goodness.  It's like a party and nobody came?  Then I checked the other parties.  Nope. Maybe the master-master was the correct answer from the start?

My guess is that anyone spoiled by access to all sorts of journals in academic libraries wants it in Logos. You really never know which journal you want until a reference comes up citing it.

All the other bundles are subsets of Master so if master goes I to production the others should too I would think.

I suspect that most academics and students have online access to journals via ATLA - I have lifetime access as a graduate of my college, and that is in many ways more valuable than having them in Logos because it gives me access to up-to-date journals. For me, it's important to have the up-to-date element so the Logos journal bundles would be of limited value. Now, if Logos were to provide ATLA subscription and index the database in Logos, I would bite immediately. That would really be of value to me.

That would be a game-changer and would likely win a lot more customers!

That would also get them the subscription model they apparently want.

It depends, really.  I mean, Logos users (on the whole) seem to want to own resources (or, rather to permanently own (and transfer) the licence to access certain resources).  Journal owners want subscribers.  The issue could be settled by offering previous issues as part of Logos bundles and current issues (eg. the last year or two, according to the subscription model).

This would be a great advantage - getting access instantly to the newest research and owning stuff in the library, where it also works offline, after the year (which is the time Logos needs to produce the stuff anyway).

I emailed Bob about this a few dadays ago and was told that he would look into it.  I wish Logos would issue a mea culpa and return Galaxie.

I plan to purchase the Master Journal Bundle, but right now I had to choose between the journals and a Logos 6 package. I can't buy both in the same year.

Thank you, Greg, for that tidbit of key information.  My post was a bit tongue-in-cheek.  But I suspect that Logos staff has a good feel for which pre-pubs are pretty much finished off, within maybe a month or so of their introduction.  Spicq's Hebrews is the big mystery.  Given the production cost/tagging of the master journal bundle, I'd bet it's finished off too (absent some shinanigans from Logos).

The idea of a current subscription and owning the previous would be excellent.  I like light reading from BAR for lunch; the info ages badly elsewise.  But BAR presently demands a subscription for any copies younger than approx 18 months old; older than that you can buy singles.  And so I wait patiently for a specific one to hit the singles point.

I have no need for a whole stack of miscellaneous journals on my iPad/PC that can't be managed with everything else (Logos).  I did have a subscription to JBL but found (a) I couldn't keep up and (b) again, they're not usable within my library later.

another possibility too is that in the journal malaise of the past year others may have just gone elsewhere and bought galaxie in that A software or wherever.

If I had to (and I didn't, but just for example) pay my pound of flesh to have them in a second software I may be less interested in purchasing them in Logos thereafter. We may see it pick up after the next galaxie bundle is released next year.

The academic bundle is coming up on two years behind isn't it?

Don't pay too much attention to the bars at this point. Two reasons:

    1. We don't have final production cost numbers plugged in yet for all of the journals, and we tend to estimate high to be on the safe side.
    2. The production cost for the content is shared across multiple products, and we don't have good supported for shared production costs yet.

There's been a good response to the collections so far; they're just massive and expensive to produce. That said, we'll likely move them into production soon (many are already in production) and not wait until they are fully funded. I'm waiting on the remaining production cost numbers so we can make a decision and get closer to a projected ship date.

Thanks for your patience. Sorry it's not a faster process!
