Flashcards app - Greek Alphabet
We have this nice Greek alphabet tutor in the desktop version. The problem is that it is on the desktop.
I am wanting to start learning Greek and when I recently found out that there was a Flashcard app, I immediately downloaded it.
But how do i get the Greek alphabet on to the app?
Do I have to create a custom word list by cutting and pasting the Greek alphabet one letter at a time to my new list?
Why doesn't this come as a standard word list on the app?

The Flashcards app isn't targeted for learning the Greek Alphabet, although you can try creating a custom word list on Logos Desktop like you suggested. There are no bundled word lists in the app - it simply works with those already created on Desktop.

It does seem strange that someone would go to the trouble of creating the Greek alphabet tutor on the desktop and then, in the perfect app for learning the Greek alphabet, completely iignore it.
But then, I guess I'm just a user and don't understand how developers think.0 -
The Flashcards app was never intended to be a tutorial for learning the Greek or Hebrew alphabets but to help those who can already read Greek/Hebrew to learn/memorize word lists they've created in Logos Desktop.
Only a small subset of features available in Logos Desktop are present in the free Faithlife mobile apps, and the Greek alphabet tutor (as you know) is not among them. This is by design.

I am a customer who has paid a ton of money to Logos. You can look at my customer file.
The apps should be part of the total Logos package. People who are good customers of Logos should be able to use the apps for something useful.
And I don't consider them free. I have invested a lot of money into my Logos software and expect that it should work well on a mobile platform.
I don't think you really understand how customers (at least this one) think about these issues. We are moving to a completely mobile world.
If you produce an app, it should work and work well. The flashcard app is a complete frustration as you can see from some of the other posts on the issue. Are you saying it was designed to be like that?0 -
Spot on Taxee this company is failing to see what is important to its customers. Everything you have said is correct. These apps are not free, they are loaded with advertising and we pay for them through our other purchases.

Do I have to create a custom word list by cutting and pasting the Greek alphabet one letter at a time to my new list?Resetting the typing alphabet to Greek language works even better - it was just a couple of minutes to type it (and Logos is able to sort automatically per lemma). One drawback: only ω (omega) seems to be a lemma in the Logos database which provides audio.
I shared the small list with group Logos Word Lists for Flashcard , a BBG-Greek learning group (unfortunately currently inactive) and with Faithlife Beta of which you're a member, so you should be able to get it from the Faithlife or http://documents.logos.com page.

...which is incredibly poor planning. When I took intro Greek, the first set of flashcards I made was for the alphabet. Then I made sets for endings, etc. None of the first half of the first semester involved any cards with words on them.

Yeah, I get tired of that dodge too. Usually it comes across as, "the software is free...you pay for the resources." Now the same thing is being used with the apps.
Faithlife's inability to see the move toward the mobile device and away from the desktop computer is disturbing. We all have a lot of money tied up in it, and failure shouldn't be a threat to us.

I don't want my money back but I do want Logos to listen a little better to its customers, particularly those that have shelled out a lot.
I have cut my spend way back because Logos does not appear to be headed in the right direction. The experience on the desktop and mobile devices should be seamless.
It's not. And it seems to not be a priority of Logos and that is troubling.0 -

Agree this is a nice addition to the desktop but mobile apps are lagging badly and require a lot more priority than the leadership of this company is giving them. problems with the desktop application are often resolved quickly but when it comes to mobile apps all we gst is: we know about the problem but have no plans for a fix.

I am just praising Faithlife for helping my 15 year old to learn the Hebrew alphabet. Sorry that sticks in your craw.

Our goal is to eventually offer many of the Interactive resources in Logos 6 through our mobile apps, but we haven't gotten to them yet.
There are dramatic differences in desktop and mobile app development, and we often have to completely re-code, if not re-design, desktop functionality o get it working on mobile devices. We're working towards a platform with more common code / use of cross-platform technologies, but it will take a while to get there.
I appreciate your feedback; it helps us prioritize the many features we wish to offer on mobile.

It would be better to make sure the fundamentals are taken care of first. The Logos app <should> be the best way to access resources and reading plans... but it is not. It is quite embarrassing to try and turn to a passage in church in a DOWNLOADED resource and have a blank page returned.
IMO - The mobile app should excel at providing access to ones library (including personal books) and provide a way to read those resources and take notes. The ability to perform complex highlights is vastly superior on this platform than any other I know... but file management is lacking. We should be able to have resource specific note files created automatically. That <should> be the default. Users have also complained about being able to navigate the library more easily (i.e. UI improvements to facilitate seeing only downloaded resources). Lastly, sync needs to work and work efficiently. I understand how it works, but many / most do not. Part of "working efficiently" will mean creating some form of "projects" capability on desktop and mobile. I don't know why that wasn't a major part of L6. It should have been.

I recommend reconsidering. I am taking Greek I this semester, and I purchased Logos 6.0 Gold with my student discount when I started seminary. Considering that you market this program to students, I recommend considering Taxee's suggestion. I can't help but agree since I spent close to $3K on this product with all of the upgrades and additional resources.

Check out the response I received above. Go to Logos Word Lists for Flashcard or http://documents.logos.com page. Someone has put together a word list for the Greek alphabet which works well.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but this is of particular interest. I know the greek alphabet very well, however, Hebrew has never received any attention from me. I'm trying to learn the Hebrew alphabet. I took great pains to create a vocabulary list of the Hebrew consonants that syncs to the Flashcard app. It works. If anyone is interested in this list, I would be more than happy to share a copy with you.

Allowing an alphabet word list to be used on the flashcard app easily is not a matter of mobile development but of removing an artificial roadblock and allowing us, the consumer who paid good money for the app, to use it as we like within the bounds of how it was designed.Regards,

Huh? I don't get where you're coming from, reviving this thread.
- Bob wrote about the html-based interactive resources (like Greek alphabet tutor mentioned in the OP), not about development of the Flashcard app
- The app is free, no one "paid good money" for it
- The app was designed to work with Word Lists from the Logos 6 desktop application and it does, to the best of my knowledge exactly as specified (there's no artificial roadblock whatsoever) - so everybody is free to create their own Greek alphabet Word List or to use one shared from a Faithlife group - such as the one I hastily put together back then I don't see any issue with that
Did you try to use it and got stuck somewhere? Anything we can help you with?
