I created a new note file and was adding notes pretty much in verse order and this was the order I got in the file:
Why?
(FYI, I have not imported any v3 notes.)
Todd, I thought that this (lack of canonical order) had been noted and that it would be dealt with in a future beta, but no, i have nothing concrete to direct you to.

I remember seeing it in reference to notes imported out of order (that's why I noted it wasn't related to that). But I couldn't find it reported for general use...I even check the wiki bug list.
Still a problem in beta 4.
Todd,
Are you adding notes to the reference in the resource from the context menu, or are you manually adding the notes, or is there a mix of the two? I'm not able to reproduce what you're seeing when I add notes to a reference in my Bible--they are added in canonical order.
Note sort order options are being reviewed and may change in the future.
Melissa
Those notes were all added via the context menu, by right-clicking in the ESV.
I can't reproduce the problem in 4.0a or 4.0b beta. Let's see if any one else reports having the same problem.

I deleted my note file and made a new one. This time the notes added themselves to the file in verse order. I was hoping that the old versefile would have its sort order fixed somehow. But since it's gone now so I guess it doesn't matter.
My notes are out of order, but I DID import them from 3. I had the same problem in 3.
Exodus 21:10 right after 1 Cor 7:6.
