Programming suggestion

Subject highlighting to the Windows Ctrl+Z convention.

Auto-select sometimes works poorly, especially in a laptop. That is, you'll select a word, andother word, a phrase, another phrase... and then mean to select a word, but the entire paragraph will select. Now it's all yellow.

What I should be able to do is high Ctrl+Z and simply Undo the last move (highlighting the entire paragraph). Instead, what I have to do is Right-click, Remove annotations — and then all the selection in the paragraph is gone, and I have to re-do the whole thing.

See?

Sorry but I don't understand.

Are you saying that the entire paragraph is selected (which I do understand) or that it is highlighted without you applying a highlight (which I don't understand).

It sounds as though you have "Smart Text Selection" enabled in Program Settings. Try turning that off and see if it helps

Or, with Smart Text Selection enabled you can press the Alt key while still selecting text to control more precisely what is selected

No Graham, it doesn't help, but I sincerely thank you for taking the time to respond. And I want auto-select to work, not to turn it off. Enabling Ctrl+Z to do what it normally does would suit me fine.

Let me try again, with a shorter narrative.

I select a word and press A (my shortcut key for highlighting). The selection and/or highlighting are delayed a tick, just because that's the way it is. The word highlights. I do the same thing again, but this time due to a program glitch, even though I select a single word exactly as I just did and press A because I'd like to move on, what happens a second later is that the entire paragraph is selected and highlighted.

One could also get around this beneficial programming change by telling me to slow down a lot, wait a moment after my brand-new laptop with a dedicated video card and lots of RAM selects the word, and give it another second to make sure it ONLY selects the word. That would penalize me and slow me down.

OR the programmers could apply the standard Windows convention of Ctrl+Z to this operation and, if the whole paragraph's selected, I could just step it back one move, not lose all my previous highlighting, and re-select the single word.

Which is what I'm asking them to do.

Is this the right place to lodge that suggestion?

I can nearly reproduce this but not quite

What I see is:

if i select a word and then highlight the word after releasing my left-mouse button I can then repeat the process of selecting and highlighting as required
if i select a word and then highlight the word without releasing the left-mouse button then moving the mouse results in the entire paragraph being selected. If I then press my highlight shortcut key the entire paragraph is highlighted

Does this match what you are seeing or are you seeing something different?

And I'm not suggesting anything of that type - I'm simply trying to ensure that there are clear repeatability steps for developers to look at.

Having an "undo" capability for a range of operations is something which has been requested on different occasions - I don't recall seeing a generic Faithlife response on this.

But it seems like a bug to me (assuming my description above matches what you are seeing) in which case it would be better in the Logos 6 forum
