I'm still trying to get my head around notes....what's the best way to structure them....

I THINK that in V3...i just had one big note file...although I'm not sure....

What is the best strategy, and why?

I would say many files, and use the favourires to keep them in "order"'

    image

create your new folder and then drag notefile/clipping  onto the tree it becomes linked

    Dom,

thanks for the reply, but that's the thread that got me to thinking about this subject!

My Q is: is that better functionally, than just one big note file...and why?

    Bryan,

I use Onenote also, and they aren't anywhere near Onenote but in fairness...I think that Logos doesn't intend them to be. Logos said that they are like "notes in the margins of your bible" and that's it.

Onenote and clippings have more in common and IF LOGOS made clippings work like Onenote, then I'd be a happy camper!

well thats good to know. I am glad at least they have notes for margins of the bible. (found this the other day)

I guess I can use one note for puting notes together for my teachings, and logos for just regular passage notes.

have not heard of clipping, is this logos also??  Would be nice if it was like one note, I just want a place to take notes. I use alot of commentaries and exegetical resources when puting a teaching together. It is nice to put all your notes in order when you see something you like.. and put your own thoughts in sequence with the passage I am teaching on..

    Bryan,

it's "like" Onenote but it doesn't have certain functionality that makes OneNote great...if Logos would pattern clippings after Onenote...that would be a slam dunk...there'd by no need for anything else....

But again...I think, in Logo's mind....they aren't trying to spend their time replacing 3rd party products...

For Me, YES, but then I come from a  card fililing system generation and like things in their respective places, if I looking at a topic/theme for preparation, I dont want distracted by all the others...

I think of a notefile in same way you probably think of a one note page, and use the favourites list as the tabs for the book.

if you are just using the L3/L4 notes to link to your onenote page, then theres probably no need to have multiple files..

right click on tab in Onenote copy hyperlink

make note in L4 highlight the word to act as hyperlink

paste into the hyperlink box and hit enter, change note it should appear light blue...

Personally, when I'm preparing to teach or building exegetical notebooks I use OneNote. It allows me to structure my notes in a much more advantageous way.

I treat my Logos notes for "margin annotations," They are things I want to remember if I re-read the text. I have use the note highlight colors for different things. Yellow - of interest, Red - very important, Orange - disagree etc. In this scheme I tend to have one note file per Bible translation. Right now I have Commentary Notes and a Monograph notes files. Unless having large note files proves to be a performance reduction, I don't see a reason to clog up my file system with them.

In OneNote I frequently hyperlink my notebooks to the Logos books I am using. I find it's search function to be adequate for my needs. Since most of my notes are exetetically based I just have to navigate to the notebook I've made for that book of the Bible.

For me a Clippings file is very handy. I can dip into my library and read widely and selectively and then transition in to Note-taking and then delete my clippings file when I'm done augmenting my notebooks.

Kevin - I agree completely.  Back about a year ago, I found someone on the internet who had created a "template" notebook which had the following:

Two main notebooks.  One for the Old Testament and one for the New Testament.  Each notebook opened up a copy of the following for each book of the bible, etc.

Each had the following tabs (across the top)

    • Background
    • Chuck Smith Notes
    • Memory Verses
    • MP3 Resources
    • Notes
    • Online Resouces
    • Outline
    • Word Studies

In the Background tab are the following sheets (pages):

    • Authorship
    • Place of Writing
    • Date
    • Purpose
    • Overview
    • Theme

In the Notes tab there are pages for each chapter of that Book of the Bible.

I wish I still had the link for this file so I could include it as a reference.  I have added some things to mine which non-Methodists may not want included.  I will search for it later and try to find the link.

I would like to see how others are using OneNote for there biblical research.  Is there a place where Logos would let users upload their personal OneNote files for other to use if we have OneNote?  Or can it be done on this forum?
