Bug: Bible search finding text in study notes

I'm doing a bible search for the words "new heart" (no quotes) in my Top Bibles, New Testament. My top Bibles are ESV, NASB, NET, NIV, HCSB.

One of the results is John 3:25 in NET:  Now a dispute came about between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew concerning ceremonial washing. Note that neither of those words appear in the verse. However, they do appear (together) in study note 54: A new heart within (that is, being born from above) is what makes a person clean.

Am I correct in thinking that a bible search should only search the surface text of the Bible itself? If so, I believe this is a bug.

Thanks,

Donnie

To clarify: When you performed a "bible search," you got a hit on something from one of the footnotes which was not in the surface text of the translation. Right? I think that is a bug, but I am not sure. I would like to know the answer to that too! [:)]

Correct. It seems like a bug to me. I certainly don't see that in the desktop application.
