Logos6 UI Ruleset

I very much doubt I'll get an answer here. But so years from now, I can say 'well, I pointed that out years ago' ....

On the right-click menu, what is the 'secret sauce' for ordering the right-side column. Sometimes the morph is first, sometimes the root, sometimes the lemma, sometimes, etc, etc.

Maybe Logos5 was carefully mixed up too (along with maps, and so forth). But they had the row IDs viewable on the right (eg lemma, etc). Now I have to squint at the square root sign, etc and/or mouse the choices. That in itself is a waste of time, but quite a bit of the wasted time, there's no telling what will show up.

I understand Logos has UI rules. This one has to be quite interesting.

I was noticing this last week. I think the ordering is consistent, but what's included depends on the resource from which the menu was launched. For example, if you launch it from a word in the ESV, there will be an entry for the surface text (original language) above the lemma entry. But if you launch it from NA28 for the equivalent word, there won't be a surface text entry because you launched the menu for exactly that word. Other factors include the kind of resource (Bibles w/o interlinear won't have those entries at all, I don't think), whether you launched it for one word or multiple, etc.

Well Bradley, not to be terribly picky, but that was the curiousity of how the UI groups the items (which remains a mystery but so be it).

In the examples below, you'll notice you'd have to pretty much fix most? (all?) of them. I've been battling the screwy wagon wheels, square roots, etc (those are so cute). Little did I realize that you seem to mix them up. I thought, since you were so consistent (on mixing them up), that there might be a reason (e.g. in Libronix the user can re-sort the interlinear lines, so the right-click might match or something).

Just to avoid confusion on what I'm discussing, just concentrate on the morph, lemma, and root (basically why the resource is being used).

I thought maybe it might be Logos resources vs others, but the Logos resources also are each different. On the discourse on, the discourse is first even thought the greek was right-clicked.

Well, MJ, what you show is how I'd of coded it. But that's not how it shows in my examples above.

I'd assume for quick find/click, the ordering would be predictable (depending as Donnie mentioned, on what's available). I didn't know Newberry attached to TVM.

The 4 I pulled were just the first 4. Just looking at the OT ones, they're also varied (in addition to the Gottingen you fixed).

The order of tabs in the word info section matches the order that the data appears in the resource (on disk, not necessarily on screen). Some resources put it in the order root, lemma, morph, and others in the order lemma, root, morph, and so on. I'm using my way-back memory here, but IIRC sometimes this was intentional (say, the publisher's preference on the default ordering of interlinear lines) and sometimes not (say, coder convenience given the structure of the source files). We standardized the reference order of Logos-published resources at some point. Rick Brannan would know more about that, since he still works with these texts.

We could enforce a standardized order in the context menu code for all resources. AFAIK, we don't.

Eli, you're cracking me up (I like humor). So, it matches what's on the disk. I sort of suspected that (it was the only choice left).

Now, that's a UI ruleset if I ever saw one! Luckily it's your software (well, Bob and his family anyway). My software would never take what's coming off the disk and dump it into a right-click (since my user would get mighty PO'd .... that'd be me).
