Considering selling my i7 mac mini for a i5 macbook air. Just wanted to know if there was anyone out there running logos 5 on a macbook air. Does everything work OK? how about when hooked up to a display?
Thanks.
Plenty of users with MacBook Airs. Make sure to get enough ram and storage space since you can't upgrade later.
Also: You should not install L5... the free L6 engine will be available sometime in February.

Thanks for the advice. I am forever confused about L6. Do you have a link to read what your talking about here?

I am forever confused about L6.
If you have specific questions, feel free to ask. Let me give a general overview of how things work.
The Logos software engine is always free. Faithlife has the philosophy of providing free updates to the software, while charging for new resources and datasets. When "big" new updates come along, for a limited time Faithlife provides the new engine exclusively to those who purchase new base packages, cross grades, etc. Since the cost of developing the software is rolled up into resource purchases, it makes sense that Logos would encourage the purchase of new packages... but users don't have to do so. They just might have to wait a few months.
When a user does not make a new purchase, but simply updates the software engine, many new features are made available. Some new features work partially... and some new features won't work at all. You can, at any time, purchase a new base package or cross grade to gain new functionality.
One last thing: Faithlife doesn't do a good job of helping to explain the differences between a "base package" and the software "core engine." You may have purchased a base package while "L5" was being offered... but that has nothing to do with the software you are running. In other words, if you update the engine to L6 in a few weeks (you should) and are asked what version you are running... your answer should be "Logos 6.0b SR-2" (or whatever the case may be) and NOT "L5 Gold" (or whatever you own). Most of the time the later information isnt needed... Really we would only need to know that you have an "L5 Gold Base Package" when we are trying to figure out why a certain feature (which requires a purchase to function) doesn't work.

A friend is using an i7 MacBook Air with 8 GB Ram hooked up to an external 32" Monitor.
Apple offers refurbished Mac Models => http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac that has some MacBook Pro models with Retina Displays: $ 1,159 for 2.4 GHz i5 with 8 GB Ram and 256 GB SSD => http://store.apple.com/us/product/FE865LL/A/refurbished-133-inch-macbook-pro-24ghz-dual-core-intel-core-i5
Logos 6 is a 64 bit application that benefits from 8 GB Ram plus Solid State Disk (SSD).
Keep Smiling [:)]
I am running my Logos 6 Platinum Baptist Standard and Baptist packages on a Macbook Air and it works great.
Thank you to everyone for your help. Looks like if I order now I will get the new macbook just as the new core engine comes out.
Special thanks for explaining how base packages work. If I had known that information a few years ago I would have done things very differently.
Logos runs fine on my 2011 MBA (spec under signature).
Every blessing
Alan
On second thought, looks like a new one might be announced in march. Might be worth the wait.
It is always good to keep track of when products were released. Here is one good place: http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#MacBook_Air

Thanks. Yeah I think that Apple is getting a bit confused about how to move forward with the Macbook Air. This next update might make it too good, cannibalizing the entire laptop line of apple products. If the next one will have no moving parts and retina than I'm sold. Or at least I will be getting a better deal on the previous generation. I bought a mac mini thinking I would do most of my sermon writing at the office. First pastorate mistake. I think the best setup for me would be the macbook air with my 22" monitor at the office and be able to take it home or out of town with me. An iPad would be nice but doesn't seem to help me much past my preliminary reading. I have been using my kids 11" chromebook lately and really like the size.
I am running Logos 6 Diamond on a Macbook Air (i5, 128GB SSD, 4GB of RAM) and it's great. But I echo others' sentiments: if possible, wait for the 12" announcement.
If anyone cares to know....
I did end up getting a 13" Macbook Air 4gb ram 256mb ssd. (12 hr battery, wow!)
Yes i know they are expected to be refreshed very soon but I just couldn't wait any longer. mac mini is going on eBay tomorrow. Turns out it still resells for about what I paid since the newest refresh isn't upgradable. nice.
Logos works fine. Thanks for your help in the forums.
I care! Thank you for sharing.
And, if you have more time please tell us how fast it indexes Logos, open/close windows/tabs, opens the home page, and runs searches. I am thinking of getting a Mac book Air.
I am very happy you got a computer that will work well for you. I honestly think you will not regret your purchase. Apple products are pricey but extremely well built. I hope you get many years of use from it.

Thanks. This is my second mac laptop. I got a macbook unibody in 2008. Abused it through college, traveling and kids homeschool. still managed to sell it for parts on eBay. Strange not hearing the roar of the hard drive spinning. Even the fan is very quiet on this new MBA.
Logos is running like a champ. I wouldn't consider myself a power user so I'm not sure how much it can really handle. Not a single crash so far. Now on to saving for an iPad......
Is anyone using an 11" macbook air? Can you post some screen shots of Logos on there? I'd love to wait for the upgrade to the rumored macbook air retina, but we're getting ready to move overseas and need the laptop before the move. I'm debating between the highly mobile 11" MBAir or the slightly less mobile but much better screen 13" MBPro.
I'd go to the apple store to try out an 11", but pretty sure I'm not allowed to install the Logos system on their display machines.
As I have stated, I love my new macbook air 13". The 12 hour battery really sells it for me. I charge it at night, leave the power cable at home and use it all day with no need to charge. I have heard the fan turn on once since I got it (during indexing of finder and logos). I thought I would use it clamshell with my big monitor but haven't really bothered with it. Looking at it side by side with the MBP retina I couldn't see a much of a difference between the screens. I think this may be due to the fact that a laptop screen sits further from your eyes than a tablet. Therefore the text blur isn't as noticeable as a tablet or smart phone. (try looking at your hdtv close up and then far away. Similar effect.) Retina would make this mba better but i wouldn't trade the battery and portability to get it. Logos runs great. Just give it time to index then your all set.
Have a good trip.
Aaron,
Here are some screenshots from an 11" Macbook Air. I love it. For me, it's worth the battery life. And with the SSD, Logos 6 runs great.
