Bug?: search results in "by resource" view: titles disappear as resources are expanded

Hello, God bless you all: I am running L6 from a mac that has Yosemite OS. When I search i usually use "by resource" view.

As I expand the resource to see the hits, the titles of the resources below the expanded one, start to disappear until after expanding some other resources, the titles below completely disappear.

Has anyone using mac had the same problem, does anybody know the possible cause, and how to solve this.

Thanks for any orientation on this.

I'm glad you included the screenshot, because from the textual description only, I thought you meant that fewer titles showed below the expanded ones, until there was room for no more, and I thought this was normal and expected behavior.

But the image you attached, showing that lines of text get partially truncated horizontally, makes it clear that this is a bug.

I've never seen it before on Windows, so some Mac user will need to weigh in on this.

Make sure you're running the latest version of Logos; I think this was already fixed in version 6.0a.

Pardon my ignorance, but I do not find the update command in the menus, maybe I am looking for it in the wrong place, can you indicate where to look for the update L6 button.

Hi Hamilton, there is no menu command for updating (perhaps there should be!)

Normally it happens automatically if you don't have "Automatically Download Updates" set to "No" in Tools > Program Settings.

But you can force it by typing "update now" in the Logos command bar.

That will check to see if an update is available and will give you a notification if there is one (a little yellow triangle in the upper right of the menu bar) and you'll still have to confirm it (click on the notification icon and then click on "Click here to download updates"), then you'll be prompted to restart Logos by another notification icon.

Thank you Ms. Perera for the info. I do have some GB of pending downloads that I have not been able to actually download, due to some problem with the Yosemite OS. Most likely the update to the new L6 version is there.

It seems that people with Yosemite OS needs to connect to a high speed ethernet cable to be able to download all. I have not been able to do that.

On another note:

Sorry to ask, I noticed that in your profile you list yourself as of Mennonite tradition. Can you recommend to me a book that would simply and clearly overview that tradition's theology, doctrinal posture, and the like, I do not think I know much about it.

It would be ideal if you can recommend one that is available in Logos software.

I am presently studying a bit about different traditions to see what the Holy Spirit has shown, taught and shared to that particular tradition .

If you are still having problems with Yosemite and downloading you might try the following

1. Go to  - About this Mac - Software update and make sure you are using the latest version of OS X (should be) 10.10.2

2 Go to your Order summary page on the Logos web page and download the latest version of Logos 6 (should be) 6.0b SR2

This should solve the download problem and allow you to get your resources downloaded and indexed.

In Logos, there isn't much, because the Mennonite/Anabaptist resources focus on the historical writings of the tradition, and it has morphed somewhat in the present. However Anabaptism in Outline would be a good starting place. In particular, the editor's introductions to each section of primary sources give good explanations of the theology.

I should note that "Anabaptism" is the larger tradition of which Mennonites are one stream. The word Anabaptist was originally a pejorative epithet used by opponents, who claimed that these people were "re-baptizers" which is what the word anabaptist literally means (they believed in adult/believer's baptism, so they would rebaptize believers who had been baptized as infants in the Catholic church). But eventually the Anabaptists took on that name with pride.

Also, as with most denominations, today there is a great breadth within the Mennonite name worldwide. I attend a rather unique church that is a member of two main conferences in Canada: both the mainline/liberal Mennonite Church Canada and the conservative/evangelical Mennonite Brethren. Also we are a small, urban, largely commuter church, made up of a very high percentage of highly educated people (college professors, doctors, lawyers, a number of others with PhDs) with a nearby transdenominational theological college that many of our members take advantage of for public lectures. We're also very ecumenically minded, and borrow worship elements from Anglican and other traditions. And we have guests preachers from all over the theological map (a Roman Catholic woman priest, a rabbi, etc.). So we're hardly the stereotypical uneducated rural Mennonites whose women wear head coverings that you might have heard of.

I downloaded the LogosMac.dmg from my order history, but I am afraid of installing it as I do not want to have to go through all the download the whole of resources again, that takes forever and wait for the indexing.

Is there a file that can be just downloaded to update L6 version without reinstalling?

Thanks for the information, remember I am from Panama, and until I saw your profile, I did not even know there was a Mennonite tradition other than some reference to some missionaries that came with the slave ships to witness the gospel to the men and women transported as slaves, although i am not sure if they are the same.

Looking up a little bit in internet, it shows that most Mennonites are deep into pacifism, (Just like Christ wants us to be), I noticed there is a Logos collection from Mr. John H. Yoder. He wrote extensively about pacifism, and if I am not mistaken he graduated from Mennonite seminary.

Would you recommend getting mr. Yoder's collection?

I do have the book you recommend Anabaptism in outline, and I will take a look at it. I noticed that the book is also included in the baptist studies collection, are there ties between Mennonites and Baptists?

A pastor and teacher was talking about culture of peace vs culture of war. It seems that some countries live and thrive in a culture that seems to exalt either violence or peace.

In our case the teacher contrasted Costa Rica vs Rep. of Panama:

Costa Ricans are really peaceful (most), really know how to treat people well, including tourists.
On the other hand Panamanians are more rude, they are often foul spoken, and raise their voice quickly in an argument.

We were trying to study the reason for this. Maybe is something about education, both informal and formal, other people said that Panama was more belligerent because of the historical influence U.S. armed forces had here when they were here.

Looking up information, I found that a historian suggests that most people that descend from Japheth are warrior like.

I found the topic very interesting, and did notice that in Panama we have the highest percent of world boxing champs when compared to the amount of total population.

Now here in Panama, many people are getting into the Ultimate Fighting Champion deal, where bouts are fought in an octagon and the style is a mix of stand up fighting and grappling / wrestling.

Researching a bit, I found that a Pastor said that most men of God were warrior like: Moses was good at war (learned in Egypt), David was number one warrior, Joshua, etc, you name it.

Once Jesus came, he was the exception, He brought the new Law of Love. And even so, some claim that He did a good show of physical prowess when cleaning the Temple of unscrupulous merchants.

The U.S. has always been considered one of the foremost battle ready cultured nation. And part was to assure freedom, which seems related to have the brave well trained to protect that freedom.

When we studied about Islam, they have the concept of small and big Jihad (holy war): the big one was to battle inwardly against our bad nature, to try to be better and to learn to submit better to Allah.

The small Jihad was against the infidel outside their creed.

All of this made me think about how we in the West could really achieve a higher level of spiritual maturity if we could only focus in the inner war and from my perspective in the spiritual war as explained by Paul in Ephesians 6:10 - 20.

In the OT, Yahweh was a God of War, if that is the case, maybe we are a likeness to that and that is why many have that warrior disposition.

So to me the challenge is to focus that high drive into productive efforts (spiritual development, and spiritual warfare) where better fruit could be obtained.

Note that in Revelation, Jesus Christ comes as a warrior in a white horse to Earth, and comes with His saints that are right there with Him as if in an Army (in theory us the believers right there to fight the antichrist and his legions).

Many of this is baffling, but I wanted to share because when researching more about a culture of peace, I found wonderful information about a different way of living, but at the same time, living in a fallen Earth, I am realist enough to know you cannot expect clean and fair play from other less moral and ethical humans. Much less from those that consider us infidel deserving death by low blow means (i.e. terrorism).

I would like to read your opinions.

If you use the link it will only reinstall (update the engine) to the latest version. It will not (should not) affect your existing library other than to facilitate downloading resources that you do not have yet.

Hi Hamilton, I didn't remember you were from Panama. I don't recall seeing that anywhere before. My cousin lives in Panama; she is the co-owner/manager of Bocas Bookstore in Bocas del Toro. Small world!

Yes, pacifism is one of the defining characteristics of Mennonites, deeply embedded in their history. They refused to enlist in the military, they turned the other cheek when persecuted for their faith, and many of the early founding fathers were martyred without putting up any resistance. There's a famous story (illustrated by an equally famous woodcut) of Dirk Willems who was arrested for his faith, escaped from prison, and was pursued by a guard across a frozen body of water; when his pursuer broke through the ice and began to sink, Dirk turned around and rescued him. But then the ungrateful guard recaptured Dirk and took him back to prison, where he was held until he was executed by being burned at the stake.

I noticed there is a Logos collection from Mr. John H. Yoder. He wrote extensively about pacifism, and if I am not mistaken he graduated from Mennonite seminary.

There are actually two collections by Yoder, one that is released already (John Howard Yoder Collection (12 vols.)), and one that is still in pre-pub (Select Works of John Howard Yoder (3 vols.)). The former would probably be overkill for just familiarizing yourself with his work. I haven't actually read any of them, but a quick look at the description makes me think He Came Preaching Peace might be a good overview of Yoder's peace theology, and you can buy that as a stand-alone without the whole collection.

Another very good biblical defense of peace theology (which addresses the scriptural texts that opponents of peace theology use to critique it) is Biblical Non-Resistance from the Historic Anabaptist Perspective by Gary Staats. Unfortunately it is only available as part of a larger collection at this time. Faithlife does eventually split up collections, but in the meantime, if you don't want to wait, and don't want to buy the whole collection, the author did give me permission to distribute the Personal Book of this which I made, even though it's still under copyright. I've shared it on the Files forum, though I suppose I should take it down once this bundle is split up and that book is available on its own.

Now you have the latest version of OS and Logos I hope your original problem been solved?

You might like to bear in mind that attachments from OS X are best saved in PNG form and attached using the paper clip in the tool bar above.

Using Cmd+Shift+4 allows you to clip an appropriate section of the screen and will save the screenshot in PNG form on your desktop by default.

This screenshot can then be attached to the post and then deleted.

It means that readers can see your screenshot without actually storing it on their computer.

It is a small world, I have not been to Bocas in a while, but I hear that the tourist sector is growing there and is very nice. Many personalities from the entertainment industry (U.S) supposedly go there because of the secluded nature, and the rainforest type setting. People can go there without being hassled by paparazzies.

I already ordered the 3 vol. collection, I am seriously thinking of getting the 12 vol. I will also get into my budget the resource you recommended by Gary Staats, I think it will be worthed to get the whole collection.

I am interested much about violence and self defence, as I was a martial artist for many years, and the buddhist tradition of the Shaolin monks prohibited killing, so they developed skills with weapons to a degree that they could inflict non-lethal damage to opponents, thus neutralizing the threat, without causing undue damage .

I am also a member of a cooperative, and while studying a little bit of anthropology, I realized that some of the social problems have to do with structural evil (a different type of violence). I am curious to know the Christian responsibility about structural evil, should we resist it, how to try to change it, and the like.

Scandinavia has some of the highest quality of life there is, close to 40% of their GNP comes from cooperatives. Cooperativism has been called by them the middle way (between the wild unregulated capitalism and socialism), when done right, the result is the collective owning of the means of production that allow for the surplus generated to be distributed more evenly.
