Adding a note from commentary to ESV

I hope I can explain this clearly -

I am wondering what the procedure is to add a note from a commentary to a specific verse on my ESV Bible, so I can see this note from the commentary and click on the note and have it take me to the specific section of the commentary?

I tried to add a note to the specific verse by copying/pasting the commentary note, but this does not allow me to automatically open the commentary inside the note.

You can add multiple anchors to a note file. If you add a note to the passage in your ESV, then if you highlight the text you want in the commentary, then in the note file choose 'Add Anchor' and click the 'Selected Text' radio button, this will allow you to open the commentary from the note file.

That feature is missing. You can get around it by taking an extra step when creating the note. After you have pasted the contents of the commentary into the note file, go back to the commentary and with the section (or even the first word) highlighted, hit CRTL-ALT-C (in Windows) to copy the link location. Now return to the note, highlight all or just the first word of the text and create a link using the link icon.

You'll need to SHIFT-(left click) on the note icon in the text to open the note. You can then click on the link you created to get to the commentary.

One of the additions to Notes in the future will be automatic generation of links back to the resource you copied from, so it will save that extra step.

If I understand what you are trying to do correctly; I would make the note in my bible, then select the article or portion of the article you want in your desired commentary. Then simply add the selected text as an anchor in the original note. This will give a copy of the selected text in your note, and it will provide a link to the commentary from the note.

Thanks brother Mark. That is helpful. While I have you, I am curious if you have a suggestion for this: I believe this new note system will finally allow me to use it on a consistent basis. But I am still learning. I am wondering what is the best way to "highlight" sections of Scripture. Meaning, I notice when I make a highlight, this highlight shows up in various sections of the Notes file (highlights and the section relating to the specific book). When I highlight something, I really only want to highlight it, not create a specific note under the book to reference later.

Is there a way to do this? I feel like after going through a book and making all my highlights, I will have hundreds of these.

I am wondering what is the best way to "highlight" sections of Scripture. Meaning, I notice when I make a highlight, this highlight shows up in various sections of the Notes file (highlights and the section relating to the specific book). When I highlight something, I really only want to highlight it, not create a specific note under the book to reference later.

You have to be careful when you highlight to be sure no note file is selected in the Notes tool:

Note that there is no text in the boxed in area.

Now when you highlight it will just go into the large Notes database and not into a specific note file.
