Has anyone deleted 8 and reinstalled 7- if so what issues did you encounter.
If you have the 7 exe install file could you share it- I cannot find mine in downloads.

There'll be no issues — except you may find you still have access to the new notes tool in L7 (because you have a licence for it with your L8 purchase). If so, enter set prefer notes tool to no in the command bar.
I did. During the Private Beta I ran Logos 8 and Verbum 7 in parallel. Nearing the Go-Live date, the Verbum 7 beta installation downloaded the upgrade to version 8 and updated to 8. I uninstalled it and redownloaded Verbum 7 from an engine-link.
Issues: None. I run both in parallel installations - mainly to help users in the forum who are stuck with an L7 issue, and to have a reference for discussions in the L8 beta forum when people talk about bringing back a certain feature and my memory is too unreliable to tell how it was back then in L7.
Nuisances: Subsequent to install of 7, download & index of my whole library (I didn't use the methods for duplicating the library locally since possibly books etc. from my L8 install would have been non-working on 7). I then turned automatic updates off and set update channel to manual - otherwise it would migrate automatically to 8 again. To avoid that and have full update, one could possibly give back to CS the L8 license(s).
Experiences: My Verbum 7 is partly synced (such as the Notes, but also library metadata and layouts), partly stuck in time, with lots of helpful books I acquired with L8 Base packages not automatically syncing through (as well as program updates to Logos/Verbum 7, should FL release such). I could bring books over from my parallel L8 installation by using the scan command - as long as they don't use L8-specifics - this is because I run both in parallel. Someone with only a Logos 7 install would not have this ability (but in case of license return wouldn't need it).
Why I would not recommend this: 7 is going the way of the Dodo, 8 is the future. Early in 2019 the Logos 8 engine will be free, and a large majority of users will switch over (faster and snappier behavior, cool new features) and 7 will remain for some time in maintenance mode. But books will be produced for L8, forum discussions will assume L8 and those MVPs like me who are still running 7 will delete or upgrade their installs - which then gives me the chance to see Logos and Verbum, run stable and beta, having two different language UIs visible - and thus forum support for 7 will weaken. L8 on the other hand will grow and continue to bring some of the old and new stuff that didn't make the production release.
If have adequate storage, an alternative idea is installing Verbum 7 so can use Verbum 7 and Logos 8 at the same time (OR Verbum 8 and Logos 7).

Currently have Logos 8 & Logos 7 on different computers with my purchased library with Verbum 7 with my demonstration library (order total of $ 0.00). After Faithlife drops support for Logos 7 & Verbum 7, plan to migrate all my installations to 8 (may migrate sooner with 8 free release early next year).

Logos 8 is here to stay, and Logos 7 will be unsupported “soon” (no, I'm not giving a date, but it will be in 2019), just like Logos 6 and 5 and 4 before it. You won't be able to get support for Logos 7, it may not work correctly on the latest versions of Windows 10 or macOS, it won't read the latest books, it won't get any more bug fixes, etc.
Logos 8 is the future, and now is the time to identify specific problems you're having so they can be fixed in 8.1, 8.2, etc. Ignoring Logos 8 and sticking with Logos 7 is not a viable long-term solution.

Don't sweat this too much. I use L3 every day because FL doesn't care about what I need to be able to upgrade to the latest version...and I get by. I run L7, but mostly just to access books I don't have in L3. There are a few searches I do in L7, but most of my study in in L3. It's scary, since I am depending on my old system to not give up the ghost. But everything's okay right now.

Yeah, the sky could fall, but L3 isn't supposed to work on Win10 and yet IT DOES...albeit, with a few annoying issues. It's much slower on my newer system (go figure). The point is, you can get by. You said you've got about $50K dumped in Logos. Same here...don't expect that to mean much, though. Like I said, they simply don't care if you are a top tier customer. I was set to move on the Ultimate package, but I saw a video that showed notes in action, and yeah...they still don't do what I need, and they never will. Am I shocked that a good customer is completely dissed and ignored? Yeah, actually I am. But I've had a decade of being ignored to get used to it, and besides being permanently cranky, as long as L3 works for me, I'm okay.

L8 where to start-
don't like notes- so I don't use them- the only thing that appears in them from my use is "highlights"
Workflow- very basic have no use for them- even after experimenting with them
Doc's- the only thing there is my diagrams- so their safe for the time being
Appearance- do not like the new ui- still having to adjust the look of every resource some appear smaller, others ok- but having to set scaling at 90/ 110 still doesn't eliminate that issue.
Highlights still no way to delete a highlight pallet and everywhere it has been applied without spending hours tracking down all the locations
"others" why is this shows in my program under notes- I don't want to see others- really
Home page- explore section- is what I don't want- this should have been in the first release to get rid of the unwanted ad's and other unnecessary items
Honestly- L8 has not impressed me all that much other than it is responding faster
Why do you want to go back? I asked the same question just now. Actually I asked if I could run both as separate programs. The answer was no.
Correct, L5 automatically overwrites L4...L6 overwrites L4 & L5...L7 overwrites L4, L5, & L6...and L8 overwrites L4-7...BUT!!!...
L3, as Graham pointed out above, was a completely different engine, so you CAN run L3 with whatever newer version you might have, side-by-side with no conflict or problem. They actually work pretty well together. Still, I would prefer that L3's unique features could be included with the current version. My life would be much simpler and less worrisome. As it is, I'm left being a squeaky wheel that's just squeaking louder and more frequently.

I do feel that you are still missing the point about the release of 8, I think most of those with issues accept that 8 is the future and I think that most of us will concede that there have been some improvements in the UI. 8 may well be the best release of Logos ever, it is also one that for me demonstrates that Faithlife still need to learn about good customer communications.
What was clearly wrong with the release (IMHO) and what has been clearly highlighted in the response to many of the queries here is that 8 was released with a significant number of issues that would be disruptive to long term (loyal) users. All of the issues that I hit were classified here as "known issues" but the point that is still being ignored is that they were "unknown issues" for those of us who upgraded. I honestly believe that your approach to the release and the non communication of the known issues showed a total disregard for the long term users who have a significant financial investment in your products.
Bottom line here is that many if not all of the specific problems were known before 8 was released this is not information that we need to provide to you it is detail that you need to communicate to us with a clear set of priorities and delivery dates.
We needed to be told before upgrading that there were known issues, we needed to know what they were and we needed some guidance on when upgrading from 7 to 8 would be a realistic or sensible option. Auto update on day one was not a good experience for me.

So here it is again. How can we run any version of 7 (whether Logos or Verbum), download all our resources and yet not have it automatically update to version 8? I have not seen that question answered anywhere.

This should do. Note the following:

This may not apply to you if you don't buy many books after setting up the parallel version.

Ok, so I guess you did say it, but I didn't hear it. Sorry. Let me see if I'm understanding correctly:
1. When you install 7 anew, you get whatever resources you currently own but it will not update to version 8 with auto update off.
2. There is no way after this initial point to download "resources only" without getting engine 8 also.
3. If you have another installation of L8, you can get your newer purchases from it using the scan command.

That's my understanding and experience. Please understand that we are talking about an unsupported, undocumented and un-recommended way of operating the software.
This is my understanding - for practical purposes at least. "No way" is very strong - there possibly could be a way, but I don't know how to do it.
This should work based on my overall experience and my understanding of how Logos works - and that's how I got (the other direction) my Logos 7 PBBs into the Logos 8 beta I ran in parallel. I have not yet confirmed this by trying it.
I found one additional aspect today:
There may be more of such quirks. Remember the two installations synchronize, so changes to priorization, to layouts and a number of other things will give ample opportunity to challenge one of the versions with understanding data that is was not programmed for.
Thanks Mick. I finally got it to work. In case anyone else is interested, here is a step by step guide of what worked for me:
How to run Verbum 7 alongside Logos 8: A Step-by-Step Guide
This could also be used in reverse (Logos 7 & Verbum 8).
1. Download Verbum 7 (or Logos 7) here.
2. Run the installer and choose a new location.
3. Uncheck "Automatically download updates."
4. I don't know if it makes a difference whether or not you skip "Synchronizing."
5. After this, I had nothing in my library, zero books.
6. You will see "Updates are available." Do not click this, as it will migrate you to version 8.
7. Instead, use the scan command to read your Logos 8 installation. For me, it was "scan E:\Programs\Logos" It will seem like nothing is going on, but just be patient.
8. While that is running, turn off automatic updates: Tools/Program Settings/Internet/Automatically Download Updates = NO.
9. Type this into the command box: "set update channel to manual"
10. If you buy new books, download them in Logos 8 and then rescan them in Verbum 7, or use the method Andrew mentions below.

If your update channel is set to a channel name that doesn't exist (like "manual"), then you won't ever get any application updates, which means you can turn automatically download updates back on and receive resource updates without having to scan.
Before you do that though, you may want to find the "Data\<random>\UpdateManager\" folder and delete that to ensure that any previously detected Logos 8 update doesn't get downloaded and installed.
