In the description it states the following:
”This comprehensive new edition of the leading book on cults will equip you--no matter your background--to understand and use biblical truth to counter false religions, including many that masquerade as mainstream Christianity.”
So how do we know the author is not one of those who masquerades himself as a Christian but he’s really not a real Christian? It seems like a very presumptuous statement on his part. Not only presumptuous but a bit contradictory when it says that “no matter your background” — what background: a false religion background who wants to study other false religious backgrounds?
Maybe more information and sample pages will help this work more. 👍😁👌

I don't know what the second edition will bring, but the first edition looks reasonable. It's not a Protestant talking down on RCs or an Arminian saying that Calvinism is a cult...
Also, the first edition was edited by Ravi Zacharias, so that will probably give you a general understanding of its perspective.
Perhaps the one that might stoke discussion is the appendix section called "The Puzzle of SDA"--especially since FL sells SDA resources.

This book is an absolute must have! I have the 2003 Edition with Ravi Zacharias as the General Editor. It is an amazing piece of work by Walter Martin. Chapter 4 on "Jehovah's Witnesses" is off the chains!

This book has quite a colorful history, with a retracted edition (Hank Hanegraaf as editor, I think?), a lawsuit or two, a battle over publisher's rights, and some more interesting stuff. It's been long enough my memory isn't totally clear, so I don't have a lot of detail.
All that said, Martin was a solid source for cult material back before there was much available. I don't know much about the newer editions or who's been involved (Martin died in 1989), but there will likely be much value in the book.

Never mind. It is on the Ebooks website and the order link only connects to the Faithlife website. It would be nice if the two websites were integrated. I sometimes forget.

If you are in the UK don't bother - it is not for sale for us.
How do Amazon.com manage to arrange to get contract permission to sell books such as that as long as you only want to buy one copy and other sellers are refused by the publishers?0 -
