Using my Library as a Cross Reference Tool?

Hello everyone, Merry Christmas!

I would like to use my own library as a cross reference tool (Something like TSK). Is there a way to do this?

I've tried searching something like this: '<myrandombiblereference> NEAR <Gen-Rev>' but I have no way to sort the results by verse (the NEAR command also isn't quite ideal).

I would like to sort the results by the Bible reference with the most hits. For example: a Bible reference, say Hebrews 7:17 would have results filtered by verse with the most hits, say something like: Psalm 110 - 100 results, Hebrews 7:15 - 80 results, Hebrews 7:21 - 50 results etc.

Also the NEAR command seems a bit arbitrary, and maybe a command that would limit results to resources tagged with Bible references (Bibles, Commentaries, Bible Notes etc.) would be better, but I forget how to do this if it's something thats possible.

Try <myrandombiblereference> WITHIN {Milestone <Gen-Rev>}. You could limit the range to a collection of Bibles, Commentaries, Notes or other versified resources. References in Bibles would be cross-references in footnotes

You have to perform a Basic Search for this query, so results will be arranged by resource.

If I understood you well...

So my understanding is that you want the Bible to be its own interpreter.

You could make a collection of topical resources like: where to find it in the Bible, find it fast in the Bible, Dictionary of Bible themes, etc.

You could just type "topical" (without the quotation marks) in the Library to see what you have. Then you can choose what you want for a topical collection.

Then just do a search for that verse that you are studying to see what the resources come up with.

You could even add concordances, Thompson chain reference, Strong's, etc. You could also add to the collection Bibles that have x-ref.

Not sure if the collection can be placed in "quoted by" so you can have it handy.

In Logos 8, this is no longer necessary: simply type the name of the section of a guide you want to use in the search box and it will appear on its own. You can pin if you use it often.

That's what I was missing! Sounds like the results based on Bible reference hits isn't possible. I was contemplating if I could make the results a passage list to work around this, but I don't think that would duplicate the same passage more than once.

This sounds like something I would like to do in my searches. When you say "simply type the name of the section guide you want in the search box" are you saying I should type it in the Basic Search search box? If you could show me an example that would be most helpful. So for example if I wanted to find all bible reference to, say, Mathew 5:3-12 how would I set up the search for the Catholic Topical Index section of the Passage Guide?

You can run the Concordance on books but not on collections. In any case, running it on an entire library would probably take a very long time (unless your library is really small) and cause Logos to crash.

If you want to find out what your library has on a specific reference, you can also use the Cited By tool.
