2 Times working with a Note... Two Times Windows Needs to Close Logos

Everything was working fine until I uploaded the latest version and tried to work with a Note. Has anyone else had the same problem? I was playing with the Link field when it decided to go south.

Also, when I start my program the CPU goes nuts, and reaches 100% for about 3 seconds... I'm thinking it's because I have a couple of searches that it tries to redo.

This is a great product, but I think it's still unstable, even with my new monster HP i7 with a 1Gig

Frustrating. I've been using Notes a lot for the last couple of days and running 4.0b and haven't had the problem that you are referencing. Hope you get it figured out. Your configuration is close to mine.

I hope so too, though I just opened another note and had it crash... but I'm getting even more frustrated because I now see that I have proof that I had Calvins' commentary on my system before I upgraded to the new computer (different conversation). I got nowhere with either a sales person or a tech support person when I called on this last week. I'm a stroke surviver, and when talking in a conversation that isn't going anywhere my words don't come out as they did a few years ago. This is really frustrating to see that I had something in Logos 4 before, and now it isn't there.

Dear Logos I felt like I was asking for something unrealistic when I called, when all I wanted was to get back what I once had... If you look at my note above you will see that I did in fact have Calvin's Commentary (as far as I can remember I've always had this, even though I think it originated with Galaxy, though I can't locate the disk). It's a little scary to think that everything I own with this software now on ver 4 was in your care, and since upgrading and installing to a new computer I'm missing a resource that I used constantly. At least with my actual physical books, if I lose them, I have myself to blame.

There are two issues here:

1. Your problem with note files causing crashes. It might help to give us a more step-by-step outline of what leads to the crash.

2. Your lost Calvin's Commentary. It seems that Logos does not have a copy of this file on their servers. If you still have your old computer the best thing might be to try to copy the file over to a folder on your new computer (say C:\Temp) and then go into Logos 4 and type Scan c:\Temp in the Command Bar, hit Enter, then close and reopen Logs to activate the command. It should discover the file and bring it into Logos.

If you don't have that file you may have to contact Galaxie software directly and ask them to send it to you or put it on their ftp site.

Hi Mark, the frustrating thing is that I had everything on Logos 4 before I made the switch to the new computer, as you can see, the note I created was with Logos 4, and not v3, so ver 4 should have had everything it needed, because it was active/working in V4 on the old computer. Some how, even though I tried to have all the files come over with Window 7's transfer utility, I didn't get everything that was in the Libronix folder (just peeked at it, and it isn't complete).

I guess I'll have to follow Dave's instructions on putting everything on my 4 GBSanDisk Cruzer and resurrect my old PC. Like I said in my original post, they have a great piece of software, but they also have a ways to go to make it more user friendly and less frustrating. Still my question is this, if I had everything on Logos 4 while on my old PC (where the Note was created), what happened when I installed it on my new PC... it should have been on their server! Now looking at my other crash, it too has a "unavailable Source", but when I hover the mouse over it, it says it's from WTJ40:1, but when I click on the link it crashes. This note also was created on my old PC, yet in version 4. Now when I wanted to open the Library to check if I had the resource, it crashed again... must have been because I had that Note open on my desktop.

That's enough frustration for one evening, thanks for you time.

Actually your license is on the server. I can't tell whether it lists the missing resources, but I'll bet it does. I think that the problem is that Logos does not have the old Galaxie Calvin's Commentary on their server. That means Logos 4 cannot download the file. You had it on your old computer because it was there from Logos 3 days. Logos scans the Logos 3 resource folder when it looks for resources to bring in. Again, I think the reason it isn't on your new computer is because Logos doesn't have the file on their server. Your new computer looked to download it from Logos but couldn't find it.

I can't be certain about this. I don't even know the file name for the resource, but I can't find anyhting on the Logos ftp site for Logos 3 resources that looks like what you are missing. If I could, we could have you download it and try to scan it into 4.0.

Right you are, only thing is that I, the Logos User, thought everything that L3 had was on their server for L4. Must not have read the fine print [:D].

I'm actaully thinking about adding my old PC as a networked item with my new system. There are other items non-Logos related that didn't come-over as I would have liked them to appear in my Windows 7 computer, there's only so much that the USB transfer was able to do. The next thing to do is to buy a good backup drive to store my valuable items, it's the only logical thing to do, and I should have known better when I made the switch.

Oh, one other thing, I think I'm getting close to spending too much time on these forums, the whole purpose is to be in God's Word, isn't it?[*-)]... or is this similar, yet different? Great resource for Logos that I'm studying is Jerry Bridges' "Respectable Sins:Confronting The Sins We Tolerate" I was flirting with impatience! [;)]

Thanks to Logos' Craig on the support staff, I have my Calvin Commentaries working, I tried the scan function and it did something, but I'm not sure what it picked up, however it wasn't my commentaries... I needed them to help me with that!

The crashing doesn't happen now either, even though the Note will probably need to get trashed/reworked, it still says I don't have the resource, same with the one that was from a note on the Westminster Journals.

I've been a customer for many years (maybe 15 years?, before version 2), and though I might get frustrated, I've always worked with Logos to find a way toward a solution. I can't say that about most software companies, if they're even in business a few years after you have their software.
