I'd like to see a collection on the theology of peace and reconciliation (of interest to any in the peace churches: Mennonites, Quakers, etc. and really anyone these days who is looking to find out about alternatives to "just war" theology -- which I think leads to the other meaning of just war, that is "nothing but war"). Some books I might include in such a collection would be:

  • Exclusion and Embrace: A Theological Exploration of Identity, Otherness, and Reconciliation (Miroslav Volf)
  • The End of Memory: Remembering Rightly in a Violent World (Miroslav Volf)
  • Free of Charge: Giving and Forgiving in a Culture Stripped of Grace (Miroslav Volf)
  • Embodying Forgiveness: A Theological Analysis (L. Gregory Jones)
  • The Original Revolution: Essays on Christian Pacifism (John Howard Yoder)
  • The Politics of Jesus (John Howard Yoder)
  • He Came Preaching Peace (John Howard Yoder)
  • Christian Attitudes to War, Peace, and Revolution (John Howard Yoder)
  • Christian Attitudes toward War and Peace: A Historical Survey and Critical Re-evaluation (Roland H. Bainton)
  • War: Four Christian Views (Robert G. Clouse)
  • Powers, Weakness, and the Tabernacling of God (Marva Dawn)
  • Living Toward a Vision : Biblical Reflections on Shalom (Walter Brueggemann)
  • Peace (Understanding Biblical Themes series) (Walter Brueggemann)
  • Covenant of Peace: The Missing Peace in New Testament Theology and Ethics (Willard M. Swartley)
  • A Peace Reader: Essential Readings on War, Justice, Non-Violence and World Order (Joseph J. Fahey & Richard Armstrong, eds.)
  • Yahweh Is a Warrior: The Theology of Warfare in Ancient Israel (Christian Peace Shelf) (Millard Lind)
  • It Is Not Lawful for Me to Fight: Early Christian Attitudes Toward War, Violence, and the State (Christian Peace Shelf) (Jean-Michel Hornus)

Perhaps also some of the books in the bibliography at the Peace Theology website:

EDIT: Also, here are some reference works in peace theology studies:

EDIT again: here are some more:

  • The Peaceable Kingdom: A Primer In Christian Ethics (Stanley Hauerwas)
  • Christian Peacemaking and International Conflict: A Realist Pacifist Perspective (Duane K. Friesen)
  • A Declaration on Peace (John Howard Yoder)
  • The Journey Toward Reconciliation (John Paul Lederach)
  • Two Kingdoms, Two Loyalties: Mennonite Pacifism in Modern America (Perry Bush)
