I think this is probably a baby question but i don't know. How do I get 2 different passages to appear on "multiple resources display" for when I want to compare cross references?

The "multiple resources display" is intended to have multiple translations side by side in tandem. It is not intended to compare cross references. You should open another instance of your bible in another pane.
If you have more questions, this thread will likely be moved to the appropriate forum. Are you using L8?
How do I get 2 different passages to appear
if you right-click on the translation in your library viewer you can open a 2nd, 3rd, 4th pane in the same translation.
Easier yet, simply hold Cmd/Ctrl while you drag the tab of your already open translation. This will duplicate that tab to wherever you drag it.
Tamara, if you could provide a bit more detail of exactly what you'd like to accomplish, we may be able to provide clearer and better instructions. Depending on what you want to do, Multi-view Resource might factor in, as may Linksets, Send Hyperlinks Here, etc.
